The front to rear weight ratio on this tractor will be much better for 2wd work than a 4wd tractor in 2wd.

4wd spoils us. :)

...

Wow, that is an excellent point I forgot about. All of us forgot about it but it is true.

Is there a difference in the build of a 2wd tractor from the 4wd? Used to be the older tractors had a ton of weight to help with traction, most of the newer ones are lighter.

An old 8n would pull my old L3200 or a new L3901 all over the place in a tug of war or plowing competition. When you start pulling, you essentially start popping a wheely to some degree & unload the front axle a lot. Lots of weight on those rears beats front wheel assist when pulling & plowing. The Kubotas are more maneuverable & WAY WAY more maneuverable & capable with a load on the loader than the 8ns though.

Tractors (really SCUT & CUTS) are less & less designed for pulling a plow or pulling in general. They are more likely to run a loader or pull a mower or do any number of utility tasks, so they have evolved to fit that modern need. They can still pull a plow, or more likely a box blade, but they are designed for more varied uses than the iron of old.

I can't say for sure as I haven't seen one, but you could get a L3200 in 2wd. Id assume it just lacked the transfer case & driven front axle compared to the MUCH MUCH more common front wheel assist ones. I bet a 2wd L3200 would probably pull surprisingly comparable to one with a powered front axle. But it wouldn't do diddly for running a loader.

And my brand new L4060 just ran off.

Service guy came out earlier to check it out. He was actually able to kill the engine with just the joystick when it did it's thing very shortly after starting it. Something was messed up & he couldn't figure it out. He left & guy with the trailer showed up later. He just left with the machine.

I'm assuming there is a chunk of crap in the lines or in the valve somewhere. Works for a bit until the junk covers something up. Apparently they had a 3rd function plumbed backwards a while back, but as this mostly works & the 3rd function has no affect, that's obviously not the case.

Good insight.

If I were to run a Kubota 4 wheel drive, in 2 wheel drive, side by side with an old 8n going up a hill, neither with front weights or an FEL, which would be more resistant to flipping backwards? What about today's 2 wheel drive Kubota next to an 8n?
let's assume that all tractors have fluid filled tires.

Wow. Totally unacceptable.

I have a L2800. Only issue was the leaking hose above the brake pedal- fixed myself. I installed a 3 spool valve kit on it with a top cylinder and side cylinder. I use the extra spool for my blade or the thumb on the loader. Super tractor and little work horse

I believe a 8n needs about 900 lbs outback to lift the front end. Read this someplace. Learned this as a kid with the Dearborn 3pt. disc and a couple of railroad ties.

I doubt there's too many new style 100 hp 2wd's out there that would out pull this IH 686, it has an aftermarket M&W turbo on it. Dyno's at 106hp @ the PTO.

Own a L3901 for about a year and a half. Will be close to 50 hour service this Spring. Love the tractor has done well for me. Mow some pasture and use loader for mulch, dirt work, snow removal etc. I would load the tires if I were you to add weight for stability. I run ag wheels and have no issue with deep snow or mud.

L4701 that's a few weeks old. I'm brand new and have found these forums incredibly helpful so far. Thanks!

Welcome to the group. Always good to see fellow Kubota L owners and Virginians on here.

L2501 first time tractor owner and love it. The quick attach for the FEL and the pallet forks were the best investment I ever made. With a little less than 6 acres it has performed very well and I do not know why I waited so long to purchase. Okay I do know why I waited so long :dollarsign:

The problem is that they are not getting any cheaper... My friend bought a B2630 (???) several years back, just because he wanted it to be totally paid off for when he retires. I think he has 60 hours on it maybe.

I've had my L3301 for almost a year now. No complaints other than the fuel filler location. Bit of a bear to manage with the FEL on. A battery pump alleviated most of the problem.

Other than that, the only problem I've had is lack of funds to buy another tractor. I'm convinced that they're herd animals, and shouldn't be left without at least one companion. My wallet says otherwise.

You are exactly correct!
If you need (WANT) another one: Get it, but.... don't sell the previous one.
Same is true for guns!
Absolutely NOT true for wives!

I'm in the same boat. I've got a 2015 L3901dt. I love this tractor but I really want another bigger one. The only downside is the only way I see being able to upgrade anytime soon is to trade in or sell my current tractor. If it were financially possible I think I could easily justify having half a dozen tractors.

I would like a few old tractors to mess with....problem is a place to keep them out of the weather....all full now...ha (too much junk)

Found a L5740 built in 2011 with only 107 hours in Wisconsin (Value Implements -- I can now verify they are honest, tractor was exactly as they represented). I had them add the 3rd function valve and backhoe subframe, it already had rear lights, rear wiper & defrost, feels like a pretty good set up for winter. Just arrived today.
Unfortunately I broke my ankle (fibula) on Sunday so I can't do much, I don't see how I can even mount tire chains right now. I got the snowblower with it. With my current set up I sometimes get over to a neighbor's place and discover they have a stretch or two of deep drift, I have to decide whether or not to come home and get the mog or just spend the time to plow it. Usually I just plow it. I want to see if the 3pt blower can handle some of that, where I might plow 80% of a driveway and blow the rest. Anyhow, looking forward to plowing snow early in the morning, I've been waiting for sun whenever I could afford to.

The one thing I don't like too much is the seat. I think even the MX5100's seat is more comfortable than this one.

Not a great picture, but I just replaced my BX-2370 with a new L3901. I'm not overly excited about having a final tier 4 machine, but odds are it'll be fine.
For a basic little tractor, I think it's pretty nice. I'm hooking my chipper up to it this weekend and we will see how it does.
