My new L3400 with FEL was delivered in 2007. It doesn't have many hours on it (130?) due to overseas deployments. In that time I've had to replace the hydraulic oil sight glass, two small hoses on the loader, the large hose under the right foot, and the ignition switch. Had to replace one of the turnbuckles on the three point hitch but that was my fault. Also unfroze the seat suspension. Fortunately all repairs were done onsite without having to get the dealer involved. What is amazing is the original battery lasted seven years. Other than that, a dependable tractor that's found use in many applications including hauling deer in the bucket.

How involved was changing out that sight glass? I need to do that when I change my fluid filter and wondered if you had any tips you could share?

Thanks in advance,

Clay

Very easy. First drive up on some ramps or blocks so the left side of the tractor is high. Now you won't lose any fluid. Then just unscrew it and put the new one in.

If your changing the fluid then it is even easier. If I remember right, it is a 3/4" pipe thread.

It's easy to unscrew and put in a new one. I tilted my tractor on a hill side so the fluid was below the sight glass...

Edit: ^^^ ya, what he said :D

So if I may ask, what causes the need to replace the sight glass?

Since I posted about my "new" L3400, I've added some rear wheel spacers ( I also added chains for winter plowing, and don't like to crowd the fenders) and that seems to make it at least feel a lot more "planted" and stable. I guess it really would be. It has started right up after sitting in a single digit barn for days, a little black smoke to begin with, but soon clears and off I go. I was going to install a block heater, but the dealer said not to bother, and he was correct.

Unless it's actually broken, it just needs to be re-installed with a bead of fresh silicone sealer. Mine began leaking several years ago but hasn't leaked since re-mounting it. 10 minute fix.

How hard is the sight glass to unscrew? Doesn't seem there's much to grip.

So if I may ask, what causes the need to replace the sight glass?

The older ones tend to crack. The new gray ones are supposed to be better.

Chilly807,
35 psi sounds good. Going to have to wait for some snow to melt as the L3800 is trapped in the barn. Should have kept up with the snow. The bx2200 handles everything around the house.

Thanks
