Kubota L5740,L5030
warning, not so great with mecanical terms.

I do snowblowing with inverted snowblower pull behind on L5740 Kubota tractor and the arm on right side keeps falling off dropping my blower. This is second year with tractor. Any body else have this problem and why. My mechanic says arms sloppy so it just falls off. Kubota is sending new arms etc.. but I would like to know for future why this happens. As I go around corner blowing snow into snow bank it comes off.

thanks
chrissy

Don't know what you mean by falling off the blower.

Are the pins on the blower cat 1, and if so, are you using reducer bushings because the 5740 arms are cat 2.

Cat2 but that is not where it falls off.

There is a splinded shaft that goes through the top of the axle housing, that has a snap ring on each end. The snap ring on right falls off causing the shaft to move over which allows the link arm to fall off. The link arm attaches to the upper end of the lift cylinder. The upper end of the stabilizer link also attaches to the same arm. When the snap ring falls off the shaft moves to the left causing the upper link arm linkage to fall which causes the right side of the snowblower to drop.

Does this make sense?

Oh, Yezzz - it makes as much sense as the other recent threads on Kubota "quality".

sounds like the groove that the snapring sits in on the rockshaft has worn or the snapring is the wrong size, how old is your tractor?

The tractor is one year old.We put one snap ring on.It lasted 2 weeks. We await parts and hopefully just the shaft warn and just one of those things

Chrissy, I'm not familiar with your tractor, could you post pics of the problem shaft? With and without the arm on it.

We have a L5740 (with only 33 hrs), so we'll keep a close eye on the link. Until now we don't have any issues with the link.

Your post makes sense to me. :)

We do have an issue with starting the tractor. For about 10 seconds at start up the tractor sputters and emits white smoke. After 10 seconds it cleans up and runs fine. Does yours do this as well?

Your problem is that you don't have enough heat to get proper combustion at initial startup, hence the white smoke.

You either need to run the glowplugs a bit longer, or need to plug in the block heater (if so equipped). The bigger the engine, the tougher the cold starts. There are times on my 7.3L diesel that the glowplugs just can't get enough heat in there to avoid the white smoke and rough idle, or even keep the engine running for more than a few seconds - that's when I NEED the block heater.

Thanks bandit67.

I normally run the glow plugs for 10-30 seconds depending on the temperature. The tractor is stored inside a heated garage so it doesn't get really cold. I'll give it a few more tries. :D

Sorry for hijacking your thread chrissy28

Thats also somewhat due to the emissions hardware. It takes more heat to get the engine running smoothly now. You'll find that with alot of equipment.

Oh yeah, and the new ULSD fuel - much worse cold starts than the LSD fuel was.

Start up small puff of black smoke on both L5030 and L5740 then runs little rough 'til warms up then is fine.(1 minute?) Stored inside heated.

The glow plugs turn off automatically. As soon as light for glow plugs turns off I start up.

Are you blowing snow with the L5740? I find it is very powerful compared to L5030 has a little more power.

Chrissy,

Do you have enough room to insert a small wire (tag wire comes to mind) in the holes of the snap ring to tie the snap ring in place ? It definitely sounds like the snap ring groove is either badly worn or perhaps was not cut deep enough. If it was mine, I would cut the groove deeper and install a smaller snap ring before spending money for a new shaft ( I'm cheap).

chrissy28 said it's one year old so I think it should be warranty issue. I think until the parts come in chrissy28 was looking for ways to keep it on... personally ducktape comes to mind but I'm sure it's too cold for it to work so bailing wire is the next choice...

Yes we use it for snow removal. Its our first winter with it, and we're very pleased so far. We too find it strong. :) My father will be getting a bigger snowblower next year, as right now we're used the old snowblower that we had for the previous tractor (JD 1070, 40hp). What type and size snowblower are you using?

So the upper arm is coming off the rock shaft. Snap rings have 2 sides and only one is correct. It could have been put on wrong (twice?) or the groove is too shallow or there may be a hunk of stuff in the groove. Next time it comes off, inspect it closely for debris. Put the snap ring in and make sure it seats all the way. And put it in the correct orientation.

now 2011 and having same problem with snap rings breaking on my 3 point hitch.

Replaced shaft and few other parts in 2009.

There is a sway in the 3 point hitch with snow blower attached wondering if this is problem.

Post more on this subject.... i have noticed a HUGE degredation is cold starts, only this year, with the NEW ag fuel my oil guy has foisted on me.....

even with additives, the stuff starts harder and stinks to high heaven........
