Kioti tier 4 issues?

Considering an NX4510. I have been reading up on tier 4 tractors. Seems as though some manufacturers achieve the emission requirement utilizing different technologies.

For those that have tier 4 machines, what are your experiences?

Any negatives (other than increased initial costs of course)?

Well 2015 is only the second year the NX series has been out, in other words too new (to the public, obviously these engines would have been in testing at Kioti for quite a while) for any real data. That being said, there doesn't seem to be any indication of recurring or widespread issues relating to the emission regulation devices on these engines so far. Obviously not every new Kioti NX owner is on TBN, but even so on forums like this people tend to join to post about problems, so if there is a widespread issue it's usually pretty visible.

I am a pretty regular TBN user and I haven't heard anything yet. As said above, we tend to see problems first and praises last or not at all. Apparently there is an issue coming to light about Kubota Tier 4 engines in very cold weather, and the crankcase ventilation system freezing up causing an engine runaway. This is being addressed by Kubota with some kind of retrofit.. But so far nothing on the tier 4 Kioti's.

I too have heard nothing. But hasn't Eric had some cold weather problems with his NX? They may be unrelated, there were a lot of cold engine problems this year, but I seem to recall something that made me wonder. Now that you've mentioned the Kubota problems, it makes me think. Overall though, I've heard no major real problems, just a lot of complaining.

Heard about issues on a couple Kubota models (B3350 in particular) but so far nothing bad about Kioti. Seems like they did their homework. Or course, it could all be statistical, as I imagine Kubota's sales numbers are an order of magnitude higher than Kioti's.

My tractor is in northern Minnesota, we're colder than the lower 48. My 6010 doesn't warm up below 40 degrees, and so I put in a warmer thermostat and pulled the clean out screen and put in cardboard to block airflow. Never warming up makes the engine run rich, requiring more frequent regen cycles. You guys are unlikely to have these issues.

Diesel fuel temperature wise, read this two page PDF and pay attention.

Here's what the service manual has to say:

Fuel heater
When the ambient temperature is below 5℉ (-15℃),
some ingredients of diesel fuel start to gel, leading to
engine stall. Therefore, the fuel heater is operated
continuously to prevent engine stopping once the engine
is started..

The dealer installed mine prior to delivery, so I didn't get a chance to try without it. I've plowed twice with it, both times at least 10 degrees below freezing, and it ran fine and warmed up fine (as long as I didn't let it idle) without any modifications. Incidentally, those last two plow-outs were the warmest temperatures I've plowed in this year, (of course when you get a heated cab, winter decides to quit). My Mahindra doesn't have a fuel heater, and twice this winter I plowed in -10* (actual temp), with untreated diesel fuel.

Thanks, we're the 4th coldest state after Alaska, North Dakota, and you guys in Minnesota so this will likely be applicable here. :laughing:

What technologies is Kioti using to meet tier 4 final?

I assume Common rail on all kioti over 25hp?

DPF?

EGR? EGR cooler?

any using SCR? w/Urea injection?

I noticed that the fuel tank is under the floorboard. My DK is under the hood. I would think the engine heat would help keep the fuel from gelling on mine better in the winter.

If you have a DPF. I would make sure that the area around this filter is kept clean of grasses and weeds In the summer. Could be a fire hazard.
