Kioti resale

Mike, Neil said he was using Blue Book. Those are national averages. And my guess is it would be more complex than a simple brand ranking as you describe.

Take a look at various lines of tractors within any given brand. I suspect that the L2800/L3400 would likely depreciate more than an L3130 or L3430. I would expect a JD 790/990 would take it in the shorts compared to a 3120 or 3720. Likewise I would expect the LKs to fade in value quicker than a DK. But then I don't know. I personally am curious about all of it, just for the sake of knowledge.

BTW this is not a Kioti only question. There are threads in other forums asking about the value of specific models. Its a common questions. Seems to me a lot of people would be interested knowing which brands and models and tractor types hold value better or worse so they could ballpark their brand. There is a JD thead right now asking about a 20% hit on a 1 year old machine. I found out why my NH held its value, and why other similar models did not fair as well. I'd suggest that the thread would be best in the general Buying/Pricing/Comparision area.

I guess the person that inherits my tractor can worry about resale value if they choose to sell it, otherwise we're in it for the long haul.

I guess I view it a bit differently than you do, and perhaps you are right and I am wrong. But it strikes me that Neil needs to know this information about all sorts of brands, not just about Kioti. 

All "major" brands I can agree with, but I question how many people with lesser than the major brands want to trade in to Neil's shop.

I'm sure he has quite a few JD, MF, NH, Kub people wanting to trade in, but not many, (if any) Kioti, Mahindra, Farmtrac, Long, or Chinese.

None taken. I just can't see people with lesser known brands wanting to trade into Neil's shop.

Later this week when I go to the JD dealer, I will ask them how many lesser known brand owners wanting to trade into their shop.

Bob, I think you've hit on the very reason that people would question Neil's results. With all the other like questions that have come up in all the forums, he has not once even thought of doing a comparison with Blue Book that he's now contemplating in the Kioti forum.

Obvious to me is that he thinks it will show Kioti to have a much lower resale than the two brands his family's company sells, and that maybe, just maybe, a person or two will decide to buy a Kubota or NH from them instead of a "lesser" brand. You err many times in calling him a dealer BTW, he's a sales person and computer person for their company, not the dealer.

My advice, Neil. Save yourself some work and grief and don't bother posting the results of your study. If it shows Kioti's have lower resale value, it wont be believed even though the source is an industry blue book.

Perhaps one of the Kioti dealers, who also has access to the Blue Book, will offer to do the work?

Why do you think it is necesary to speak for everyone in this forum. It is no secret that a major brand such as Kubota, JD, NH. Massey would have a higher resale value. I don't believe tractor owners have been living on another planet for the last 20 years. I believe the reason for starting this post was to discuss the fact the resale value of Kioti's have increased. I already have proof of that. I'm sure there are some instances where head to head the Kioti would come out very well compared to major brands. I'm sure the opposite could also be stated as well. I see at many farm auctions where high hp major brands suffer because the demand for the big tractors is just not there. Small hp tractors such as 20 to 40 hp range bring top dollar. The big hp tractors can be bought cheap. They really take a hit. No matter the brand. Like I said earlier in this thread, resale value alot of the times comes down to the product you have to sell versus what the public wants. If Mr. Customer wants it, they will pay the money for it. Simple business practice that has been around for many years. To assume this thread was started to say Kioti has the highest resale of all tractors is nonsense. I took it as a discussion on the fact that Kioti has increased. I believe this whole thread was actually suggested in a pm earlier by a non Kioti owner. Correct assumption?

You can't generalize from anecdotal evidence. That's the whole point of using data from a regional or national data source. Since you said you have the blue book values, why don't you post them and/or do the same work Neil said he'd do?
