I currently have a '22 Ford F-450 King Ranch pickup with the 6.7 diesel engine. I'll probably keep it until the extended warranty runs out, so far it's been a great truck. I'm not sure I want to keep it past the warranty period. I'm really thinking about an F-350 regular cab dually in XLT trim with the 7.3 gas engine. I don't drive my pickup much and a diesel doesn't like sitting and not working. The 7.3 gas engine has half the torque of the 6.7 diesel but it still has more power than any of the earlier diesels I used to own.

Do you have the CP-4 pump?

You must have owned some really early diesels, because every diesel I have owned since 2000 had more torque than the 7.3L gas.
Heck my early 2000’s Duramax had 660 ftlbs of torque.
With a $500 tune, it could have 1,000 ftlbs.

I got a recall for the windshield wipers on my 2020 F150 in January, and to this day Ford says they still have no parts or resolution to the problem. And mine just failed today.
And a friends 2021 also failed.
So, you cannot go and just buy replacement blades, the problem is with the system, not the blades. Is that right?

Toyota are apparently making a small pickup (not sold in the US) whose only ECM is for the a/c and ignition but only for timing and detonation control. I believe it has a carb. It has wind-up windows, manual transmission (I think), a radio and a USB port. Dirt cheap apparently and the reliability numbers way off the charts relative to "normal" cars.

I have an '08 F-450 XL with a bomb under the hood, but with just over 100K for mileage I'll run it 'til it craters. There's supposed to be a diesel shop in Houston that can replace the 6.4L with a 5.9L Cummings keeping the Allison transmission. Which if the body etc. are still sound at the point is what I'll probably do.

On some of my favorite u toob car repair channels, I've seen instances of 5-6yr old domestic trucks with module failures, where replacement modules are no longer available. This situation is only getting worse as time goes on.
Nor available because so many have failed they are out of stock. I believe federal law requires 10 year part supply.

Bought my 04 Dodge Cummins brand new. Have had it now 21 years. In 04 there were no emissions equipment except for some egr in the cam profile. I lost that cam.

That is a safety recall and needs to be resolved.

It's not a truck, but I have a 2014 CTS-V coupe that has been amazing. I've replaced the tires twice, the key fob batteries three times, done a wheel alignment and nothing else other than fluids. I'm even using the original battery.
Fun cars

1971 Chevrolet Pickup -K10-4X4-FRAME OFF RESTORATION-NEW INTERIOR AND ...

One of these for sale near me. 1971 K10 4x4, 350, 4spd. White roof, hunter green body, looks to be rust free. Nice faded patina. Not a real step-side short bed though; those are rare in K10s. Was 8’ standard bed, cut down. Great looking truck, $20k asking price. As cool and basic as it gets.

Today you pay a hundred grand for something that can't make it past 5 years without a failure.
I see your point. It sucks they make it hard for us regular guys to work on our vehicles. But—-how often do you see cars broken down on the side of the road? Not near as many as back in the 70’s and 80’s.

How many miles do you have on it ?

Most useful utility vehicle I ever owned was a 1970 Dodge B100 van, six cylinder, automatic. It would take a sheet of 4 by 8 plywood laying flat. Basically, if I could get it into the van and close the doors (or even almost close the doors), I could drive away. Bare bones, didn't even have A/C. Price was $2,300 brand new in 1970. Those days are over . . .

After some years, my needs changed and I realized I was only putting 500 miles a year on it - and paying insurance, license plates, tires, and and and. Sold it - whereupon the new owner wrecked it within a week.

Replaced it with a $250 4' by 8' Harbor Freight folding trailer and put a tow hitch on whatever car I decided to tow with. I've had that trailer almost 40 years (holy mackerel!), it costs nothing to feed other than a $20 plate every year and tires every seven years, and it does exactly what I need to do. No insurance needed, it is covered by whatever car is towing it.

Understand that while this works for me, I absolutely know that many (most?) of the people here on TBN would find this "solution" utterly inadequate and even downright laughable.

What I find interesting is that it is very difficult to buy a simple single cab pickup truck with an eight foot bed, wind-up windows, and even (gasp!) a manual transmission - a work truck. I will accept A/C and a radio.

Everyone around here wants four doors, 4WD, leather seats, 24 surround sound speakers, four zone air conditioning, GPS (12" minimum), a lift kit, and it gets 10 mpg - and they use it to go get four bags of mulch at Home Depot. Then they wonder why they are always broke . . .

(Help, I'm surrounded by Yuppies and Soccer Moms!)

Personally, I find myself much more comfortable with the mindset of if you've never gotten stuck on your tractor, you aren't working it hard enough. Or it isn't big enough.

Best Regards,
Mike/Florida

Yes, the linkages are corroded and seize at the joints. I actually found some you tube videos and it's a very easy fix. Too bad Ford Motor Corporation isn't that smart.
I'm going to embarrass them at service counter when I tell them I can get a linkage kit from Canadian Tire for less than half the price of Ford parts and change them out myself in 20 minutes.

But since it's under warranty, I'll make them do their job.

Exactly but still saying they have no resolution or parts.
I should just go crash the truck in the rain and call my lawyer, LOL

As far as I know it has the CP-4 pump. My first diesel was a new '82 GMC with the 6.2 diesel. 130hp and 250tq. Not a good engine, blown head gaskets and cracked heads. Traded for a new '85 F-350 with a 6.9 diesel, I think it was 135 hp and 325 tq. The diesels I had didn't start making decent power until I bought a new '99 F-350 with the 7.3 Powerstroke. My current truck has 475 hp and 1050 tq. I have an extended warranty on it and the salesman I use said I could extend it if I want to keep the truck for a while longer.

I own 2 pickups… a Ford and a Chevrolet…

Both give good service.

The 91 Chevrolet has the high output 350 and set up to tow my trailers… with A/C, auto and pwr brakes/steering and it does well.

The 30 Ford is more for Home Depot runs… something like a dozen sacks of ready mix concrete… it’s very Spartan… 3 spd manual with no power anything.
