I could never drive something like that daily, I need leather seats. :) Pretty amazing, it looks like you sit on the fuel tank.

It was a different time for sure!

Actually, ive seen a video about ordering chassis, with seat and gages/functional, but no cab. Used in Latin America like we use "yard dogs" moving trailers out of ship yards.

Today you pay a hundred grand for something that can't make it past 5 years without a failure.
On some of my favorite u toob car repair channels, I've seen instances of 5-6yr old domestic trucks with module failures, where replacement modules are no longer available. This situation is only getting worse as time goes on.

It's not a truck, but I have a 2014 CTS-V coupe that has been amazing. I've replaced the tires twice, the key fob batteries three times, done a wheel alignment and nothing else other than fluids. I'm even using the original battery.

I got a recall for the windshield wipers on my 2020 F150 in January, and to this day Ford says they still have no parts or resolution to the problem. And mine just failed today.
And a friends 2021 also failed.

And what causes most of the failures in the diesel versions?
I have a friend who owns a pretty good size big truck repair shop and he told me he makes more on rescuing and repairing trucks with bad sensors than any other single source.

I thought to myself long ago when the DEF/DPF sensors were made mandatory, at least locate and make them so they are easily accessed and replaced by the owner operator at the next stop.

Fat chance.

I own 2 pickups… a Ford and a Chevrolet…

Both give good service.

The 91 Chevrolet has the high output 350 and set up to tow my trailers… with A/C, auto and pwr brakes/steering and it does well.

The 30 Ford is more for Home Depot runs… something like a dozen sacks of ready mix concrete… it’s very Spartan… 3 spd manual with no power anything.

The class 8 trucks with the forward tilt hoods have a big lead over pickups in that category.

They sure do.
I did a DPF sensor on my F-550, it was rusted in and a biatch to remove.

My thoughts exactly. Right now Mack has pricing and finance rates that make it almost cheaper to buy a Mack MD than a new fancy dually pickup.
Sure not for everyone, and not all the fancy gadgets and bling you get in a pickup, but you get a truck that has a B6.7, commercial Allison transmission, big commercial brakes, non-CDL models and it's easier to service.

Or if Harbor Freight started selling vehicles.... You couldn't get parts and when you tried to use the extended warranty the SKU had changed by one digit so the identical item wasn't available any more

That makes a lot of sense and I'll actually bet that you don't "often" use that cherry of a rig to haul concrete with!! I know I'd find some other way to get it home rather than tarnishing that fine vehicle! It is a beauty!!
