2007 John Deere 3320
Hello all. Here is my problem. I have a 2007 John Deere 3320 that has ran fine since I bought it used a while back. The other day when starting it after it had sat for a week or so it went to full throttle. The key did not stop it and it ended up shutting down on its own about 20 seconds later. After getting my heart rate below 200, I was able to restart and operate it for the day with no problems. It did the same thing again and I had to stall it to shut it down. After doing that a few times it runs and starts fine every time afterwards. The dealer had me add fuel conditioner to it but I only have a few gallons of that ran through. I checked the fuel bowl and found no water in it and I will change the filter when I get home. Does anyone have any other ideas on what to do? Is there a cover that I can take off to access the injector rack/govenor to clean it? Should I just take it to the dealer for service? Thanks for your help.

i would think something in the rack is sticking..

i'd for sure get it looked at before it becomes a runaway/ diesel bomb from winding up..

In case you haven't already, maybe find the fuel cutoff valve. On my unit, it is right on the fuel filter. O for open, C for closed.

If it still races with the valve closed, your may have a blown head gasket and be burning your oil.

You may have an oil leak somewhere that is putting oil into the intake.

I'm thinking it's an electronic glitch somewhere. I say that because the problem as described is intermittent. Unless I'm mistaken, you have a non-turbo direct injected Yanmar engine. Diesels that truly 'ran away' were usually the old 2-cycle detroits that scavenged the crankcase gasses.

oil from a turbo seal might do it though..IF he has a turbo.. otherwise.. perhaps something in the head.. would have to be a good leak though.. that or his fuel shutoof is not working..
