Hello everyone,
I have a 1987 John Deere 410c backhoe. My reverser(JD version of an automatic transmission) is very weak and I need to yank it out after I cripple through this winter and rebuild it. A complete replacement doesn't seem to exist, or if it does it is worth twice the price of the machine and then some. Rebuild parts are available through John Deere but only piece by piece by piece! I am guessing this would get very expensive and of course time consuming waiting on individual pieces. I did a service to it(fresh main and screen filter and fluid) which should finish up my winter snow.
My question to the forum, does anyone have a line on rebuild kits for the 410c? I can find video and lots of sources for the 310 but none for the 410. Even the dealer has not really heard of issues with the 410 but who uses this old of machine and goes to the dealer anymore? When I did the reverser service, there was a fair amount of friction material on the bottom drain plate but nothing(in my mind) that seemed excessive considering there is both forward and reverse clutch packs inside. When I got the machine(8 years, less than 200hrs?) I did a fluid change and main filter but did not know about the screen inside the reverser. The oil did not look terrible ie. burnt or full of metal, just ordinary colour of a few years old oil. I mostly use the machine for my own driveway snow removal.
The issue I was, and am, having is hesitation into going into forward motion. This got slightly better after the fluid change but did not get rid of the problem altogether. To cripple through the winter, I only push the snow to the pile and do not try to push hard into the pile and push into it at all. I am in Ontario, Canada. Any information of a rebuild kit or shop that rebuilds this type of transmission would be appreciated.
