Couple questions about the sync reverser issues I’m having. When doing loader work I am occasionally having the forward/reverse lever pop out of forward and into neutral. It doesn’t do it if I’m already moving forward, it’s usually if I’m backing up then put it into forward and let out the clutch it sometimes pops back to neutral. It feels like whatever holds the lever in position is worn out maybe. Sometimes when switching into reverse it whines a bit like it’s halfway in gear, if I hold back on the lever it goes away. Occasionally when putting it in forward and letting out the clutch it doesn’t move, if I tap the clutch again it will lurch into gear. Sometimes I have to put it back to neutral then back forward and it works like normal. Am I looking at something with the sync reverser lever that needs replaced or more deep issues into the clutch/transmission?

After a quick look at the parts catalog, looks like JD has a fair complex linkage for the forward/reverse lever with loads of points where it can get play and lose range of motion.

I suspect it's not moving the shift forks far enough inside the transmission and you may have to adjust the linkage to achieve that or just check for any wore out parts, balls joints, etc.

Sounds like more than just the lever itself. The popping out of gear and that “half-engaged” whining usually point to worn linkage or something not fully engaging in the reverser.
I’d start with the external stuff first — check linkage adjustment, bushings, and detents (spring/ball). If those are worn or out of adjustment, it can cause exactly what you’re describing.
If everything there checks out, then you might be looking deeper into the syncro/reverser pack or clutch wear. Catching it early is good though — running it like that can make things worse pretty quickly.
