Get the CD-ROM version from Deere...it's cheaper then the hard copy and you can print out the pages you need for a particular task.

There are hoods on eBay. IIRC, they cost about $300.

You may be able to repair the hood with aluminum and pop rivets or try fiberglass on the inside.

To prevent recurrences put an expanded metal guard on the bucket.

When the key is turned do you hear a definite "clack"? If not use a heat gun on the air inlet ( checks the heater) and also hold it on the fuel solenoid while pumping the prime lever.

I have a copy of the service manual I downloaded off the bottom of someones signature here on TBN. don't remember who) If I can figure out how, I could send it to you but it says the file is to large. The 4300 does not have a relay timer, The glow plug (intake heater) is simply and only activated when the key is pushed in.

Thanks for the offer of the service manual. Have you used any file cloud transfer service such as drop box or something like that to transfer larger files?
If it doesn't have a relay timer, what turns on and off the indicator light? or is that suppose to only go on when you push in the key?

The intake heater (and lamp) stays on as long as you hold the key in...

BTW, just as a warning, these service manuals are copyrighted material.
