1987 JD 318 Onan Motor. Will run for 20 minutes, then just shuts down. Wait about 15 minutes and it starts up again and then does the same thing.

When it shuts down have you checked for spark. maybe the coil is heat failing.

Thank you, I will check for that. I had thought it might be the new gas cap, it didn't have a vent, so I put on a vented cap, but haven't had a chance to test drive.

It may be related to a capacitor on the ignition circuit.

All good guesses for symptoms.
- Coil
- Bad tank vent
- Fuel line either getting too hot (vapor lock) and/or
- Fuel line weak enough that it collapses and pinches itself (is this possible?) .
