Yes, I saw that. Martin's was bought out by Spartan a year or so back. I hope they keep the name for brand recognition. Hopefully, some bean counter in the new corporation won't decide to rename the stores.Martin's just got sold again. Hopefully they'll continue their great service. Kroger on west side of SB is closing. Most likely got shoplifted to death. It was always kind of dirty in that store as long as I can remember, and we've lived on that side of town since '85.
When the last of the Oliver (Oliver chilled plow) family moved away from South Bend, they left their mansion to the city of South Bend, with all of the things inside. It's now a museum, and the centerpiece of the History Museum campus, along with the Studebaker Museum. In my current home the only furnishings I bought are the mattress and sheets.
The family was downsizing and I said leave whatever you want… I gave a 90 day no cost rent back to make the deal happen.
Ended up with a nice dining table for 10 with pads, hutch, entertainment center, sofa, dressers and tools like a table saw, arc and gas welders, planer, radial arm saw and bandsaw…
Another friend moved to AZ and gave me 4 high end leather recliners.
America is the land of plenty and with a little patience amazing things can happen… like the Honda Mower in the shed that only needed carb cleaning.
I often say to the owner this can be fixed and it matters not…
It’s not difficult if you make it a win/win…
I feel sorry for friends with spouses that max the credit cards…
Oh, when the Section 8 grandmother paying $50 a month rent daughter became pregnant in high school she wanted new paint so everything would be nice for the new baby.
I mentioned a doctor at work was giving a away a stroller, crib and changing table free…
The Section 8 grandmother said no hand me downs for my grand baby…
Yep. That one is staying open for now. But I think it's a newer building. Same area, though.MossRoad, do they still have the Kroger's at Ireland and Michigan area? I remember when the built it in the mid-late 50's.
STAB STAB STAB.... let's try your other arm........
She was the best IV starter in the entire hospital… one and in.
We call the Martin's in Granger the Gucci Martin's.Ugh.
We have 5 Krogers- one on each side of town and one downtown. Locals call the downtown location Kro-getto's- Full time police presence inside for the grab and run liquor "shoppers". Camera tower in the parking lot. Nice store otherwise- hope we don't lose it.
I grew up in a cash-poor household, and my wife grew up in a very wealthy household. This has generated two very different ways of looking at every problem and every purchase. I carefully plan most purchases, analyzing the options and hunting for ways to save money, and invest way more time than most things are really worth. She makes quick "just go with that one" decisions, doesn't even look at cost most of the time, and moves onto the next thing. What is a "poor people" habit you'll never stop doing, no mater how rich you get?
