Hi all,

I need a drill, seeder combo. I'm not familiar with the newer stuff.
The property is roughly 60 tillable acres and I want to do some haying in combination with some food plot stuff to draw in critters.
All of the ground is old hay production ground and has been worked, but sitting fallow for 10 years or so.

So I need something capable of a wide range of planting requirements. I have a lot of experience pulling those old end wheels and know a few tricks to plant small seed with them but I'd like to avoid mixing hulls.

Ideally I'd like to plant several things at once, like oats and alfalfa.
In the food plot area I'd like to plant clovers and I'd like to create some different cover with corn/peas etc.

I've been scouring craigslist and let a good landpride go, but it was only 6 foot wide I wonder if I should have picked that up.
I'll pull it with a Kubota M6800 71hp 4x4

Asking a lot I know

Land Pride and Woods make some nice stuff. All you need is money! And yes, you should have bought the Land Pride on Craigslist if it was in good shape at a fair price, did I mention these things are pricey? :)

You can get them with multiple warm and cold weather seed boxes and for soybeans, but I"m not aware of one that will do corn. If you see another on Craigs list that you are just thinking about, could you PM me. I need one too!

The one off CL wouldn't cover the tires, so I passed on it.

Well I found another Landpride PS1572.

hesistant to pick it up because there is no grains, peas or corn listed on the seed charts. Only does alfalfa, grasses, clover vetch etc.
Up here we have old grain drills, but a small seed box is hard to find.

Would this thing be too small for the tractor in my sig? won't quite cover the tires tracks.

I dunno, need to move on it pretty soon if I decide to pick it up.

That Landpride is a set up for small seeds (grass, alfalfa) and is pretty much identical to the Brillion seeder like my neighbor uses for his 30 acre alfalfa field. For grain you need a grain drill. Here's mine.

It's a Minneapolis Moline P3-6 drill (10 ft wide, 20 drops, single disc openers) that I bought for $275 (for two drills) a few years ago and restored using parts from both to make one working drill. I use it to plant oats in my 6-acre hayfield. It also has grass boxes for small seeds.

For row crops like corn and beans I use a John Deere 71 Flexplanter, two-row with variable spacing capability.

Good luck.

Last spring at an auction in North Central Idaho we purchased a JD 207B. 12' x 7" spacing with dual disc pans per opening. Has small seed bins and instructions on the large seed lid for various seeds and the travel speed. It will also drill corn & beans for rows by closing off the openers in the bin. Will use it this spring to plant Timothy. Tractor House has a couple of pictures of the JD 207B as reference. Mine has no rust and is field ready. A lucky find at the farm auction.

Well, I think I'm going to pick it up. The price is too good to pass up. Thanks guys, at least going this route I'll have a top notch small seeder and can pick a grain drill for a lot cheaper w/o a small seed box. Then I'll pick up a row planter later.

Takes me a good chunk of a day to cut it all with a 72" rotary cutter (brush hog) so this shouldn't be bad. I like that I can plant clover in tight places too. I have a HEAVY boxed frame disk with big cutting disks I can also sneak in to make food plots too so it should be a good combo. That disk is all this M6800 wants in softer soil running deep, but I pick it up some. It nice because the front disks are notched and they cut well while the back ones are smooth. I think they're 14 inch, look bigger than 12 inchers.

This is our rig. Oliver Superior Drill with grass seed box. We plant wheat, soybeans and oats in the large box and alfalfa and clover seed in small box.
Old but works well.

Idaho2 I recently I picked up a 207b for $250. Pretty good shape. I'm trying to find a shoe and furrow opener. Any idea where I can find one?

Thanks.

RPW,

Have you tried the local JD dealer, otherwise ebay for the furrow openers. New, never used extra furrow openers and the original owners manual came with our 207B. Did a manual come with yours?
