will be happy to, I dont even know if you will call mine a pond. but I will post.

I call mine a garden pond. Just seems to size it down a bit but not degrade it like puddle sounds. Should be a term between puddle and pond. Not going to call mine a puddle after spending so much time and money.

Okay Guys. I squeezed one rough looking drainage berm in yesterday morning before the big storm hit in about 40 minutes. It works,:D but I need more work on it to get it where we can drive over it. Yesterday I parked my truck where I always park it and the right rear tire was sitting on the berm. I will have to get some more concrete washout to our parking places. Or some gravel. I need to extend my septic field lines anyway.
The first photo shows the pond after the heavy rains on the 18th. We got 5 inches that weekend. The second photo shows how far from overflowing the water level was on the 18th. The third photo shows what I took around 8 am on the 28th. The water needs to raise about 2 inches to go overflowing!:D:) The 4th photo shows the quickly installed berm leading runoff to Lake Marie. The fifth photo is a close up of the overflow pipe. I installed it too low. I plan on blocking off the bottom half of the pipe and cutting out the top at an angle. The last and sixth photo shows the yardstick in the shallow end right beside the large cinder blocks. When I took the photos today, there was 3.5 inches in the rain guage.;) So 3.5 inches and the run off berm raised the level about 22 inches!:)
hugs, Brandi

Great looking pond Brandi and it appears to be perfect timing for all the rain you folks have been getting. I live a few miles North of Austin and we got about 4 1/2 inches early yesterday morning... According to a report from a neighbor near our ranch in Lampasas County, we got about 2 1/2-inches there.. no word yet as to whether or not my new stock tank caught much water.... Wish we'd get some of those gully-washers here in Central Texas <sigh>

bindain- your pond sure is full- I bet it feels good to have it full now. Now its at the overflowing stage, any thoughts about digging a bigger, deeper one ?:D

Thanks Radioman and The Dougster,
I want to raise the level of the pond before I dig another pond (lake?). As you can in the photo the water level is a bit too far from the deck joists. I plan on blocking off 8 inches of the end of the overflow pipe and cutting the top off. Then I can put a flat grate over it and the black pipe will be hidden under water.
The other photo shows where I can dig a larger pond or small lake. It would be near the white fence. The clay pile is from the pond now. It is beside my driveway which is right beside the existing pond. This rain run off came from a 5 inch rain on the 17th and 18th of this month. But first I need to get a DBA and start working the Mahindra more for tax deductions..........then I can buy a Bobcat 430 or 435 mini excuvator.
hugs, Brandi

Well, since the draught, the water level went down almost 4 feet. We got 3 and 3/8ths inch of rain yesterday and one tenth of an inch today and now it is about a foot below the overflow pipe. So with under 3.5 inches of rain, the pond raised around 3 feet.:) Also, the pier was decked back in June. I put the posts and joists in back in April. Since then (I didn't realize it until after decking) the post closest in the photos settled down about 3 inches. I guess next dry spell I will raise it and dig under it and add concrete.
hugs, Brandi

Sucks that your posts sunk on you. The longer you wait to fix it, the more it will become fixed in it's position.

It does look really nice with the water in it. You did a good job of it.

Brandi, your pond and the surrounding area are looking very nice. You've got yourself a very relaxing spot that will only get better as time goes along. I think the size of your pond is very manageable. The more the grass fills in around the pond, the clearer it will become. You'll be able to easily see your fish and minnows.

One thing that concerns me is that the pond is doing what I feared when you first posted about water seeping into it and partially filling it. I think your pond is leaking and your water is going into the water table when the pond fills up. The fact that water seeps into the pond means that water can seep out also. If you want to stop that, you'll have to add bentonite clay or a liner. Otherwise, the pond will lose a lot of depth during dry spells. If it stays at a manageable level, it may be okay. But, if you want it to retain more water and stay fuller, I think you'll have to remedy the seepage issue. Either way, it's certainly a nice setting.:)

Jim,
Your right on about the water table. I have mixed emotions over that. My pond looses a lot of water, but it comes back faster.:(:):(:);) It took two months to drop down and only 3.5 inches to get it back almost full. I have thought of using bentonite. My size pond should be small enough to not have too much "sticker" shock on the price of bentonite. I really want to keep it as full as possible. Normally down here we have a wet June and that, along with summer thunderstorms should keep it full. I am still thinking about daming my road ditch and diverting that water into the pond.;) I would have to convince:rolleyes: my water company to not purge the water line on my side, but run a 3 inch or so water hose across the street.
I got a hold of Advanced Drainage Systems' product catalog and will be buying a waterproof elbow for the overflow pipe. This will raise the water level 12 more inches when full. Maybe then the water loss with dry spells will be acceptable.:)
hugs, Brandi
