How Much Weight is Correct?

I have an X585 with 50 lb wheel weights. I will be using it this winter to blow snow with the 47" blower. It weighs about 300 lbs.

How much weight in the rear weight box is correct to offset that weight up front? I do not want to over stress the rear axle.

I run a 335 with a 42" single-stage blower. My set-up came from Deere with three "suitcase" weights to hang on the back when blowing. Each weight is 40# so I've got 120# on mine.

The 47 is wider and a two stage if I recall, so I'd say one more 40# weight would keep things proportionate to my set-up.

It doesn't appear that you need to exactly balance the weight (i.e. 300# on front = 300# on back), but perhaps a 2/3 ratio. If yours is 300# on front, then you should have near 200# on the back to keep traction. If you've already 100# on the tires (1@50# each tire), then you will need about another 50-100# in the weight box.

And don't forget those tire chains!

Thanks for the response. I have a home built weight box that I am finishing. It weighs in at about 70 lbs. I am going to use the weights from an old weight lifting set. They never did much for my muscles so maybe they will work on my tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
