How many hours on your hst transmission no matter who made it.

I see a lot of "How many hours" threads and it may have already been asked but here goes anyway. How many hours do you have on your tractor that has a
Hydro Static Transmission (HST). It doesn't matter what brand it is I am just curious about age survival. If you have a HST tractor that had a transmission failure list that too. I have a 37 year old Cub Cadet that doesn't have an hour meter but I have had it for 14 years. I mowed with the Cub Cadet 5 hours a week for 7 months out of the year which works out to be approx 1800 hours and this garden tractor had worn out a K series Kohler engine before I got it. I have had no issues with the HST and I list it because it is the swash plate type HST, that is the design that most if not all SCUT and CUT utilize.

Who makes most of the hydro transmissions ?

I am assuming that they are "supplier" items, much as tires are.

Kubota BX2350 220 hours, no problems so far. I'm betting the major tractor makers make there own HST's, but I'm not sure.

Late 70's IH2500B. Over 4500 when I got it. In 10 years I probably put another 4-5 hundred on it before I sent it off to the big salvage yard in the sky. The tranny was still running strong. The steering castings, cab, gas tank and sheet metal were trashed and the engine had some issues, but the tranny was just fine. It was a 50PTOHP 4 cylinder gas industrial tractor loader. That is, non-removable FEL on the front and 3PT hitch on the rear. Weighed about 8000#. Was thoroughly abused.

This industrial tractor had an HST transmission. WOW I didn't know they were in larger machines. I wonder now why they are not still used in larger machines.

When I was buying my tractor I knew nothing about tractors but friend of my told me that they had fork lifts with HST and they were the most reliable machines. After deciding between Mahindra 3510 and TYM 330 (they are identical tractors except the trany) we selected the 330 mainly because of the HST.
My TYM 330 has about 220 hours 80% of FEL work on it.

I would have never chose a HST except I ended up with this old Cub Cadet that was really used up and I got a good deal and decided to install a new old stock motor and use it. I plowed snow/dirt, pulled wagons and mowed 3 acres with it for about 13 years. I loved the HST because of how much faster it was to change directions. It was the best thing I had ever used on the steep hillsides and I never had to used the brakes. So when it came time to upgrade the bigger tractor (IH424) I started looking at the CUT HST line of tractors. A friend of mine has a JD in the 40HP range and I run it and it felt and responded just like the old faithful Cub Cadet. I feel safer on the hills and again I only use the brakes when I park the machines. I ended buying a L4400HST and a BX1500HST and I feel like they were good choices for what I do on my property.

They are. Look at articulated loaders.

I also have an HST in my little Power Trac PT425. It only has 350 hours on it.

Eaton/Vickers (same company now) may be the biggest maker of HSTs, but
that is only my guess.

If you go to buy a new 20,000# dozer today, it will likely use HST, with
electronic controls.

My B21 project had over 2300hr on it, but more amazing was how good
its HST looked inside. There is a good chance that your HST will outlast
your engine if you keep the oil clean and full.

Good info dfkrug. Thanks for the post. On the larger equipment like a dozer do they use a swash plate type transmission? If not what design is it? Just curious. How come you had your HST apart.
