I recently had my radiator recored, flushed the engine and installed a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water. To what temperature will this protect my YM1700?

Thanks

50-50 will give about -34ºF
In Alabama, you'd be better off with 30-70% max

Be very careful. The YM1700 has no water pump and relies on natural convection (thermosyphon) to circulate the coolant. You should use only as much antifreeze as is absolutely necessary to protect your engine from freezing coolant. Ideally, just water works best for cooling in engines without a waterpump. The higher the concentration of antifreeze, the more this natural circulation is inhibited. I live in western MD, and use a 30% antifreeze, 70% water mix in my YM1110D's which don't have water pumps. In Alabama, I would certainly use 30% antifreeze or less.

I used it doing some mowing, some tilling and some landscaping after I installed antifreeze and it didn't act like it wanted to over heat. I won't be using it any more until spring, I'll probably change it out then.

Ditto on the 30/70 mix.. no more than 30% a.freeze.. or just enough to get past the lowest expected cold point.. otherwise it wont circulate good.
