i recently changed the clutch in my newly acquired YM1602 and noticed when i drained the transmission that there was a massive amount of water in the case. like several gallons more water than oil actually.. this concerned me so it has been nagging at me to figure out where the water came from..
having to disconnect the pump lines to be able to split the case for the clutch job, i discovered the water..
i spoke to my buddy who had bought it with the idea it only needed a clutch, and then lost interest in it when another project grabbed his attention and he said he hadnt even checked the hydraulic oil levels since he unloaded it off of the trailer, the hydraulics worked and he wasnt going to be using it till he went through it so it was a non issue at the time.
the only thing we could come up with was that maybe the previous owner just filled the case with water to get the hydraulics operational to show it to prospective buyers and get it to load on the trailer etc..
honestly there was more water than there was oil. after getting everything back together and cleaning / flushing out the lines and case, the hydraulics work smoothly and i think i may have gotten lucky and nothing was damaged.
that being said, have any of you experienced excess water in the transmission case? i am trying to figure out where it came from so i can prevent it from doing it again!
