Green Yanmar Problem

Diesels are much more efficient than gasoline engines, as they are fuel limited. A fair amount of the non-work heat losses are passed through the exhaust due to lean mixtures burnt in a diesel engine.

That said, my apologies, I am still trying to understand your problem. The engine isn't overheating, it runs, and it leaves some coolant in the reservoir. That sounds like normal operation from this armchair. What am I missing?

All the best,

Peter
All last summer it expand into reservoir and failed to return to the radiator. Every third time I would use it I would have take the coolant out of the reservoir and put back in the radiator myself. If you read post#1 you will see what all I have done to solve the problem. Today when I ran it there was no problem [no thermostat and back flushed the radiator, clear water]. The tractor has never overheated just the problem of the coolant no returning to the radiator.

When the coolant expands it goes to the overflow tank and should be sucked back into the radiator. After a few times of running the over tank overfills if I don't take it out and return it to the radiator.
Everything you mention could simply be that needs the hose renewed between the radiator and the overflow tank.

Already did that. I did run again today 2000 rpm for 15 mln with no problems [after back flushing the radiator, removing the thermostat with clear water]. I am considering putting the coolant back in and leaving the thermostat out. I only use this tractor for mowing in the summer. The ym2500 [same tractor uses no thermostat]. If it acts up again I'll do the head gasket.

Are there examples of each?
Yes, you can see examples in this posted thread,

The tractor historian in Japan mentioned this on his site too.

When farmers looked into their fields from a distance and seen the green Yanmars, it took on the name Tree Frog as it looked among the crops.

Thanks for posting back the solution to the problem! Most people don’t do that.
