Hinged mower deck

Just wondering if anyone has done or seen or thought of converting their 2 blade 48" or so mower deck from a fixed one piece deck to a hinged or articulated mower deck?

What I'm trying to solve is the issue of uneven ground. I feel the mower would do better if one or both mower compartment/blade could move up/down independent of the other as your mowing across different terrain? Example: ditches that have a high side and then flat, etc..

Anyhow been thinking about this for a while and can't seem to find much/any information online. Thanks.

Interesting concept. Any thoughts how you would power the two blades? Hope you get some good ideas how to do that.

When I mow a ditch, I run one side of the deck in the ditch. Going back, keep that side in the ditch and don't overlap the mower cuts.

I think you might still be able to use the current belt drive and pulley system as long as the angles aren't too crazy.

I do the same thing as you for the double pass, issue I have is that guaranteed, you're digging into the ground one direction or both because of the angles your cutting. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Thanks and I appreciate the feedback!

A pic or two of what ground you are trying to mow and how your deck digs in would help to better understand. I have a 54" deck w/three blades.

A pic of your mower deck will give us some idea what you want to hinge. Am thinking you will end up with a skipped strip of non-mowed grass. But interesting idea.
