Mold and grass buildup on mower deck underside

Hey TMK... they rust less if you put the in the container, over winter!

I use my pressure washer under my 12' mower. The 3 decks lift up hydraulically so easily accessible. It can be a little messy but it gets the job done.

The 10-footer wouldn't fit inside, and while the 5 and 6-footers technically would there's so much...um...good stuff inside it that nothing more does.

Thankfully, they don't rust anyway because of our climate.

As others have said there is no good way to prevent this when mowing wet grass, especially with a bagger attached. I do lawncare as a side gig and scraping is just part of the job if I have to mow wet grass. As for leaving the buildup to harden, all that does is make it more difficult to scrape and the trapped moisture will corrode the deck eventually.

My neighbor was cleaning his mower deck and got some of the oldy moldy grass in his eye which turned it nasty(my professional opinion. lol) . Claimed the doctor said getting poop in it would have been better than the nasty stuff. lol.

The only trick is driving your tractor up there to hook them back up

I have a JD x590 with 48" deck and it collects a lot of grass and has to be cleaned frequently. Cutting wet grass is a real problem. Does anyone know if a mulching kit would eliminate grass buildup?

My experience is that it makes it worse because there are more baffles to catch the grass under the deck.
