I'd like to know why my flux core welds grind so easy compared to my mig welds. I like to use mig, the welds are so neet and clean with no spatter. The flux core weld is so easy to grind when it comes to clean up. I'm doing auto body sheet metal, could someone explain this to me?

Crimini Carl! What are you doing up so early, or late? Either way... you shouldn't be. I have an excuse... I'm in Taiwan.

Uncertain what you're getting at, Steve. These are MY blue "pills". I use them regularly and they always bring a smile to my face :)

I'm pretty sure this is a record. In 7 posts you guys totally derailed this thread.

In Shield Arc's first post he was spot on. So I guess I gotta adjust to 6 posts before derail.

To the OP. I think what you are seeing is the difference in the hardness of the stick weld rod used and the wire weld wire used. No big deal. But a very good time to educate yourself about the differences. If these guys can get off their personal physical limitations and get back to welding. :)

You're right. To the OP. Sorry. I got carried away.

No worries on my part. We all do it. Even Shield Arc who is the most organized and diligent poster I know. :D

I guess I started it... if I post to say I'm sorry am I further derailing the thread? Always wondered. I did post to 'subscribe' though. Interesting question by the OP.

And some relevance to me. I am trying to find best low/no spark grinding media that is affordable. Working in the offshore rig build at Singapore shipyard. Carry on...

Do you notice a difference in the sparks between the two? Sparks can indicate hardness of the metal by color and density.

Try some different MIG wire.

I recall someone mentioned a wire called "easy grind".
