Good Tractor Morning,
Ct, 24 to start going to 42. A bit of a break from the cold we have been having.

Last night was out to the FD Christmas Party. I was presented this plaque
For 40 years of service. Actually I have 41 years but they don’t present every year 😉

Yesterday I ordered some more parts and equipment for my antenna system, always trying to improve on what I have. We shall find out over the next few days how much I improved it. My order will be in by tomorrow, but I don’t think I will be able to install anything until Saturday because I’m working tomorrow and Friday looks like rain and wind, so we will see how this plays out 😉

Hope all have a blessed day 🙏

GD lives close to this area. GGD Birthday was over weekend. They wanted to go to Leavenworth for a Christmas lighting event that they do every year. No roads open to get there. In some areas they can only get into it by flying in.

28 heading to 54. Our streak of 20 days below normal temps will be broken this afternoon. Still lots of snow around now, but probably gone today.

Scott, what a wonderful honor! Good man!

Wag, I had to look up the term rammed-earth house...Didn't know about that building technique. Interesting. If you ran into it, will it be like hitting rock, or suffer some erosion?

Got my tractor out for the first time in a while...a little late for swapping out the grapple for the bucket...so that means I haven't cut any firewood yet, but I'm getting close. 😁

Morning all!
25 going to the first above freezing day in a long time! Hopefully can get some ice patches cleaned up.
Wife is headed out to do some shopping today. I have my annual physical to go to at 9:30.
Starting to do the visit and gift thing already. Mailed a few out also.

Neck is doing great after getting the shots! Not sure how long it will last but will take all the relief I can get! Thumbs unfortunately are not! Can't open jars anymore. Also having a problem with door knobs now! Fun to get old! Lol!

Here's a pic of my mantle setup for this year. Everything but the sock holders is made by me. Including the mantle.
IMG_3432.jpg

Been busy in the shop making small things. Nothing to show as most go in the burn barrel.
Did get a nice quilted maple hollow form done.
IMG_3452.jpg

Also a gift for the new baby coming in the spring.
IMG_3437.jpg

Not sure what I'll get into when I get home from the doc. I need to pick up a neighbor and bring him to a garage so he can get his car back. Might just putter after that till wife gets home.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

Good morning TBN!!
25 this morning and a little warmer today in the low 50s.

Not to much accomplished yesterday Did some more disassembly on the Magdrill. Got the gears out to look them over and then re assembled. Then started to track the electric problem and found one problem right away on the magnet switch. Broken resistor. I know nothing about those things so I turned to a friend that does. Thanks PopG. :) Hoping to get a replacement ordered and assembled again to see if it fixes the whole problem.
Other than that I pretty much stayed out of the cold. Warmer days ahead. Could be in the 60s on Christmas. Figures. The only two day I actually welcome snow!

Time for a second cup
Everyone have a great and safe day!!

Good morning, the high for the day is 33 and there is a 'flash freeze warning' and it is going down to 32°F. What a joke. ;)
Wind SW 17 gusting to 25 mph. Flurries.
The freezing rain passed us by thankfully.

I think today will be an energy conservation day.

As far as where to stop in garage before hitting the wall, I have a back up camera in the Dodge and always back in. With the tractor, I back in onto 2x8s and when the front wheels come up onto the 2x8s I am far enough back.

Have a safe day all

rip, how much snow do you get at 'the other house'? I am going to hazzard a guess that the house is on a slab (no basement/cellar). If you got some snow and bank it up against the house, it will act as insulation, also it will keep the cold wind out from underneath.
The other house is pretty special. It sits on a slab and has a partial crawl. It was originally built on the slab then extended and built over decades later. And by built over, the original building sits under the "new" extended part, including the roof. A building within a building, not kidding. The issue is the crawl area needs some work around the entrance and is really exposed to the wind side of the weather, most all the time. All the plumbing is but a few feet inside the crawl area. A heat lamp solves the issue, as well as temperatures above 10 degrees. Fahrenheit.

Bucks County PA is known for having more and worse potholes than just about anywhere, to the point where you could blindfold me and stick me in the back seat of any car crossing the county line, and I'll tell you when we're there.

But that one has us beat. :ROFLMAO:

24 outside this AM, heading to mid 50's.
Nothing on the agenda.
Replaced another already hung string of lights last night. Last of the originals. Half the string, again, gone. This time though the bulbs all had visual burn out. Wow. All new lights hanging everywhere now.

My daily walk discovers a disposed of deer carcass on my fence line by the front road. Seems every year or so someone dumps their harvest on my property. This one is sitting on the wire so I will have to go clean it up later today. So disrespectful to the animal and property owner.

Since it is "warming" up, I get to go look for more outside activities to succumb to.

Hope all have a good day. Be safe.

We have a real problem with this too. Worse part the dog is the first to find it. Far enough from the house to leave it be though. Buzzards remove it in just a couple of days. But the dog always remembers where it was.
Sad that there is so little respect of other people. Majority of the problems we have these days

Sure! Until it didn't. :p
sounds like my back

one of the utter delights of my new to me Lexus is that it has 18 inch sixty series tires.
with some exceptions, I can crash into those potholes and not wreck the rims or the tires.
But can't be doing alignment much good.
And if you want to see something eyeopening, come down Aquetong from the North to 202 and look at the curbing
along the road. I think there's a five foot drop there. You catch a tire in there and a mini would be fully swallowed up.
Treacherous at night, really needs a pipe put in and area brought to grade.
right now it's a huge gotcha.
nothing will survive that hole, well maybe a first gen Hummer...

they repaved the outer edges of Solebury Township roads earlier this year but still pretty good.
But already I saw one paved area coming up.
going to be warm today with a lot of snow melt and then 25 tonight.
get by the big fields and like waves of snow moving their way across the road, often only
one lane open here in the morning. During the night, the other lane blew shut.

I admit, the kid in me has me driving through the snowy part.
always nice and quiet driving on fresh snow

Not to make this thread about local roads, but Bucks has a long history of doing nearly zero repair on any road, until it's so bad that they need to tear the whole damn thing up and re-pave. Other surrounding counties are out there doing pothole repair after every snow storm, I almost challenge you to find a new pothole that's not filled within 2 - 3 days after a snow storm in Montco, but not Bucks!

My wife’s parents had a rammed earth house. Pretty unusual for our location in eastern PA. It was pretty solid, largely due to the mass of the thick walls.

What makes it interesting is that the majority of the roads are state roads maintained by PennDot, not the county. The remaining roads are maintained by the municipality (township , borough, etc.) where they are located. Bucks County maintains some bridges, but hardly any roadway.

Wow... had to look that one up! That's really cool, I'd honestly never seen or heard of that, before.

The stone walls of this house, although erected in two stages 290 and 250 years ago, are actually not much different. Built before the invention of Portland cement, the bedding mortar is simply mud dug from the banks of a creek in what was then the front yard. "Mud stacked stone" used to mean just that, before "mud" became slang for Portland cement.

Maybe true! But spending all of my 50+ years of life near the Bux/Mont county line, I can tell you with authority that there's a stark and easily-noticeable difference in frequency of road repair between these two counties. :ROFLMAO: Take Cathill road out of Sellersville sometime, if you want to see one of the most extreme examples... just don't do it in any vehicle without a lot of ground clearance and 4wd.
