I have found in the past that when it gets to be almost winter to go around in a light T-shirt as long as you can stand it. A little shivering won't hurt you. I am still wearing a long sleeved uniform shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a thermal outer shirt. Jeans and sneakers. When it gets down around zero F. I will put on my winter boots and my winter jacket. Below 20 below then I use the insulated winter overalls. I have both overalls and coveralls. The coveralls are Nomex rated with reflective strips. The company supplied coveralls when we hauled out of BP in Toledo, but couldn't get them in my size, so I bought my own $775.oo. They are NOMEX fire-retarded, safety striped, insulated and good and warm.
The company claimed theirs were fire retarded but when I asked them to show me the NOMEX label they couldn't.
I can prove mine are.

Tomorrow morning I go for the semi-annual tire swap. Summers off and winters on. My summers are not down to the wear bars yet, so I will get another summer out of them. I'm not in the position I need to be to get new winters this year, so we will see in the spring.

Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of 3C and it's presently 21.0C, lightly overcast with a gentle breeze.

Busy arvo yesterday. Repair of the Church's Lawn Tractor steering went well, especially as I seem to have predicted all of the tools required to perform it. (y) I also got information on the previous maintenance performed on it (2 yrs ago, sparse usage since). I was also informed that one of the outdoor toilets was leaking <grumble>. A quick trip to the hardware store secured the correct part = a half hours worth of 'discouraging words' emanating from the toilet block as I fixed the fault.

That left me, after a quick clean-up, 15 minutes to get to the medical centre for the application of this 24hr Blood-pressure cuff/monitor. It's bloody annoying... perhaps it led to my sleeping in this morning.

And, yes, another load of firewood was delivered this morning.

What with this BP thingy (it comes off @ 1600) I'll just do a load of towels. That's about it, take care all.

Coffee has been poured. 31° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 52° with partly cloudy skies and brisk winds. Grocery shopping went good. While out dropped off my absentee ballot at the township offices. Couple other stops to pay bills. Sure was nice not too have to detour onto dirt roads. All the detour signs had been removed. Got home and put groceries away. Had a chilled feeling. So fired up gas logs in wood stove. Layed down on couch and took a hour nap. Back to feeling warm. Liked the warm feeling. So conserved energy for rest of the day. May get water filters changed today.
Some Fall Colors. It's what I see out my kitchen window.

Good morning, the low is 37 and going up to 39°F. Wind N 14 gusting to 22 mph. Rain.

Tire swap then back home and off to the dump and Sundridge.

With temps in the 30s, I will be putting my T-shirt back on along with my thermal shirt.

I got the winter front back on the tractor yesterday. So the day wasn't a total loss.

Have a safe day all

   / Good morning!!!! #213,509
good morning all
a warmer 50 out not going up much in temps today but likely windy.
sounds like a major leaf accumulation day

off early to endocrinologist; glad my AIC and cholesterol not terrible and it seems taking lisinopril
for BP has helped reduce my numbers a little, only running 130's in office instead of 140's to 160.
Might have white coat issues, even when I've fallen asleep in waiting room.

need to go food shopping on way home, then likely will chase the leaves around, maybe not if too windy.

last day of October, happy Fall everyone

   / Good morning!!!! #213,510
44 going to 62 and sunny, windy.

Buppies, sorry Holly is having a bad spell. It has to be tough on you, but glad you are taking good care of her.

Ron, congrats on getting your road opened. We had a similar situation here about 10 years ago, and although it was nice is eliminating almost all traffic on our road, it made us drive far out of the way if we were heading in that direction.

L4N, $775 coveralls? ...must be mink lined? If it was below 20 below here, I'd be wearing my woodstove! 😁

Good Tractor Morning,
Scotty, that looks like quite the setup. Can you talk to someone in the DR before you go there for vacation?
GM Billy, I actually have talked with the Dominican Republic. As far as contacting them now, it’s easiest to just call the resort to find out what conditions are there. It was a random contact, I have no way to reach him again without sending an email and trying to arrange another QSO. This particular HAM was located in Santo Domingo. And I don’t know how much English these guys typically speak. So far I have had QSO’s with 45 countries and counting 🙏
I'm sure the AC is protected by a surge protector,
but what do you protect the antenna lines with?

GM Drew, I should have what Steve just posted but for now when I hear of bad weather coming in I just disconnect both of my antennas from my station. I do have a devoted 8 ft copper rod that is driven into the ground with a ground wire attached to the equipment for protection, but the best protection IMHO is to totally disconnect everything from the antennas. But I will definitely get what Steve posted before long. I will be disconnecting everything this coming Monday night right before we leave for 2 weeks 😉😃

Good Morning Winter Deere and Bill,
Happy and Bride, Happy Anniversary!
Happy, enjoy your day 🙏
There is no product available on a consumer budget, that is going to protect your equipment (esp. receivers!) from a lightning strike on your antenna
GM WinterDeere, well said. The best protection IMHO is to disconnect everything when there is any chance of bad weather coming in. On my desk presently:
Icom 7610. $3600
Icom7300. $1000
Yaesu Ft891. $700
Drake R4C. $400 plus $180 cw crystals
Cat 300 tuner $300
Vibroplex $250

So almost $6500 , Drew don’t tell my wife please 😉😃🤣

Good morning TBN!!
44 this morning . Going to be about 60 and breezy today. Overnight will be near the freezing mark. Coldest so far this season.
Had a great day yesterday aimlessly roaming the area north of us.
Went to a Restore store in Wilkesboro. Stopped at a couple of powersports places then up around the Blue Ridge.
Peak is well past in some of the upper elevations but beautiful colors once down a little bit. Found a nice lake in the mountains to walk around and give the dog some run time.
Stopped for Chinese and a couple of last minute items for tomorrow.
Today I am back in my garage. :) Will get the relay in and neaten up the wiring and the turn my attention to who knows what

Time for a second cup.
Everyone have a great and safe day!!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I got a keeper. Not sure why she has stayed with me all these years but I can safely say I am still alive on account of her!

The problem with staying busy is that I rarely take the time to fully clean up the present mess before making another. After a month or two of that, I’ve got a serious accumulation of messes to wade through. The only reward for this behavior is thinking that I don’t have a trophy shop, I have a working one.
The huge downside is that I almost always have to deal with my last mess before starting another one. Or at least push it out of the way.
I totally understand this!! What's worse (better) I having multiple projects in the same shop. Spend half my time searching for tools. Sometimes I just have to stop and put all my tools back away and then start over!

Does Ham equipment still use those old UHF style threaded connectors, or have they graduated to something a little more modern? I'd guess if all your equipment plugs into a single power strip then outlet, all you'd need to pull is one power cord + one antenna connector? Or is it more involved?

What sort of transmitter power are people running, these days? Anything requiring dedicated circuits, etc.?

<-- spent the last two weeks working a 62,600 watt 0.3 meter transmitter. The connectors I use for those jobs are a wee bit bigger! :p

@Buppies sorry to hear about Holly having such trouble. I think it is hard when a spouse is being tormented by inner disease or demons, and one can't do anything more than more than stand up and be there for them. It is tough and I think that Holly is blessed to have you on deck and there for her.

All the best,

Peter

Good Morning To All Who Celebrate! Currently 50° heading to a high of 56° and windy. Think they're calling for gusts up to 30 mph.

Snuck out of work a little early yesterday to go take multiple birds with one stone. Went down to the Messick's location that has the snowblower to look it over (It's in surprisingly good shape), ask if I can get a warranty on the sawhaul (They're debating it, waiting for a call back) and if they sell poly skid shoes for the snow-push (They don't but a similar model has two separate parts of one shoe that add up to almost $300 dollars per shoe, they'll email me with some measurements to see if the shoe will fit.)

Parts guy was very accommodating and gave great options, so thumbs up from the service perspective even if they didn't have what I needed. Think I might start some dialog about purchasing the blower.

Tree's all cut up and ready to split, might tackle that this weekend.

Watched House of Dynamite last night, I'm a huge sucker for anything Nuclear War based. WarGames, When the Wind Blows, Dr.Strangelove, Countdown to Looking Glass to name a few. Even the Non-fiction stuff is enough to keep you up at night. Like the Damascus Missile Silo Accident in Arkansas, or the weapon being released over North Carolina. "I found the arming switch, bad news, it's set to arm."

My introduction to it is to tell people "The DoD recognizes that the US had 32 Broken Arrow incidents, which is essentially an accident or loss involving nuclear weapons. No one knows how many the Soviets had. Sleep tight!"

Before I embarrass myself further, I'll summarize, it's a good show.

Parents made it out safe to the West to watch nephew parade around in his cow costume for Halloween. I'm here watching the dog and making sure the house doesn't blow away.

Goals for this weekend: Start dialog about snowblower, if it's not too spongy split the wood from the tree, make sure the dog doesn't run off.

Happy and Mrs. Happy, Many more happy anniversaries to come!
Buppies, hang in there! Pulling for you both!

All not specified, enjoy the end of October! Stay safe out there and be well!
Prayers for all Ailing and Recovering!

Edit: I apparently used a non-advertiser friendly word or two, editing to trying to bypass moderator approval as I'm sure they have better things to do than read my slop :)
