Sunny and already 79F @ 10:00, calling for a high temp of 85F ... but I wouldn't be surprised if we beat that.
Fairly productive day yesterday.
Got bills scheduled for payment.
Got seed mixed up and scattered for ground feeders.
Other side of the one t-post topcoated.
Finished filling the one sprayer with glyphosate finally. Takes awhile as the funnel/strainer/filter only holds 16 oz at a time.
Got 30 some pepper plants planted in the ground and watered in. Still have probably less than a dozen "California Wonder" sweet bell peppers to plant. Was kinda brutal in the afternoon sitting out in the hot sun getting them in the ground.
Went up and got a couple 5 gallon buckets of fresh screened compost for top-dressing plants. It was so full of large earthworms I almost hated to dig into the pile for fear of cutting them in two.
Might stop by the garden center later today and see if they have any interesting pepper varieties and pick up a few to try.
The grandson of my heavy equipment mechanic neighbor who passed away a year or so ago stopped by in the late afternoon.
He's an arborist and we worked out a deal for him to dump the wood/brush/chips from his jobs up on the compost/woodlot so he can move it over to the family property which is adjacent to us in exchange for some tree work.
So he dropped that big ash that was leaning over into the maple tree over on the west side:
The upper portions look pretty solid/good so once I get the loader fixed on the Kubota I'll put the grapple on and move it up to the lot to season for the summer before processing it for firewood. Love ash for firewood ... easy to burn even when green.
There's still some snagged limbs up in the maple tree so care is still required when over in that area until the wind blows them down.
He still has another tree to top out and drop over by the garden but needs a rope which he didn't have with him. Plan is to do it this weekend.
Dug out an Asian "ground cover" plant - "shiso" in Japanese (Perilla frutescens var. crispa) - that The Woman got from someone She had delivered to which had volunteered back in the garden. She ended up potting it:
It's a member of the mint family and is pretty fragrant ... so might be useful as a deer deterrent. It's actually edible and is used in Japan as garnish for sushi.
Got one of the new heavy-duty tomato cages put on the largest Sunny Boy tomato plant which had outgrown its welded wire cage. Need to see how it fared overnight.
Woman sprayed everything in the garden with the peppermint extract/water solution.
A doe came out of the woods on the south side in the early evening while we sitting out there and sauntered up along the western edge of the yard until she got the tree that was taken down. Turned around and headed back into woods. Then came back for a second attempt ... but just couldn't get up the courage to make it past that downed tree ...
Neighbor lady came by with her dogs, I held the new little male who is just terrified of people for about 10 minutes until he finally gave it up and relaxed.
Watered plants in greenhouse before I went to bed.
Agenda for today:
Make up some seed for the ground feeders and put that down. Refill the 2 tube feeders and 1 suet feeder.
Water remaining plants on shelves.
Get the rest of the peppers planted and top dress the ones I planted yesterday.
Get another t-post wire-brushed, primed, and topcoated.
Maybe do some needle-scaling on the others in the shade in the heat of the day.
Maybe get some more spraying done if the winds are light.
Plus whatever else comes up.
Woman has a doctor's appointment this afternoon so I'll be solo for most of the day.
Hope everyone is having a decent Tuesday ...
