catching up

yesterday (Wed) I used a car show promotional coupon for $100 oil change, at the Dodge Dealership. The '93 Chevy Silverado was the recipient, and I saved $100. (it came to $97)

while waiting, I checked Tire prices, and received a quote re 4 new TOYO studded winter tires, mounted / balanced, taxes in, for $1100. So the '16 Murano will get new shoes and possibly an oil change tomorrow (Fri)

In the next few days I will probably take delivery of a 40 foot regl 8' 6" height Shipping Container for the property. Need to prep the area a bit first, so a buddy is coming over to assist with that tomorrow. I will probably RENT / LEASE it for 6 months first ($250 / mo) and then buy it following that period. It is in excellent used condition, not exactly what I originally planned, (but it can be painted, for about $300), my friend in that business offered it to me for $6250 delivered (a savings of about $3000.00). We will get 1/2 of the rent back if we buy it in the first 12 months. My thought is that we need the storage space (from garage, an old leaky trailer, a small shed, an aluminum yard shed, and the yet to be picked up personal items in Prince George that my Sister In Law has), so it will be worth it, but not something that I was expecting just yet. i had to consult with my wife, this offer was made to me yesterday. Wife has only been here for a week, and she is a hard sell. She thinks that we can manage without it, and could certainly manage with a 20 ftr instead. The 20 ft one was the same price $6250, and delivery of about $800 extra. I finally feel like we are making progress on cleaning things up and properly storing things while reclaiming the garage. I need access to the workbench. IF my wife is still not sold on the idea of the sea can in 6 months, or if it is too big (LOL ) then it can be returned after the lease, or if already purchased - we could sell it for the going rate of about $9000. I call that a WIN - WIN.

need to get bandaid on kite string cut, keeps breaking open on index finger, finger looks a little red so going to get some antibiotic on it and a bandaid so I don't make a mess touching things. Got out of shower this morning and it was bleeding again. Minor lump and bump of life, well worth it for the fun we had.

Today will start by driving to local airport to pick someone flying in for training, then spend the day in the music studio turned classroom. It will be back to music in there tonight.

Leaves are turning and starting to fall, the lane is pretty much leaf covered.

Leaves are all over the driveway and ground is wet. Will wait for it to dry out a bit before going on with cleanup of pine trees. Not much left to do.
The ignition coil for the MS291 showed up yesterday and it was the wrong one. So will have to dig into that today. Only saw running is the pole saw at the moment. The Makita saw is due to get here on Wednesday.
Waiting for the oil seal puller for the 026 saw to make more progress on that repair. I could likely pry them out with a screw driver if I had to.
Checked into the reports of failures of the Milwaukee 2767 impact cordless and found it was the B model that have failures and being replaced. Mine fortunately is the older A model.

RNG - Check DHCP lease time and make sure you don't have ip hard coded somewhere.
My front camera was sticking to one ip instead of the one I assigned it.
After a few camera reboots it finally picked up the right ip. No idea why that happened.

Not sure I have access to either DHCP lease time or static IPs without a UI security gateway, Ken, but I'll look around in the router software again once I'm back home. The duplicate IP that's being assigned is a fallback IP the router is supposed to use for itself if it can't get one from somewhere else on the network. No idea why it would assign it to another device. In any case, the tech support guy gave up on the problem and wants me to send the switch back to them for another replacement.

$9K for a shipping container, SC? Oh my gosh, they've doubled in two years. The one trip, double ended, high cube forty footer I got two years ago was $5200 delivered, delivery being about $1100. I'm hearing something about there being a shortage, though.

I paid $7.75 for regular gas here in Bridgeport, CA yesterday, Paul. A hundred and ninety some miles on that tank, and almost on reserve, and the price sure beats walkin'.

But other than the sky high gas prices, it was a great ride yesterday. Took a bit longer to get to the mountains due to road construction and rolling road blocks (trailer draggers and motor homes) clogging up the roads, and temps were warmer even up over 8000' elevation than I would have imagined. The aspens were in fine form up that high, but down in the valleys they'd gotten only a dusting of gold.

I was excited to see a brewpub in Bridgeport, but when I walked over from the motel, I found the front all fenced in with no open gate. The parking lot was in the back of the place, so that's the door that was in use. I shouldn't have bothered, as what passed for beer was kind of a watery mess. And the cook was out sick, so I ended up at another bar'n'grill for an equally lackluster pizza. But hey, I've got pizza leftovers for breakfast.

I may have been a bit overdressed yesterday, but this morning I'll have everything I've got on. Lowest I've ever seen temperature wise on this bike is 27F, and I was still plenty warm. But in the back of my mind I still worry about ice when it's below freezing. WU sez it'll be up to 39F by 9AM, so maybe I'll catch a few more zzzzs before I roll?

RNG, you are so right on that. Get the best gear and pay what it cost is good advice. In my days of motorcycling I got the best helmet and leather gear to protect as much as possible. Had a few crashes on ice patches where I was sliding down the road just fine on ice but when hitting bare pavement it caused severe abrasion even when elbows were protected by leather jacket and bamboo sticks sewn in to it. Just imagine what would happen without that gear.
And it protected me also in a crash into the side of a VW bus. He did not see see coming and made a U turn in front me. Laid down the bike trying to scoot in front of the bus but did not make it and landed into the front door. I was in traction in the hospital for quite a while and still have metal inserts but survived

Going to finish the trailer today. Then I can haul wood again.

Not sure what else I will get into.

Top shelf motorcycle gear is worth it. Even if you don’t ever need to use it. There is always that chance….

On and off rain most of yesterday. 56F. pretty out but everything is wet.

I plan to mow at the farm this afternoon. I have new gator blades for the zero turn. I hope they will chop the leaves a little finer.
I ran up to the farm Tuesday to mow the lane. I thought it would be a good idea to check the blades on the woods RM 59 finish mower. Ut oh. Not much edge left, pretty much round. It is a wonder that they cut at all. I hit them with the angle grinder but they are pretty much toast. So I checked Amazon. Those Woods blades are made of pretty soft metal so maybe I will try something else. I don't think there are gator blades for the Woods. Amazon has "compatible" from China, compatible from USA and Oregon and copperhead blades. I'm pretty sure the Oregon would be harder metal otherwise I have no idea which to try.


I guess facts hurt some peoples feelings.
Kyle, There are no facts anymore, just what ever we each imagine.

34°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 72° today. About the same for the weekend, then the bottom drops out next week, and we'll get our first hard freeze Tuesday and Wednesday, down in the mid-20s. This weekend's mowing will likely be the last until Spring.

Trash company didn't pick up again yesterday, so the Wife called them. They gave her a litany of excuses (guy from the old company quit, new guy got sick, substitute just missed us, blah blah blah). Interesting, in that we seem to be the only ones they "missed" on our road. Whatever. They told her to leave it out (again), and they'll get it today. We'll see ...

Busy weekend ahead. The boy is moving to his own place again. He was supposed to be out by the end of July, then that got pushed back to first of September, then middle of September, then first of October, then ... another litany of excuses. His Mother flat out told him no more excuses. Time to go. He's supposed to start moving Saturday morning, yet hasn't packed a thing yet. (shaking my head)

We're going to have a lot of cleaning to do after he's out.

We occasionally talk about buying a shipping container and putting it behind the barn, SC. It just came up again last weekend.

53F and sunny @ 11:30, heading up to a high of around 61F for the day. Low this morning was 38.5F.

Plans for today include getting ball valve replaced over in the pole barn now that I've located and rounded up a pair of appropriately sized crescent wrenches.

Also get temporary electric hooked up.

Think we'll probably wait another day before having another go at the gutters. Give them and the area we'll be driving over a chance to dry out.

Woman wants to work on the garage over here at the house some more. I'm sure we can fit some of that in as well, but it likely will not get completed (which is really what She wants)

I'm hoping She will do some work on getting the garden and flower bed cleaned up, collecting all the starter pots so we can get those put away.

Days are going by quickly with less day light.

I probably won't do that ... given the high cost of the foam board to do it.

I recently dropped $1K+ for another 27 sheets of foam board just to do the perimeter (and possibly some of the basement walls here at the house) To do the entire floor would probably require another $3k+ outlay (if I did the whole floor @ 2" thick)

Hate to waste energy, but I understand that the majority of the heat loss occurs around the perimeter and we have about 125 mcf of our yearly gas allocation that we typically don't use to heat the house ... so there really isn't much of an economic incentive to do so.

At least at the moment.
