50 and rain, but dropping all day to 24. Will be firing up the woodstove again.

Don, good progress...I bet it was a nice surprise when you recalibrated the numbers.

Changed the elements and the lower thermostat on the hot water heater yesterday...so now all replaceables are done. It's almost 10 years old, but looks to be in great shape.

Then the rain hit before I got my outside things done.

David, not sure that phone holder is made to hold one on a tractor. Mine stays in my pocket while on tractor or mower.

When on an open station tractor or mower, mine stays in a pocket with a flap Velcro’d shut.

Good Morning.
It’s 37 and getting colder. We got a little sleet this morning as the front passed through, but by this afternoon should have clear skies to go with the blustery winds.

Another lazy day yesterday, mostly spent puttering around in the shop. Youngest son and daughter came up to shoot their handguns, but the cold drizzle outside had them to decide to visit with us inside instead. After they left oldest came by with my grandson and a new car seat for us to go try and fit in the little plane. It looks like it will work with a few adjustments. Finished up the day with some more computer time, but got draft of document completed. Celebrated by watching a few YouTube videos. I think my new favorite is “Matt’s Off Road Recovery”.

The action starts about 5 minutes in if you are impatient. The main rescue vehicle is a Corvair Lakewood station Wagon body on a custom chassis powered by an LS.

Not sure what I will get into today, but I’m sure that it will be interesting.
Nice looking UTV Ron. I keep trying to find an excuse to justify a new Kubota RTV, but my old Carryall just soldiers on doing what ever I ask of it, as it has for the last two decades.

Good morning. Foggy here, can't see to the far side of even the smallest field.

Bups, hope your feel a little better when you are allowed a shower today.

Don, good to hear your knee is recovering so quickly. A few more degrees each day and it won't be long at all before you are double jointed !

A few years ago I had a peanut feeder that was getting emptied overnight by a tree climbing badger. Repositioning it onto a thin willow pole cured that. Now a band of jays has moved in and are wreaking similar havoc. I don't mind seeing a few of these colourful birds around, but these take it in turn to gorge themselves on so many nuts that other birds have little chance before the feeder is quickly emptied. I did wonder if Jays are tasty (these would definitely have to be served up with a "contains nuts" warning), however is seems we now have laws that discourage shooting, so putting them into a pie is not an option. Looks as if I need to make a Jay-proof feeder, ideally while still allowing woodpeckers to make their occasional visits. Any suggestions folks ?

supper included english peas with peanuts in with them; something I'd never heard of before. And that night, I was violently ill
Bird, maybe that would work on the Jay's, we have plenty of tins of mushy "English peas" :giggle:

Finished the drive and part of the road about ½ hour ago. Bit breezy, so I had watch which way the chute was pointed....into the wind just blew the snow back or other areas (toward the house, for example) I didn't want it to go.
My shoes got wet walking through the snow. Even with the cab's heat, they didn't dry thoroughly, so I'm drinking coffee and waiting for them to dry before I head back out for the walks

Eric, a good cat will look after the Jays. Just do not feed the cat yourself. It wants to eat, it can hunt.

popgadget, I've been watching Matt for about a year now. Some interesting recoveries.
Fab Rats is good too. Sometimes he helps Matt.

I suspect maybe hasn’t aged well, coupled with a rough ride. I should have been paying more attention. Normally I would have been listening to music, but had forgotten to charge the earphones.
"Stable & Slip free : Dependents on its soft silicone-textured bottom and sticky pads, it can protect phone against bumping, scratching or flying out whenever there is an emergency braking, sudden stop and sharp turn."

Sounds like they owe you a new phone.

Good morning! 31 now, supposed to get to 36. The rain is over. Think it alternated between rain and drizzle all day yesterday.

The trigger rebuild went great. I think the biggest issue was the poor fit of the trigger rebound spring plunger. I had to use a punch to push it out of the bore. A little careful polishing of the plunger and bore made it into moving with gravity. Downside, now I need to do the other revolver trigger, the one I “thought” was decent. It isn’t now.

Also came up with a simpler way to install windows in the cargo trailer. I am using windows narrower than the uprights in the wall. So I need spacers, not a complex frame.

Went to town for Chinese. Been a while Since we were there. Then a slow ride home so my wife could check out Christmas lights. Off to bed early and slept good.

Going to do the grocery run today. Not sure what else I am going to get into.

This saga is about over….I promise! One year ago….

Night was ok. The latest med was helping. I now was getting a warning before things happened. Couple of times, the aide almost made it for me to use the bed pan. It was still embarrassing and frustrating. Got the morning blood draw. Then my charge nurse was in and gave me the last pill to slow things down. We talked about it and decided to take it a little late, just before breakfast.

Cream of Wheat was on the breakfast menu. I am not a fan, but ate the entire amount. Closest thing to solid food in weeks. Rest was juices, Boost, yogurt, etc. And coffee, which tasted like burnt water. But I drank it anyway for the caffeine.

The morning was fairly calm. Then about mid-morning, I called the aide for the bed pan. And with that…control was back. The embarrassment and frustration was over.

About mid-afternoon I got a visit from Dr. C. He was the 2nd covering doctor for the weekend. And turned out to be Dr. Deb A’s department head. Really nice guy, very pleasant to talk with. We reviewed a lot of things. He was concerned about 2 liver enzymes that had gotten extremely high, but admitted it was likely due to the lipid fats they had been putting in me.

And then…..he told me he was considering sending me home, I was about 48 hours ahead of “plan” and ”was not going to get any better laying in that bed eating their food.” He wanted to see my Monday blood work, if the 2 concerning enzymes stayed stable or fell, I would be released. He felt familiar surroundings and food would do me good.

I was stunned. I thanked him. And he left.

Called home and let my wife know there was a possibility I would be released. She had just gone back to work towards the end of the last week after her quarantine period was over. She contacted he supervisor after we got off the phone and told him she may need emergency leave which he granted her immediatel.

The rest of the day was quiet, was trying hard to control my emotions. I didn’t want to get my hopes up and have them dashed on Monday. Spent a quiet evening watching TV…..and a quiet night that even included some sleep

Everyone stay safe out there!

Roy I know you are taking good care of your wife while her leg is healing, but do you ever leave her notes like my wife leaves me?

Hard to watch one without following the other. I particularly am enjoying the saga of the golden nugget.

Nah... either my stepdaughter or I are here at all times and we all have cell phones. Other than the leg, my wife is pretty healthy. If we do have to leave, it's only for local stops. As an example, stepdaughter goes to a chiropractor...just up in Randolph (about 6 miles) and isn't gone for more than an hour, hour and 15 minutes. For me, normally just the weekly dump run.
And, of course, if it's an emergency, there's 911

I had parked my truck on the lawn yesterday so I wouldn't have to move it before clearing the drive. Boy! Big mistake!! The average depth of the snow was a good 8" or so, but along the truck's driver side door...probably a foot. My shoes and jean's legs were both covered in snow (about mid-shin down). Shoes are drying (again), jeans, socks and shirt are in the dryer. Truck's fairly cleaned off....I think I'm done for the day. Gettin' too damned old for this stuff!!!

Roy hope you got the rum before the snow started
Negative...the rum is going to be a Christmas present. I'm not a rum drinker... I'll pick it up one day this week

In my first post today, I'd written it was 29° and that's where it was going to stay...well, wrong!!! It's 23° right now (0924 EST) and will be dropping to single digits (7 or 8 degrees) tonight

Good Morning!!!! 34F @ 6:15AM. Foggy this morning, then partly cloudy this afternoon. High 46F. Winds light and variable.

Thanks for sharing your story, Rich. Glad you're still with us!

Congrats on the new record mileage, Bruce.

Cut up and dragged off another tree yesterday, and found yet another one down. If it keeps up like this, there soon won't be any left. Need to fill the hole where the root ball was, then start on the next one today.

Another nice thing about the electric chainsaw is the slow rate of cut. It lets the tree give lots of warning before the cut breaks off, letting me and the saw take a few steps back and safely watch the chaos from a distance.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend.

Morning to all;
Well I'm being real lazy this morning, the forecast 4-8 inches did not happen.
We got about 1 1/2" then it turned to sleet, then freezing rain, then rain, ended up with less then an inch of crusty crumbly stuff.
With a small buildup of ice on the tree limbs. So with it at 24F and projected single digits tonight I've been debating with myself
on what to do with the driveway, I have to shovel and scrape the walk areas maybe use a bit of calcium and sand. Thinking I may use the york rake to crumble and break up the icy crust on the driveway and then wait to see if I need to fill the sander and sand or not.
Finish reading the online edition of the local paper first.
Everyone stay safe out there.

What? your a sailor who doesn't like rum? That's like 1 of 3 main habits sailors pickup (amongst others)....rum, smoking, black coffee in no particular order. LOL....I guess your just more refined now.

40F here this am, but warming up. Sun is out today. Nice day.

It is easy to get to watching YT videos and wonder where your day went...mea culpa.

Time for church. Prayers for recoveries and healing...and our nation.

32F and cloudy @ 11:00, heading up to a high of 36F for the day. Got a light dusting of snow overnight, enough to cover some surfaces (pole barn roof, leaves in the wooded areas) but the lawn is still green.

Yesterday there was enough rain that there was standing water in the low spots of the lawn.

Ten Day shows no precipitation for the next five days so should get some drainage, if not drying. With high temps only the low 40's it will only be drainage I suspect ... lol. Next two days should be fairly nice (sunny) though.

Quite a few birds out around the feeders and garden this morning, probably about a dozen doves. Hopper feeder empty, it and the sunflower tube feeders will need refilled. Check birdbath also on menu.

Electric fence still standing, no evidence that anyone got tangled up in it ... and no evidence of further digging in the planting bed. Got a dozen or so tin cans drilled yesterday, need to string them together today and get them up on the fence maybe. Be another a day or two before I get to putting the bottom two wires up.

More clean up done in the basement, will do some more on that today.

Got the 1 x 6 x 6 cedar fence panel cut up into sections for hopper feeder, had a good bit left over since there was some remaining from the last one. Have to cut the angles on the end pieces today and can then start putting it together. Once I get it put together I'll pull the existing hopper feeder and bring it inside for the thorough cleaning and refurbishment, along with the old squirrel feeder which is already inside.

Need to get the three replacement pieces of stove pipe for the woodburner screwed together, pull the old ones out and inspect the elbows on the ends to see what kind of shape they are in. If those need replaced, a trip into Ace Hardware may be on the agenda. Will be good to have it hooked up again, obviously for the backup heat source but also just to be able to get rid of waste paper and burnable trash.

Amazon just dropped off small order, which included a couple Staedtler garden paint pens for marking plant labels. Have 30 plastic push-in labels that need marked, may get to that later this evening.

The order also included a set of those Milwaukee folding knives that Popgadget mentioned awhile back (Cha-ching !), which seem very nice ... will be good to have something that I can easily carry on the belt for cutting.

Beyond the above will probably do some clean up in the kitchen and dining room, along with some laundry and dishes.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Sunday ... (y)

66°F and .89 inches rain

Got another couple hours of mowing yesterday less than half done in that area. Looks like I might get weathered out today. If so, may watch some football.

Hand and Foot this afternoon

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
