How often is every now and then? Without the vegetables and if it's 4 servings per recipe then it's 33 grams of fat per serving (when I put it in myfitnesspal website).

I really shouldn't be messing with you . . . you had a bad week.

76F and clear @ 20:45, heading down to a low of 67F overnight.

Early start today (after a very late night last night ...) got little over half of the new planting bed on the east side of the frog pond raked out. Had sprayed that area a while back, so it was mostly dead or dying. Still need to gather up the debris and haul them up to the compost pile ... along with spraying the other half ... but I need to move some items first.

Watered the potted stuff - iris, hemlock, and oak trees.

Fixed the one tube feeder that had six broken perches, with the spare parts I've accumulated - now just need to clean it out.

Dumped two 5 gallons buckets of used cat litter into two groundhog holes on the east side of the house, pushed it in with an old implement handle and then used the garden hose to flush it further down into their burrows. The main entry/exit hole will get a shot of pepper spray tomorrow ... :devilish:

Raked out some screened soil that I had dumped a few days ago on another area (northeast) with exposed roots.

After that I started to do the clean up on the east side planting bed on the edge of the woods. Made some good progress there weeding and giving one of the two rhododendrons a good pruning:

Appears to be a decent amount of new growth ... so it appears to be liking it there. Added a cup and half of soil sulphur and peat moss around the base and worked it in. Hopefully get it watered tomorrow.

Once the clean up is finished, this area will get more screened compost added, then a bunch of those hosta sets The Woman separated, and finally it will get mulched.

Since I was up late last night, I did manage to sneak in a 3 hour nap mid-afternoon while the temps were the warmest ... ;)

Hope everyone had a great Sunday ... (y)

@daugen, sorry for the short answer earlier but I was in a hurry and didn’t want to get into politics which is almost impossible when discuss Austin. I think I’ve tried to stay non-political In the post below.

I have been involved with Austin since the early 1970’s. It is a very political place. Hence the weird aspect.

Right now the city has been forced by the voters to reinstate an ordinance they revoked over a year ago that prohibited camping in public places And to clean up the mess from bums camping under every overpass in town.

The city council has also severely cut funding to the police department. This of course has resulted in a lot of friction in the city. Police response times are very bad right now even for shootings, stabbings and other serious crimes.

Austin used to be able to absorb some of the weirdness and everyone would let it roll off. It’s gotten to the point where that is just not possible for most voters to accept any longer.

I spend a lot of time in Austin. There are about 40 square blocks around the Capitol that are under primary jurisdiction of the Texas DPS. It was recently expanded but I don’t recall how much. I do my business and don’t wander around like I used to.

Back during the riots last summer Austin had some of that. It was supported by the City Council but tamped down very quickly by the TxDPS. I watched live video from people on the street in front of the Austin PD building where rioters were trying to whip up the crowd. By this time there had been at least one shooting where a man was killed.

The APD announced that this meeting was illegal and they must disband. They didn’t. Then came the APD mounted units. And right behind them was a huge number of DPS in riot gear. APD made the announcement to disband and the crowd promptly drifted away. Riot was over in Less than 30 minutes.

I could post a long post about what I have loved about Austin over the years but that Austin may be gone for good. I hope not.

Nap Good ... (y)

Love Cajun food.

Same.

RS seems early for leaf turning,

It always seems like it ... but it's pretty typical for around here.

The hawthorns are the first to start dropping their leaves (around late July/beginning of August), followed in 3 weeks or so by the dogwoods starting to turn color.

productive day

Yeah, considering ...

Tomorrow will be better ... ;)

RS hope you ground hog efforts pay off.

Resistance is futile ... it's only a matter of time.

Nice nap!

I sure enjoyed it ... :giggle:

Hope the conserve energy day was enjoyable ... (y)

68° right now....high in the upper 70's. Rain today, but not near what was predicted a day or so back...less then ¼" in today's forecast. I hope that holds true...

Our recertification for the Quality Management System starts today. I'm the guy leading the charge, so to speak. I've had some communications with the registrar and he seems pretty reasonable.

Wreaking the truck came at a bad time (not that there's any good time to wreak a vehicle!!)...can't really afford to get it to the shop for another week. It's not the money...it's because I need the truck (bring pallet forks home tomorrow (Tuesday delivery) and pick up the rescue pup next Saturday)

Anyway, y'all have a great day!!!

good morning all
glub glub, mighty wet out, flood warnings out, 2.68 inches of rain so far

Ron, great pic, you must have gotten down close to the ground to capture that.

Supposed to rain all morning, will hold off on errands until this afternoon

This morning my number one priority is getting through to covid vaccine center, who announces their hours to include
Saturday 9 til noon. I called at 9:30am, we are sorry but we are closed today. Ok...

At church on Sunday I was asked to help house and grounds with a project they could not handle, too much disagreement and not enough getting done.
All about security on site, how to deal with dangerous folks. Local police and consultant gave us a 35 page report on everything to make the place safer, which I think is wonderful.
But keeping in mind we are all pacifists, the arrival of police on campus with guns still seems to bother some of the old timers.
Not me. I started the "intruder on campus" project at the local private school fifteen years ago when I was on the board before.
Oh, it can't happen here.
Un huh.
we may be the peaceable kingdom but the world is not.
And to confirm that, local police are now patrolling the local churches on Sunday morning, just to make a presence.
So clearly there is some kind of threat assessment going on.
I met the officer stopping by and we had a nice chat.
Maybe it's because I was a fireman for a long time, but the police have always been
the good guys to me, the public servants willing to do what others can't.
