11 degrees right now...high about 30 today...

When I went out to start the truck yesterday, all the snow that had been of the roof of the truck had slide down over the windshield...frozen pretty solidly. I chopped and cleaned it off and cleared the wiper area (while the the off position). Unfortunately, I must have knocked the passenger side wiper off the arm, at least partially...didn't notice.
Driving to work a few miles down the highway, I actuated the wipers...and there went the passenger side wiper blade...duh!! Rather stupid, eh?
Well, stopped...blade was nowhere to be found, of course. I raised the arm so I could use the driver's side wiper without the passenger side arm scratching the windshield. Fortunately, I had spare blades at home and replaced the passenger side wiper.
Pretty stupid, but that was my adventure on Monday...
I will do a better job clearing any snow and ice, henceforth...

Good morning, the temperature is 7°F and going to a high of 21. Wind E 6 mph. Periods of light snow.

I am not doing anything today. Furnace oil delivery today. That ought to hurt my wallet.

Have a safe day all

Prayers for all

Prayers for our country

Good morning all. It rained all night and plenty more coming today, temperature has shot up to 10C/50F, so not too unpleasant getting wet when out of the mud. I will have a day inside though, learning and experimenting more with LoRa radio transmission. Not having a commercial deadline when testing circuits and software is a lot more pleasurable than it was a few months ago.

Think it's time to get a grinder to carve wood , any recommendations, would be my first grinder and plan on making something of the ash stumps?

Ken, not sure what sort of grinding you have in mind, many use a small chainsaw with a 12" narrow nose guide bar for carving. Outside of normal woodworking tools, for exterior hardwoods I have used an angle grinder with the little 4 1/2 inch flap discs sold for grinding steel. A 40 grit disc removes hard oak fast, with finer grits to get a smooth finish. Do wear a good mask and ideally pick a windy day to blow the dust away from you.

Starting at 22 this morning with a high of 34.
Need to shut off the pellet stove so I can give it a quick cleanup and dump out the ash pan. Cold nights in the lower teens are coming according to the weather guessers!
I am supposed to meet up with one of my old workers today to reminisce about the bad old days. Work-blech!!!
Wife and I are enjoying her new extra time home so far.
No snow in the forecast for a while. Going to have to think of a tractor project soon.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

good morning all
31 going up to 42 in sun today
no plans other than grocery shopping this morning and dropping
off "last" (famous last words) birdhouse at UPS for shipping to old friend in NC.

my sister in California was upset she had to take my bird feeder down, along with six others she has.
Apparently there is a salmonellla breakout among finches and other small birds and it's killing them.
Advice was given to take them all down, disinfect them, and put them back up two weeks later.

I know of many folks who clean out their birdfeeders on a regular basis and not just shaking them empty either.
Admit I've never done it, gosh, am I enabling a superspreader event on my picnic table?.

And since they are eating all the time, not like I can put tiny face masks out for them...;)

Don, that's a good public notice. I guess I'm a 1B now.
My good friend in DE is a retired head of Health Dept for big NJ city, he is so glad he is retired and
living in the less dense area where he is. Plus he isn't facing the job stress from this.
It just seems like there isn't a consistent approach here and that's part of the downside leaving procedures up to the States.
Going to be a lot of eyes on this process in six months to find out who ran the best operation and who didn't.

I've been looking at cruises to Bermuda. Maybe July. All depends upon how Bermuda is doing too.
Done this cruise four times and clearly have not gotten tired of it. Fine print in cancellation clauses very important now.
Trip insurance/cancellation coverage might become a lot more necessary.
The other cruise I'd do again is the one up to Canada. My Bar Harbor golf shirt
is getting pretty worn.

going to try to buy only healthy foods today. Will see how I do.

Poured first cup of coffee. 26° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 30° with a few snow flurries. Power came back on at 1 pm yesterday. Did get a few things done in shop and barn. Dr appointment this morning. Then get laundry done. May be a good day to a conserve energy afternoon.

Roy good you caught wiper before it scratched windshield.

Looking, I do not miss paying for a fuel oil tank filling.

Ken, cookies look good.

Buckeye, chili.

PJ, nice stool.

Rich, hope hair cut went well. I need one. But going to wait until I get finish my Vaccine shots plus 3 weeks. Should be down to my shoulder by then.

David, I like your cookie recipe.

Drew, a cruise to Bermuda sounds like a good plan to get away from it all for awhile.

Phil, enjoying extra's days with wife.

RNG, are you storing split wood in double ended container.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

29 getting up to 52 and a bit of breeze to boot. Had a 5 minute snow flurry yesterday.

Eric, are you gonna build a LoRa link at your place?

PJ, real nice looking foot stool. Am I remembering correctly that she quilts?

Got a nice hike in yesterday on what turned into a very busy trail...but ran out of gas (me, not truck) before cutting firewood. I did find another dead oak, so I've got a mental inventory of trees to go after. I did some more sand shoveling down at the bridge to correct more of the flood damage, so ready to go back in the woods this morning. Been getting a coyote on 3 of my game cams nearly every night/day, so I'll be prepared. Fuuny to see a rabbit on the cam, then an hour later a coyote or fox, than an hour later the rabbit again.

Prayers for Kyle's sister and fam, and others.

Roy, sorry about your wiper, glad you had a spare. And that's why you have a spare...good thinking.

One of my requirements for moving North/renting a place was that it had to have a garage.
I've done too much of what Roy is dealing with.
Today's trucks and tractors are tall enough it's difficult getting the roof clean of deep snow even with the long brushes.
No more of them for me now, the Audi is small and easy to wash. But if I replace the car with a truck, I need to go get
a pole brush. Pole brushes are old friends of mine after owning a boat for so many years. Yet another thing I owned and was sold off.
Good telescoping boat brushes are not cheap, but last a long time. I use the ones with a synthetic wool pad.

Frozen wiper blades against the glass and snow falling on you as you get in car
vs. dry and warm out into the elements and back again.
Garage please.
Same thing down South. Sun is so strong that if you can protect your car from it, stays much nicer longer.
Just think seriously bleached out Kubota hood paint...

But then many of us only have enough garage space for wife's car.
Not like it will end well if you ask her to park out there...

Bad winds in California, like LA doesn't have enough problems already, now the fires come back.
RNG hope it all stays South of you.

daugen, now you know why I have three portable shelters for my rolling stock. While I am able to raise my arms over my shoulders, pushing snow off the roof will cause me tons of pain.

30 outside this AM. Heading to lower 50's.

Neighbors, friends, up the road are battling Covid. Will check on them, later today.

Was outside most of the day yesterday. It looked a lot warmer than it was. Got the burn pile moved, and managed to punch a hole through another tree line. Found lots of my old friends, barbed wire. That was hours of work cleaning that up. Need to take a sapling out just to make a nice pathway down there.

No other plans for the day, or week.

God bless America. Hope all have a great day, be safe and stay healthy my friends.

I was thinking about you when I wrote that dealing with repeated heavy snows.

one thing I bet all of us here have in common is that if given a new two car shed/garage and shop
we could sure find a spot for it. Storage is almost always an issue. Equipment including cars are such
an investment today in available capital that preserving the value of that asset
or slowing the depreciation rate is simply sensible.

one of the problems with leaving equipment outside is tarp or no tarp,
and if tarp, what kind of critters will try to live under there.
Snakes give me the willies. Pulling that tarp back and wondering what you will find.
And I did find snakes under one. I simply left.
When I got back, family of snakes had slithered off, likely into woods.

Snakes perform an important food chain/ecological purpose.
They sure kept my barn area free of mice. Didn't see if they ate the little geckos that lived there.
I hoped not, those little guys would come up to me while I was working on machinery and we would have a little talk.
They were always inquisitive and asked a lot of questions. Sadly in a language I did not understand.

time to get moving, dark sky turning grey

   / Good morning!!!! #125,877
For the price of the quonset hut I will need I can buy 50 portable shelters, and still be ahead of the game.

The most aggressive snake here is a copper bellied water snake, they are the more aggressive cousin of the garter snake, which we have lots of. I tolerate them. We have to take the lid off the dug well and fish out the snakes every summer.

Good Morning
It’s 32 and supposed to gain about 10 degrees throughout the day, a repeat of yesterday.

My cars are in an unheated garage attached to the house, tractor and KubVan are in the heated shop next door. I guess that says something about priorities.

Ken, I’ve always been fascinated by disc attachment for an angle grinder with saw chain around the perimeter. I’ve never used one, but they look like they would be great for a wood carver.

Good trivia question about Bermuda. What US harbor or airport is the closest to Bermuda?

I’m going out with my HVAC contractor friend today to help troubleshoot a boiler issue in an Odd Fellows Lodge this morning. Sounds like a control issue, and I suspect confusion reprogramming the schedule on the thermostats is at the heart of it. They were reprogrammed due to the lodge doing zoom meetings and getting little or no use. Hopefully my guess is correct, because it’s easier than dealing with the zone controller, and the devices it controls. But I was recruited for the worst case, and it’s always in to o along for the ride.

My vehicle is in garage, wife’s is outside. Lol.

My wheelchair ramp still in the way on the other side, should remove it. But I have stored a bunch more stuff in garage next to it, so will have to clean up a bit. And I might need the ramp again, you never know.
