Good trivia question about Bermuda. What US harbor or airport is the closest to Bermuda?

Hope you're planning to go there. I'd have to guess Norfolk if you're talking big ship or big jet...or Morehead City might be closer for a ship, but no big airport in the area other than military.

24 early, 50 later with sunshine.

Since our Bermuda cruise was cancelled last year, I’m not even going to consider rescheduling until this pandemic is way in the rear view.

Ii don’t know about ports or airports, but the closest land is Cape Hatteras, a place I know well from my childhood.

Still chasing dead ends trying to get the vaccine.

Got a busy day, check in later.

Good morning! 65˚F, 80% chance of rain. FireWise clearing still on with the rain holding off, maybe.

Laying out the replacement cattle fence yesterday brought back a bunch of memories. It was on the land that used to belong to my grandparents where I spent a week every summer with them. The property boarder follows the middle of a winding creek. Some of the old fence is now 1 foot from falling into the ever eroding creek edge. One fence line is a "S" shape and I just moved the corners which not only making it a straight line but away from the creek edge. We lost a little pasture land to the creek but better because no trees to cut down. I'm just an advisor on this job, my cousin will do the installation, he has all the toys and crew to knock it out in a few days.

One of the stipulations when looking for this house was a 3 car garage. The sun easily makes the vehicles an oven even with tint on all the windows. Oh the windshield tint is still holding up good and it will definitely be on every vehicle I buy from now on.

Drew I have been looking at cruises also. However with my wife is in 1-c no use making reservations. I have notice that the cruises are now letting you get a refund with just 48 hour notice before sailing and a lot of good deals.

Good morning, 29 going up to 42, and , well who knows after yesterday's weather :)

Split and stack done, look up and the tree next to splitter has a dead top, probably 20 feet exposed trunk. Time to move the splitter....

Roy, sorry to hear about you wiper , at least not drivers side.
Thanks Eric, have mask etc. ordered a HF a shaping disk, flap etc. to start. Trying to only use chainsaw for the big cuts. Plenty of windy days lately!
Ron - glad power is back-
PopG - the chainsaw discs - saw a bunch of pro carvers say not to use unless you can really focus. They have a tendency to grab and go. Youtube is a good friend, until you see a video and then start buying more tools :)

Wifes car in garage, tractor next to it. Other 2 garages have projects, work out stuff, storage. Could use 3 more garages with tall doors, but not going to happen ($)

Stay safe and be well, back to work...

Good morning. It's a balmy 62° with light rain and should get to 72° this afternoon. Forecast indicates we'll have rain off and on the rest of the week.

I'll be loading up the Polaris Ranger this morning and off to dealer for 50 hour oil change and checkup. When I first got it .. the battery wasn't being charged. It has an alternator capable of charging dual batteries so, it has a split wiring harness to accommodate that. The dealer swapped over to alternate side of that part of the harness .. all good.

The bad side of the wiring harness will be investigated, this visit, with possible replacement. The dealer has offered a single seat or crew "loaner" .. my choice. This will likely take a couple of days.

VFD Drill was "fun" last evening. The vast majority of our calls are grass / brush fires with support of county EMS 2nd, so we rarely have to use our "bunker gear".

The Chief decided that our new "goal" would be to get suited up, in complete bunker gear, including hood, gloves, SCBA mask / air tank and helmet .. in 2 minutes. Most of us could beat 3 minutes so .. more practice needed.

My two (much younger" nephews who are "paid" fire fighters in Palm Springs, CA and March AFB "claim" 90-100 seconds?

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

Prayers to all.

28°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 43° today.

Yes, wngsprd, you do remember correctly. She has several hobbies, but quilting seems to be her favorite, especially in the Winter when there's not much to do outside.

We park both of our cars in the garage, where a milk house heater keeps it from getting below 45°F. I definitely don't miss cleaning a car of snow or frost every morning. The truck sits outside, and the tractor is in the unheated barn.

I have noticed a software update on the Tempest weather station. One of the changes is that it now measures rain fall to the nearest one hundred thousands of an inch (instead of tenths) from the vibration plate. An advantage to determine how hard it is raining - when the number changes rapidly. Rainfall today so far is
0.011754”.
FireWise has been called off.

27F and cloudy @ 09:30, becoming sunny later with a high of 36F.

Got a good snow (1" - 2") night before last which stuck to everything and made it look like a winter wonderland.

Friend up the street who has been sick for several weeks with chest congestion/pain/weakness (possible COVID ?) sounds like she is finally turning the corner. Says the only thing helps with her lungs is breathing cool/cold air. Her husband has not been affected so far as I know.

It has finally gotten dry enough here that I've started to really notice it, so pulled out the vaporizer and set it up in the bedroom. Need to refill that now, after it ran all night.

Missed getting the trash out yesterday for this morning's pick up, so it's starting to pile up in the garage. Glad it's cold.

Refill all feeders on agenda, also plan to make another Texas Sheet Cake today.

Probably find some other trouble to get into.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Don, they must put their equipment away very carefully so they can just jump right in.
Having a helper put SCBA gear on is always nice.
That turnout gear sure made my car trunk smell bad. It was not allowed in the house, just the garage
for cleaning. Hard to get that smell out. We found citrus spray helped. Now I bet that Australian tea tree oil
would help.

grocery run done, am buying one six pack of tp each time and now that I have two 6 packs in the basement,
I'll wait until I have to open the second six pack before I go shopping again. In a real calamity, I have a case of rv toilet paper
that I hung on to.

Good morning to all! Low of 25, high for today is forecasted to only hit 30. Started snowing sometime during the night, only a couple of inches so far. Lightly snowing now. Only supposed to get 4". Forecasted temp for tomorrow is 45, followed by 50 for Thursday, so won't last long.

Yesterday hit 52 degrees, so decided to manually water all the landscaping beds / pots. That took about 4 hours. While watering, I had a surprise visitor.... a very young German Shepard. It took me a bit to get him to come closer than 10', but after he finally gave in, I made a new friend. He apparently escaped from a neighbor's a few parcels away. I walked him back home and put him in their gated yard....

Then went over to the son's place to check out his new pressure washer from HF. It was very nice, came with a few accessories like a long neck funnel and surprisingly a high altitude carb kit. He got it all set up and did a trial on the back porch.... worked fantastic! Very powerful.

Brought some pellets in the house. The wifey had been making the monthly allotment of dog food, so then I cleaned up all the pots and stove. After that, called it quits for the day.

Roy, that list has more that applies to me than not.... I'll leave it there....:D

I remember those bunker gear drills.... we had to get completed in under 2 minutes. One glitch/ stumble and you won't make it. Many a time missed a sleeve on the coat or a strap on the SCBA ..... would make a good episode of the 3 Stooges..... We all had fun with the mistakes.

I just noticed the birds are looking for seed in the feeders.... forgot to do it yesterday, even though I told myself multiple times to fill them..... gonna go do it now while I am thinking of it....

Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning!!!! 48F @ 8:15AM. Sunny. High 67F. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph.
Highest wind here yesterday was 30MPH, a gentle breeze by New Mexico standards, but it was enough to get me a day off from wood splitting.
The 10-day is still showing rain by Friday, now dry Saturday, and a 50% chance of rain thereafter.

I've got 6 of the 8 pallets filled with wood, and only two of them are in the container. I'm headed to Sparks, Nevada, a Reno suburb, in a few minutes to purchase a pallet jack from the Clark dealer there, and do some shopping in the "big city" at stores we don't have locally. Then back over the hill by dinner time.

I was hoping to avoid buying a pallet jack, but without a side shift on the pallet forks, I can only put pallets down the middle of the shipping container. So the plan now is to wrap each pallet in that 2' wide plastic wrap stuff, then stack one on top of the other, holding them together with ViceGrip pliers. Then use the pallet jack to roll them into two rows. I should be able to get a couple dozen pallets in there like that, with lots of room left over for other indispensable junk. I've heard rumors that pallets will breed under the right conditions, but wonder if there's a way to breed the firewood, too?:confused2:

I'd say having this virus under control soon is not a sure thing. Here in Lancaster county we have vaccinated 15k out of 550k. I heard this morning that getting more than 30-40 percent vaccinated is going to be hard. So as far as making plans I'd be careful.

Drew mentioned fires, and we're still getting at least one a day here and in neighboring counties. Yesterday there were three, all held to less than 100 acres, quite an accomplishment considering the winds we've been having.

To the south they haven't been nearly as fortunate, with the Santa Anna winds kicking up in the Los Angeles area, and much less rain from the SF Bay Area south. The fires there have been much larger and more frequent; it's fire season year round down there now.

Virus wise, I saw an article where one of the batches of the Moderna vaccine was having an unusual number of reactions, and health officials out here are calling a pause on giving additional doses.:(

Roy, sorry about your wiper, glad you had a spare. And that's why you have a spare...good thinking.
When I replace wipers, I normally buy two sets...just a habit that worked out this time

One of my requirements for moving North/renting a place was that it had to have a garage.
I've done too much of what Roy is dealing with.
Today's trucks and tractors are tall enough it's difficult getting the roof clean of deep snow even with the long brushes.
No more of them for me now, the Audi is small and easy to wash. But if I replace the car with a truck, I need to go get
a pole brush. Pole brushes are old friends of mine after owning a boat for so many years. Yet another thing I owned and was sold off.
I've used a push broom...actually, never even heard of a pole broom. If one is clearing the roof of a truck, better do it before the snow freezes! Good chance you'd break the broom once the snow is frozen.

Oil guy has come and gone...$1.11/L = $4.20/US gallon. #1 coloured diesel.

It wasn't as bad a hit as I thought it would be. This load of fuel actually cost me nothing 'out of pocket', due to a $1200.oo credit.

Charleston SC is my guess

that's what it lines up with...but Wilmington NC might be same distance since the coast bears NE there.
Bermuda is quite a distance out there, at least 600 miles
Lovely island, pretty flowers, pink beaches
reminds me I need to renew my passport.

lot of cruise ship sailings out of Charleston. Next port North is Baltimore. And then Port Liberty across from NYC.
Most of my cruising has been out of the Baltimore and NJ ports. While the most choices are out of Florida cruise hubs, it also means
getting on a plane which I try to avoid. Looking for deals and enticements...
I'd like to cruise to Hawaii, from Baltimore...
that would be a long cruise, might gain a few pounds on that one.
