I built the house myself in its entirety including all the mechanicals
Today I’m helping to install two geothermal heat pumps with a friend..

I also designed and built my house myself, and designed and installed my geothermal system. A few things I contracted due to time. I have a thread on my house build, and am going to add the geo system install to the thread.

I’m on a main road, but put less Christmas lights up than I used to. Just don’t have time, or don’t feel up to it.

Picked up 2 pizzas on way home, don’t normally get them at this place. $20 each with crust overdone. 15 min wait to get waited on due to line, very busy.

.4” of rain so far at 42°

Wife want tree up tomorrow.

Rip, around here the saying is if you last 5 years, good chance you’ll stay. Many, many don’t. Top 2 reasons being too far from family and medical. Parttime would likely negate both.

My oldest sister loved in Honolulu for a year, then moved to Houston for several years before moving back to Ohio.

Interesting thread. I built mine late 70’s. Also a CapeCod with a basement, but mine is completely subterranean. Many other similarities, but I did use urethane foam every where, including under basement slab. Back then there wasn’t much geo either.

Been suffering in just over 100 degF again today. Promised us rain but failed again. :( Can't go outside to work at all. Had to make 3 trips to town today and the Air-con in the car is kaput.

What's wrong with car a/c? You can get fairly cheap new everything on ebay...compressors, condensers, driers, evaps, dash controls....

Just poured first cup of coffee. 36° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 42° with cloudy skies. I have been cleaning up the book collection that my wife had around the house. So many sewing, crochet, gardening, cooking and reading books that I have no interest in. So far I have been lucky to find someone to take them. But the last batch may have to go into trash. No one has offered to take them. That's OK. It's good to see all the others went to someone. Back at cleaning out the last book shelf. After grocery shopping.
Sunset had lots of color in it yesterday evening.

Drew, every time I get some kind of sniffle, headache, upset stomach or other kind of symptom. I start worrying. Yesterday it was a headache. When I did dishes at lunch time. I realized there was no coffee cup to wash. Checked thermo coffee pot. It still had coffee in it. Drank a cup of coffee. Felt much better.

Riptides, someplace warm would be great. Never went to the Caribbean.

David, place looks great. I see you got down spouts fixed.

Alien, wish I could share some of the cool air I have up here.

Randy, I have a 2 remotes on almost every light in my house. Christmas tree is on a timer.

RS, take a break and watch the wildlife more.

Everyone be safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

Try taking them to the local public library.

Prayers for you and your son.

29° and cloudy with some light frost this morning, going up to 52° today.

Looking forward to a three day weekend. Using the last of my PTO days for the year, so this is the only 5-day week for me this month.

It's been almost three weeks now since our chickens have laid any eggs. Starting to get a little concerned.

Lou, our regular delivery guys/gal are pretty good here, too. When my Wife's grandmother was still here, the postal carrier would deliver her mail to the door on slippery days, so she wouldn't have to walk down to the road and back. Our regular UPS and FedEx drivers know where to leave stuff, too, to keep it out of any potential rain. The people they have working the holidays this year, though, especially Amazon, are just leaving stuff everywhere.

Chris, we are starting to see a landslide of closings around here. I've seen five or six restaurants announce this week that they are permanently closing. I honestly don't know how any of them are staying in business. The restaurant and bar business is tough enough in good times.

Makes you wonder how they all survived back in the "good old days" before air conditioning, huh Doug. We typically get some 100+° days here in July and August, and we just stay inside on those days. Hope your heat wave doesn't last too long.

Do you have any heat in your coop? I had to get the warmer going in ours tonight. I should've done it last Monday. Enjoy your long weekend.

The B-25 Panchito has been flying in out of the airport most of the day, must be selling rides, they do that a few times a year. South winds so they are taking off over my back property, love to watch those old birds, and no mistaking those big radials roaring!

#metoo Randy. Me too.

GT80 update: If you remember, the piston was loose in the bore. Should've been .0015" but was .0065". I had a shopping cart online filled, just waiting for payday to order. I went to order this AM and they upped the minimum order for free shipping from $100 to $150, then the piston rings I need (which they had last week), went on backorder. I called a local Yamaha shop to ask if they had any, he told me no, and that he's seen back orders from Japan go as long as over a 100 days....So I bought a set on ebay, NOS. Had to pay about $25 more, but hopefully, everything will arrive in the next week. I want to surprise my kid with the thing running before Christmas. As far as he thinks right now, he thinks it won't be ready until late Jan or Feb.

Scroll work compressor update: The new pulley and belt are working fine. But it has shut down now, on three nights that got below or near freezing. I added more of the coolant, because it was near the low mark, but honestly I'm not sure why it is shutting down. I'm wondering if the cold air/evaporative cooling/ or whatever has some effect. Needs an OBD to plug into. LOL.

Prayers for Bupps, Sophie, LS, and all those in silent need.

Ted, good luck using that 25 percent coupon on something worthwhile, most of the good stuff is excluded...

Went into town to HF and picked up a 15 pc router bit set... used the coupon on my phone and got the 25% off... it was a warrior product (which is usually excluded). After I got home, I remembered (way after the fact) that I wanted to look at a C-saw blade sharpener. So, went on line and found it...
so, placed it into the cart, added the 25% off coupon code.... waalaaa! Discounted $13.75---- ordered it, should hopefully arrive in 5-7 days. They do have an alert on the website stating shipping may be delayed due to high volume.....

I guess I got lucky.....

Nice!!

I put in oil heat with the house build. Boiler still in my basement taking up space. Put geo in 10 yrs ago, I really like it.

Didn't get out to the shop AGAIN today!

We had multiple important phone calls this morning, delaying my trip into town. Then a couple of other things cropped up that had to be taken care of....

Decided to just do a couple of small jobs that I have been putting off... especially vacuuming out the pellet stove. The new ash vac that I got last month worked like a charm! Made the job much easier... Also, not one little puff of ash anywhere! It was well worth the $100.

For some unknown reason, I thought that I was done with the Christmas decorations..... The wifey asked if I was bringing in the tree and inside decorations tomorrow..... DUH !! I wonder when I would have thought of them if she didn't ask.....

Successful run to town as my credit card can attest. Used appliance place a bit disappointing. Had hoped to score a second oven rack, but the attendant needed to wait for the owner to return. Also thought maybe I could score a replacement water valve for washing machine as I await the on order from Amazon. Sadly they wanted as much for a used as I’m paying for new.

Only at home progress I got the internet antenna mast built and installed at tractorshed. 3 28 ft ethernet cables made up and tested, but now out of cable and RJ45 connectors.

My friend decided to vacuum the ashes out of his wood stove about 35 years ago, so we had a warm stretch coming. He didn’t put wood in that morning, later in the day he stirred the ashes and no sparks. He didn’t have a shop vac so he used his wife’s vacuum. He started sucking out the ashes and the air over still smoldering coals way in the bottom, caused them to flare up. He stopped but it was too late, burnt through the bag melted some of the plastic fins on the impeller and generally ruined it.

Good evening all. 28F for the start, mostly sunny, light breeze. Light wind day, mostly sunny all day, and high temp was 57F. Started cleaning lady prep then she called and was no show. Cleaned out some ashes, stoked fire, Grocery run, shelves are stocked reasonably well. bike ride and nap in afternoon, did run fire all day.
Covid update: Cooke 1172 confirmed cases, 178 active cases, Montague 791 confirmed cases, 109 active cases, Grayson 4717 confirmed cases, 403 active cases, local 13 active cases.
Bill hope no one hurt bad and traffic not too bad.
Doug, bad news on the car a/c gone and 100F weather
Drew Has a lot to do with whether people will stay home when sick. Not always happening around here, by passing year end parties because of Covid. Masks help but no substitute for distance, stay home when sick etc.
Thomas I get 6 to 8K per set on the road bike @ about $150+ per set.
Mike porch on back burner? good luck with cars and shopping. No experience on Island life
Phil good luck with storm
Ron we just thinned the herd here as well, went from 4 big book shelves stuffed to 3 book shelves not completely full. Local high school took a lot of them. Nice sunset
Ted hope it warms up to fix the fence.
Paul SEL pilot. I too like to know how things work, plane you were flying has much more capability than any I have flown (C402). Outside decorations are visible from street in front, back not so much but what we do is for us.
Billy sorry to hear about continued feet issues, good to hear about short hike. No Coco?
RNG lots of projects, hope oil pan shoes soon, Super Bowel not far away now. Hope the solar upgrade goes well. And you get some rain!
Ken good to hear Christmas lights up. Hope they weather the storm.
Ted hope family circus does not intrude too much on shop time.
Randy have fun puttering.
PJ nice schedule for December. Sorry to hear about the restaurants closing
RS opportunity rich environment, hope you are able to be productive given your constraints
Randy B-25 has short exhaust pipes and no collector or muffler, more noise for the size :)
Dennis haven't talked wife into tree yet, didn't last year.
Paul, nice house
Kyle hope your order works ok on Ebay, and you get it running. I am puzzled, .006 will give you piston slap, but not hurt compression. Was there something wrong with the old ring?
Ted I have days like that, now that I am not working not so much :) Have fun with tree.
David can be a pain getting parts. You have to order cable and connectors or do you have local source.
Randy I hand shovel ashes out of insert into steel can then let it sit a week before empty.
prayers for all, especially Jay/Peg, Kyle's daughter, David(moss)/remodel, RNG/fire, Ron/hearing/son, Jim/sister & family, Phil/wife's eyes, and Country.
stay safe and healthy you all.

I’d guess (hope) your friend learned a valuable lesson that day.

My plastic fins melted today.... 106 deg F and now at 4.45 pm it is still 86 deg F I got a bit burned in the face and I wasn't out in it for very long.

Friend of mine rushed to Hospital today. Woke up with half vision in one eye. Retina detaching. Happened to my Dad years ago so I know the long term consequences sadly.

good morning all.
woke up to pitter patter on roof, still raining, looks much heavier just West of here, where Popgadget lives.
.76 inches of rain so far and we simply don't need it.
42 out now, only going up to 46 and pretty windy today.
Colder weather coming, I see 23 forecast for Tuesday morning.

My elderly landlady is coming over this morning after I promised her a bird feeder, she was delighted. I think she's really curious to see what I did with garage
and generator install. Also two other friends stopping over, one likely
who has baked xmas stuff I told her not too...not on my low sugar diet at all. But I will smile and be thankful, and then try to feed my neighbors...
Yesterday took some Hale Groves grapefruit to lady across the street, brother sent me a box of 8, had one, absolutely delicious sweet pink grapefruit, but
surprisingly two in box were rotten. So I wrote customer service and showed them a picture of the bad grapefruit and am quite sure I'll get another box sent to me.
So I'll have more to give away... I've used Hale Groves in Florida for many years to send fruit and it's always been excellent, so this was a surprise. Something else
we can blame on Covid?... perhaps not.

guess I'd better pick the place up a little and make it look nice for "inspection"...
but since I've run out of cedar boards can't build anything today so looks like a quiet day.

Roy, you are truly all set, snow tires all around and tractor ready for the white stuff. Must be a good feeling.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend, careful on the ladders putting up decorations.

36 now high around 39 and the weather guessers are still all over the place for our area on snow. Time will tell!

Dump run this morning and not much else planned for the rest of the day.

Alien - every time I see your temps I think of one of the Riddick movies where you walk into the sun and turn to dust. Be careful and stay hydrated.

Stay safe and healthy
Enjoy your day everyone

as if we all didn't have enough health concerns, now those of you who live near major highways have another.
If this chemical will consistently kill fish, wonder what it does to us, what neurological issues it creates.
Another good reason to live in the country...but what about all those farms along the highways?
This is the kind of stuff that makes me, a cancer survivor, just scratch my head saying why wasn't this prevented?
