Good morning!!!!

I can sympathize with those of you who have problems with deliveries. I've just never had that problem. When we lived 20 miles from town, I went into the Post Office to do a change of address card and the lady (turned out to be the postmaster, or I guess you'd say postmistress) asked if I'd like to meet my carrier (turned out to be her husband) and he asked what I'd want him to do if he had something too big to fit into the mail box; leave it on the porch by the door, put it inside thee shop building, take it back to the office, etc. Never a problem.

Now that we live in town, our front door is recessed and there's big tree out front, so anything left around the front door is well protected from the weather. Of course, no one even rings the doorbell; FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc. they just drop it on the porch and almost run back to their vehicles.

Just poured first cup of coffee. 36° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 42° with cloudy skies. I have been cleaning up the book collection that my wife had around the house. So many sewing, crochet, gardening, cooking and reading books that I have no interest in. So far I have been lucky to find someone to take them. But the last batch may have to go into trash. No one has offered to take them. That's OK. It's good to see all the others went to someone. Back at cleaning out the last book shelf. After grocery shopping.
Sunset had lots of color in it yesterday evening.

Drew, every time I get some kind of sniffle, headache, upset stomach or other kind of symptom. I start worrying. Yesterday it was a headache. When I did dishes at lunch time. I realized there was no coffee cup to wash. Checked thermo coffee pot. It still had coffee in it. Drank a cup of coffee. Felt much better.

Riptides, someplace warm would be great. Never went to the Caribbean.

David, place looks great. I see you got down spouts fixed.

Alien, wish I could share some of the cool air I have up here.

Randy, I have a 2 remotes on almost every light in my house. Christmas tree is on a timer.

RS, take a break and watch the wildlife more.

Everyone be safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

I have remotes on all my lamps, but none of the fixtures, and the outdoor decorations. The ceiling fans are remote, but I long ago misplaced the clickers.

Good morning to all! Low of 15, currently 28 at 8:00 am. Should warm up today into the low 40s, the weekend up to 50. No precep possible until late next week.... the area still in "exceptional" level of drought.

We put up Christmas lights outside for the enjoyment of both ourselves and others. The house is on top of a hill and the lights can be seen from a few spots on the major road up to around 4 miles away. Quite a few kids in the adjoining small subdivision, so for their enjoyment also. Way back when I was a kid, my Grandparents had a small corner mom & pop butcher shop. I used to help my Dad decorate the big store windows for all the holidays. I really enjoyed spending that time with him. Putting up lights has just become a "tradition"..... There is also another major underlying reason, but in today's "politically correct" world, I will not delve into...

Today will definitely have some shop time in order. Yesterday's intended time out there did not happen. Partly due to the long term family issue that I mentioned back in early November... it reared its head again.... so far this morning, all is quiet and in order.....

I want to run into town to HF and get a few more clamps, a set of router bits (mine are now probably 35 years old and are showing their age), and probably a few things that I didn't know that I needed!
I didn't want to wait until tomorrow or Sunday, it will probably be too crowded.....

RIP, good luck on your VI house search... that would be nice for sure!

Don, maybe no damage in the garden from the cold? If it didn't stay that cold for too long, maybe not....

UPS and FedEx have been coming here late also... another delivery at close to 9 last night.... driver said he has been out to past 10 every night this week. At least no packages have been left out at the road....

Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning. It’s 40 outside headed to 50 and rain for the next two days. I would much prefer that the rain went somewhere it was needed, we already have standing water in the low spots in the fields.

Yesterday I had a contractor replace a leaking skylight. Of course it was a size that wasn’t in production any more. The old one was an Anderson, new one is Velux that had to be custom made.
It was strange but nice to have someone else do it, as I have always been a staunch do it myself person. I built the house myself in its entirety including all the mechanicals and excavation.
The chosen contractor was someone that I knew well, he asked if he could use my shop to make the trim, and that I go away while he did the job. He did a great job, better than i could have done in my prime.

Today I’m helping to install two geothermal heat pumps with a friend. Should be interesting, the copper plumbing will be done with a ProPress rather than solder, and I have never seen one in use before. He swears by it. I’ll report back.

The airplane has sensors for temperature, pressure altitude, airspeed, and heading. It also gets inputs from the GPS and ground based nav facilities for position, altitude, ground speed and ground track. All this information is fed into an air data computer that calculates the wind speed and direction, head or tail wind component, true airspeed, static air temp and other information.
Hopefully that was not too long winded of an explanation, I often suffer from the delusion that everyone shares my obsession with how things work.

For those putting up outside decorations, are they just for your own amusement or are they visible to passers by? The reason I ask is that I’m at the end of a winding lane that passes through hedge rows and not visible from the road. We decorate inside and a few things outside, but I feel like the Grinch hearing others talk about their decorations.

Ours are visible to the road, and to air traffic, I’m a few hundred yards from the N/S runway. Actually, I’d put them up if only we could see them, I just like to do it. I don’t do nearly as much as I use to.

43° early, much better than yesterday’s 24. Clouds and rain moving in later. Gotta get busy before that.

Have a great day.

Got the xmas lights up finally. A bit of a pain as the ground slopes towards the end of the house, so getting the ladder evened out takes some work with a 20foot fiberglass sliding ladder.
l

I bought a pair of extension ladder leg levelers a number of years ago for my sloping ground and I'd swear by them. I bolted them on an aluminum 20 ft extension ladder and found them very easy to use. I don't remember the brand, but got them at either HD or Lowes. I'll go look at them and see if the name is stamped on them. I have a longer fiberglas ladder and need to get a set for it.

29° and cloudy with some light frost this morning, going up to 52° today.

Looking forward to a three day weekend. Using the last of my PTO days for the year, so this is the only 5-day week for me this month.

It's been almost three weeks now since our chickens have laid any eggs. Starting to get a little concerned.

Lou, our regular delivery guys/gal are pretty good here, too. When my Wife's grandmother was still here, the postal carrier would deliver her mail to the door on slippery days, so she wouldn't have to walk down to the road and back. Our regular UPS and FedEx drivers know where to leave stuff, too, to keep it out of any potential rain. The people they have working the holidays this year, though, especially Amazon, are just leaving stuff everywhere.

Chris, we are starting to see a landslide of closings around here. I've seen five or six restaurants announce this week that they are permanently closing. I honestly don't know how any of them are staying in business. The restaurant and bar business is tough enough in good times.

Makes you wonder how they all survived back in the "good old days" before air conditioning, huh Doug. We typically get some 100+° days here in July and August, and we just stay inside on those days. Hope your heat wave doesn't last too long.

45 and partly cloudy but a good amount of sun @ 13:00, headed up to a high of 46F. Got some good melting going on but a lot of the ground is still snow covered. Headed back into the freezer starting tomorrow.

Hopper feeder now empty, need to refill.

No notification yet from The Depot that new crapper is in.

HF "3 Days Only - 25% Off !" coupon is now active ...

Rewatched Landberg Tile's YouTube reviews of that saw and a couple others. Also a review of the QEP manual tile cutter I was thinking of buying. Seems like the manual mostly work ok, but some clean up might be needed and occasional chipping is possible. Tile saw might be a better way to go all things considered.

Poking around on the 'net I noticed that HD apparently had a Black Friday deal on the RIGID 7" saw that I missed ... bummer ... :(

They have started sending me emails on tile tools though so ... :confused3:

Only major thing on agenda for today is to pump up tires on two wheeler and get tile unloaded from van and brought inside. Might move old stove out as well ... if I can round up the upstairs cats and lock them away to prevent from escaping.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...
