. I still need to do at least one more round of leaf pickup.
Will keep the pellet stove full and burning this week
(It's nice living on the border between MA. and NH. Wish it was on the NH. side

Just noticed I might have to do another leaf mowing,
Have not filled my porch box with pellets yet, so stove not started yet. Got pretty cool last night.
Remember driving thru Athol MA on way to Boy Scout camp in Maine. We stayed a night at a KOA north of Springfield, then took rt 2 across to 495.

Wonder how Jay is doing?

55F and light rain @ 12:30. Winds are howling. Severe thunderstorm watch just issued.

Noticed just a bit ago that looking out towards the southeast all the leaves on the oaks are gone. I guess between the cold overnight lows and the high winds they all came down. That seems kind of unusual ... can remember them holding on until nearly spring in times past.

The Squeak declined to safari in the garage this morning ... acts like she wants to go out but then just stands in the doorway when I open the door and mews ... doesn't like that cold concrete on her paws apparently ...

Finished up consolidating the block off of two pallets yesterday and got the empty pallets moved up to the woodlot next to the pile of split oak. Rain ending today, no rain for awhile and temps heading up to near 60F by Thursday/Friday of this coming week. Several pallets of retaining wall block still out front, will get those moved over to the pole barn later once temps warm back up.

Also refilled hopper and tube feeders with sunflower and cracked corn, stuck another ear out for the squirrels. They had mostly picked it clean by the time I looked out there this morning. Just saw this fella out there, trying to gather up whatever is left:

IMG_0687 copy.jpg

Got water dish for deer cleaned out, required a good bit of scrubbing ... had concrete stuck to the inside of it. Some phosphoric acid eventually took care of that ... Still need to get that set out and filled with water.

Fed all six containers of white worms. They look like they are making a strong comeback.

More work done on squirrel feeders, but not hung yet.

Figured out last night that I mistakenly ordered six lids for Rubbermaid Brute 10G trashcans from Menards ... not the trashcans themselves. Thought it seemed like an awfully good price ... will have to see how it goes as far as returning them, as they are an item they don't normally stock ... Home Depot does stock both the 10G and 20G though ...

Need to place an order for cat food and litter ... won't pick it up until at least tomorrow, after the rain and wind ends.

Considered ordering a Moultrie roll-your-own feeder kit (uses a 5G bucket or whatever) for the deer ... but not sure exactly where I would hang it or whether the coons and squirrels would tear it up trying to get at the food inside. Plus there's the aspect of actually having to go out in the cold and fill it ...

Inside and warm sounds so much better ... ;)

Spitting rain is more than a mist, but less than a drizzle.

I ran into that before, the HD site just showing a 6 pack... but singles on the shelf. Here is a link that I just pulled up from our local HD listing just a single. The price sure went up... last I paid was around $6.

Yeah ... I can pull the link up ... but it doesn't show a price, says it isn't available online, and that there are none in stock at my local store ... :(

No big deal for me as my immediate need is to fill in voids on the edges of the exterior plywood I'm using for the barn owl nest boxes.

Will probably just use Plastic Wood for that, since it's exterior ... but would have been nice to have a solution for interior projects. I'll keep an eye on it and see what develops as far as availability in the coming months.

Now under severe thunderstorm warning as a strong line of storms approach.

UPS just tripped three times ... but only for a second.

That storm had to go through you before getting here RS so thanks for ringing the alarm.

Spitting rain is more than a mist, but less than a drizzle.

By its name a spitting rain is not constant, but some form of intermittent, while a drizzle is usually constant

your results my vary...

all the work done in garage, now after taking a break going back out to clean it up and take some pictures.
Turned each tool on and made sure it ran before sending the boxes back with helper.
then ran generator on a single 30 pound bottle of propane and it ran fine.
ran out of oomph and had to sit down.

our rain does not pizz in the US. That must be an Eskimo term.

Drew,

The winds are still howling here and it looks like it will continue through at least midnight.

Power never actually went off ... but I heard lots of cracks of branches falling and hitting the ground ... thankfully, it looks like nothing close to the house so far.

Glad you are making progress ...

Sorry Don, started spitting rain. maybe a Yankee thing, grew up (Maine) saying it.

Maybe the Northeast, I knew what you were saying..........

got the woodworking machinery placed and set up. Used digital level to make sure tables were level to .02,
wiped all the exposed machined or chromed steel down with some all purpose oil as a barrier against moisture and corrosion.
Which this garage has plenty of. Turned them all on, no unusual noises or vibration, then cleaned up the mess and put away all the tools.
most of assembly was with a compact Bosch cordless driver running an adapter and then a nut socket, the same size of which was thankfully the same
though out several items.

Main work table is height adjustable so I can make changes there if needed. Wanted to stand more upright so higher work surfaces work better for me.
The chair looks nice but has no back support so I'll continue to use the plastic chairs. 12.99 at True Value on sale.

First time I twisted on hose into one of the two vacuum ports on the table sander,
the thin plastic case at the end of the long belt cracked with a SNAP.
You have to be kidding me...
Hard to see but thin white line in photo from top of port to left of plastic. Nice three inch crack but the whole thing is intact.
This will make for an interesting gluing project, might need to see if I can get that plastic piece off the machine as dripping glue inside
a power sander can't end well.
This is a very heavy sander but they skimped on plastic it seems for the belt guard. Of course, I did torque/bend it a little. Not much.
Not enough for snapping sounds...
There should have been more reinforcing plastic near the outlet, build some strength into the "structure" but clearly someone was trying to make this
as thin as possible. Follow the money.
Drill press has dual axis laser and is simply a decent quality Wen drill. I don't need a CNC guided fabricator to drill a hole in cedar boards for bird feeders...
So this will do nicely.

My goal is to build bird feeders and bird houses for all my extended family this Christmas.
I'd better get a move on.
But not tonight...
back hurts, good thing I'm seeing a Rothman surgeon tomorrow for a consult.

Maybe if I get a bird feeder up here, I'll get some bird pictures too.

No storm watches or warnings yet. 65° with south winds of 22 right this minute, gusts over 35. Looks like most of the rain is going to pass north of us, and we don’t need it right now.
Ellen made chicken tortellini soup, very good!
Piddled the El Camino for a while, put away more deck furniture, down to my chair and one more.
Bought a couple of Roku Premium units, got one connected, it’s great, I might get a good antenna and unplug the overpriced cable, between the 9 or so local channels, Roku and online streaming, I’m pretty well covered.

Drew, it is too bad you can't roll some white paint on the walls. It would lighten it up in there.

Just got back from Pet Supplies Plus and Home Depot, winds still blowing ... can hear it inside the house ... but temps were tolerable.

Brought the trash cans in, but will wait until tomorrow when it's light out to bring in the rest of it.

Guy up at the end of the road had one of his pines sheared off at about 2' above ground ... just splintered all to heck. Was probably about 18" - 20" in diameter where it broke. Kinda surprising because it sits in an area that is somewhat sheltered. I guess with the leaves being off the trees, it's wasn't as sheltered. Other branches down along the way.

Road was closed in one place on my normal route over to the Depot.

Got the fish fed and finished up my Shrimp with Lobster Sauce from last night with some fried rice before I headed out, along with some more clean in the basement.
