Today I might try planting some TP, it appears to be warm enough to start that crop. Do you lay it tube side up? Or horizontal with the ground?

Laying on it's side it will sprout quicker. Don't water after it buds.

Seeing just deer on the golf course this morning, it reminded me that you might need a fence around your crop to keep the bears away.

A mostly clear and breezy 33ºF presently which may be today’s low temperature and I anticipate a mostly sunny and breezy day today with the PM high in the mid40ºF’s. I almost fired up the wood stove this morning, but considering today’s anticipated sunshine I decided it’s really not necessary. It looks like I’ll be firing it up most of this coming week.

I have not yet seen any, but I am sure the bears are out and about by now and I have been locking up the bird food and feeders to keep them disinterested. Well this morning before dawn blowhard Brogen decided to make a racket while on tether outside. I thought it might be a bear and broke out the binoculars to see what is so upsetting and as I focused in I discovered it was no bear, nor deer, nor anything else but a windblown 5 gallon bucket from last night’s winds. He beelined to that freakin bucket on our AM walk. St. B.’s are OCD when it comes to change. He’s still off feed.

My tubes are starting to sprout under the lights. Now I need to cut back the lights to 12 hours on/off. I had been running an 18/6 hour schedule. Some growers run 24 hours on, but I think the tube starts need some downtime.

Kyle- + Birthday wishes for your Son. I hope you all have a good time. I am curious about this museum I really like going to military museums.

“… Good safe practices for high risk folks. Everyone please take care of yourself and loved ones. Need New Tractor stories and pix, maybe even some drone or gravel vids. ”- Billy Nicely posted and I support the facility’s attempts to protect their residents and staff. I do not think that many/most the elderly who contract C-19 would survive the treatment of lavage (scraping, rinsing, and suctioning the lungs) and it requires that the patient be alert and conscious which would rule out treatment for those seriously cognitively impaired .

RonJH- I really like your pics thanks for sharing. It was a beautiful sunrise here this morning as well. It’s shaping up to be a great day for the dump run and starting to putter about outside.

“…. I should have bought more beer. I don't think a weeks supply is going to be enough. I might have to venture out to the store. LOL.”- Mike Years ago both my Wife and I were incapacitated by broken bones during the Winter and we had to resort to home deliveries of durable goods and booze. We may do that again if necessary. The requirements for the booze delivery was that the accepting person be 21 or older and sober.

I hope that everyone has a decent weekend.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Good Morning!!!! 45F @ 6:15AM. Cloudy with periods of rain. High 52F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.
Wunderground is still Wonky here this morning; I can hear wind blown rain on the sliding glass door, but the weather radar shows nothing for miles. Maybe it's stealth rain?:confused2:

It would be a good day to hunker down, roll over, and go back to sleep, but I need a grocery run as there's not much more than beer and an echo in the refrigerator. And my dozen count on TP included the ones already in the dispensers.

Sometimes I'm not the fastest to catch on, but now I realize I should have been saving those TP tubes all along. I just wonder how long the tubes will remain viable while in storage? I have a couple of bags of erosion control mix seeds that are several years old I should also have planted, but didn't, and am now feeding to the deer...

I think I've heard of that tank museum, Kyle. If it's the same one, all of their vehicles run, and they usually have two or three out for demonstrations while folks are touring the grounds. I have yet to hear of a museum offering live fire demos, though; now that would be worth the visit!

Dunno what's going on with YouTube on your iPad, Ron, as the videos play fine here on the 12.9 and Mini 4. I've noticed some wonky stuff on the network connections here lately, though, so maybe that's the problem at your place, too?

Checking back on the weather radar, and now it shows a broad swath of green overtaking the area. I guess it's a little slow this morning, too. Hopefully the rain will keep the crowds away at the grocery store.:D

Nice photos, Ron. Those nuthatches don't seem to have any problems being upside down. I'm getting used to it, but I can't say I enjoy the sensation while doing the inversion therapy.:confused3:

Thought I'd spend a few minutes spraying weeds yesterday morning, but once I started looking around, it was clear I was behind the curve in that department, too. Took two hours to get through three tanks of glyphosate/pre-emergent, the last of the RM43. This time I used the wand instead of the boom, went slower, and used a higher concentration. In the areas where I used the wand before, it seemed to work better at keeping out the weeds. But it also seems that when the weeds are so thick, very little reaches the ground, and the pre-emergent doesn't get a chance to work. So after the burn down in those areas, I'll get out the Preen and play Johnny Appleseed.

The rest of the day was spent screening dirt for the first lift covering the electrical conduits, then getting the rest of the trench filled with whatever came off the pile. The first part involved a LOT of shoveling, shaking the sifter, and then more shoveling to get it into the trenches. By lunch time, I was really starting to worry I couldn't finish the job, as Mr. Back was not at all happy and my butt was making a third track I was so tired. There was no bread in the house for sandwiches, so I satisfied myself with half a breakfast burrito to eat. I don't know what was in that thing, but it gave me enough of a boost to finish. Previously, I'd been sliding the sifter back and forth on the wheelbarrow, but the hillside was much too steep for the 'barrow. By happy circumstance, the frame of the sifter also fit over the bucket on the FEL, so I just ran the tractor up to the dirt pile and started shoveling and shaking. For some reason, it took a LOT longer to fill that bucket than it did the wheelbarrow, but I could also bury a lot more conduit with the resultant product. And the further up the hill I got, the narrower the trench got, and I could cover even more with each load. With that first layer in place and walked on, I just used the FEL to fill the rest, not compacting like I did for the runs under the generator and propane tank slabs. It was still somewhat exciting working that steep slope and trying to figure out how to reach across the trench and back drag the spoil on the far side of the trench back into it, but I somehow managed without killing myself. It was a fine feeling to get all the way to the top and back on level ground, and then be able to slowly wheel roll the fill dirt and at least get a little compaction that way. We'll see how that fares in the rain, as forecasts are now showing showers almost every day through the end of the month. Thank you, David, for turning the sprinklers back on in such a timely fashion!

I'd better get a move on if I'm going to beat the crowds in town, so here's hoping everyone enjoys their weekend!

Sounds like you guys are getting the hang of the whole retirement thing. I'm coming up on my 10 year retirement anniversary next month, and I can't even imagine finding time for a part time job. I can't even figure out how I found time for a full time job back when I was working!:confused3::confused2::laughing:

Good morning! Sunny day so far, but allegedly going to rain later.

At work, we have a small group that shares assorted humorous items via text messages. Many are not fit for public consumption. But, got this one last night that made me laugh. And I can share it!

Good morning to all! Low of 33, sun is peeking through some spotty clouds. Rain gauge shows just under a 1/2 inch. Temps today will be a little cooler, only reaching 56. Tomorrow back up to mid 60s.

I finally got through all the appts for pre-op. For some reason, I thought the surgery was next Friday.... it is in 2 weeks.... that’s ok.

We need to get to the grocery store but are procrastinating to go until Monday. That might be a bad or good idea, depending on how you look at it. There might not be anything left.... but there might not be any crowds....

RNG, now you did it.... I could not stop thinking about more gravel.... I cannot do shoveling though.... If I start driving the tractor heading your way, I should be able to get there in about 3 weeks... hopefully that is not too long a wait for you....

Drew, I hope you heed your own warning.... no heavy lifting today! Take it easy at a nice pace.

Kyle, have fun with your son today and pass on happy birthday wishes to him!

Wng, nice loads of firewood. That represents some hard work for sure!

Hopefully it will dry out enough outside to get a few things done. The neighbor got his mower from Betsco yesterday, so that will be a project for sure. FedEx dropped it in the middle of his front field, I am guessing where they backed the truck to turn around. He does not pick up his new tractor until Monday, so I will get mine to retrieve it. Then more fun assembling and greasing!

Everyone have a great weekend!

I have, so far....thanks. Helper did all the carrying but I've been on my feet too long and can't stand any more so I came in for a break, after giving
helper long list of things to do. Got about half the garage done, rest I have to do myself like sort through paint cans and figure out what to keep.

Maybe this afternoon I'll plant some flowers. They are jumping up and saying Plant Me!

made a trip to dump while I had helper, the pollen is super heavy, came in and washed face, get the stuff out of my eyelashes. Very sticky gold stuff.
Ah choo.

Roy the M&P 22 my wife got is very smooth out of the box but she has range lesson to take first and learning how to take care of

I assume you're writing about the handgun and not the rifle. My Ruger SR22 was also a very smooth little pistol right from day one...great little shooter and I hope your wife's M&P is just as good.
BTW, anyone looking for a .22LR pistol...always suggest you get a threaded barrel, if available. If you ever decide to get a suppressor, you'll be ready.

I cleaned and lubed my little Kahr CW380. A bit easier to rack the slide and release the slide release... Way too mucky to drive down (or even walk down) to the field to put some rounds through it :(
This is a picture off the internet, not mine. I'll never think this is a "fun" gun to shoot, but it'll be mighty handy for warm weather pocket carry

Always seemed to me the smaller the gun the harder it was to aim, normally
so I'm assuming a laser sight would make a small gun much more effective.
Just get the dot on them. Unless you are going to try to shoot someone through your pocket like
they always show in the movies, with remarkable aim too...

my phone has been going off from the City of Washington alerting through their system about now this park and this Library are now closed,
until further notice. Things are shutting down. Like after a heavy snow. And a flood of emails from everyone including the bank concerned for my welfare.
Garden Club shut down, this outing and that outing cancelled. So I'm getting notified to death...I bet you are too.

out to plant dahlias and zinnias, maybe a snapdragon or two. Slowly and on my knees in the cool earth. Life is good.

67°F and .34 inches rain. Hope wx allows me to work on the catchment install. Could be challenging working on gutters if raining

Nice gravel RNG. Looks like what we call 3/4 inch base.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

That's true about aiming, but these little pistols are really for up close and personal work...more likely to point shoot rather then aim.
I have lasers on two...a Ruger SR9 (full sized and sighted in at 6-7 yards) and a Kahr CW9 which is a bit bigger then the .380 model. The SR9 is not carried too often...more often the CW9 and, once proven to be reliable, the CW380
BTW, you can shoot a revolver through a pocket if absolutely necessary. The confines of a pocket would, most likely, prevent a semi-auto from cycling.
CW9 (9mm) top...has laser sights, CW380 is the lower pistol

I'm back from North Bay. I went early and things were quiet, but the hordes of lemmings were just coming into town as I was leaving. 0 clorex wipes or any other wipes except for baby wipes and very little TP, but I got what I went for.

I'm done for the day outside, got flowers planted, ready for tonight's rain.
Nothing thrown out of wack, fun day outside.

Roy, I've been studying some of the videos on pistols using non lethal ammo.
We still aren't there with a decent stun gun, you'd think someone would make a decent non lethal gun or device.
I know we have tasers, which I don't think I can own,

I've been reading sci-fi for too long, they had stun guns when I was a kid reading Heinlein.
They usually have three settings, stun (say for ten minutes), severe stun (nighty night) or lethal.
Awfully hard to make the right decision at the right time. Something any LEO deals with every day.
And any of you who carry arms. One of which may save my life some day in a public setting.
And if you are unlucky even yours. I can really see why folks who live near wild pigs, coyotes, mountain lions, you name it,
you don't want to be caught out alone in a bad situation with one. Me, I'd like to stun it, not kill it. Wonder if they make bear size...

grill should be hot enough now, have some Bubba's veggie burgers to throw on for a late lunch.
They were a little more expensive but look pretty good.
Have been burning the crud off and it is time to get cooking.
