Good morning all. Another night of rain and more rain. :confused3: Only occasional showers for the rest of the day, with wind rising to the 40s and 50s.

Eric are you having way more rain than normal, and how is the flooding?
I don't know what the official figures will say, I can't think of a wetter and sunless month than this February. Those temporary barriers that were struggling to hold back the river Severn a few days ago did buckle, but they held well enough to get through the peak flow, which the environment agency estimated as 500 tons of water per second. It dropped enough next day for them to be able to change out the damaged sections. With all farmland saturated, it is sure to surge again as these last two days of rain come through. Hardly any farmers have been able to plant the usual winter crops.

Rick, only a magician could do a better job of making a burn pile disappear.

Thanks for helping the rest of us more fully appreciate how the phrase "Mad dogs and Englishmen" came to be, Eric!:laughing:
... "Go out in the midday sun"
What midday sun ? or any sun ? - oh that's so cruel RNG.

I attribute my sometimes lack of seriousness to a bad dose of flipancy-itus that I caught while growing up.;)

Now how's this for a little "right back at you"? There's a lot of talk these days about the high cost of health care, much of it focused on the high cost of research needed to bring new drugs to market. Much of that expertise exists in the US, and the two largest efforts to develop a vaccine for Covid-19 I believe are in the US. Now I wonder who's going to pay for that research? If the private sector pays, the cost of a dose of that vaccine is apt to be rather high. If the US taxpayers pay, people will scream we're being taken advantage of by the rest of the world. So why don't we let the Chinese pay; after all, it was their poor health and sanitary practices that led to the virus crossing over from bats to humans.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has 6 main centres for influenza

Melbourne, Australia
Beijing, China
Tokyo, Japan
London, United Kingdom
Atlanta, United States of America
Memphis, United States of America

There are lots of other international efforts going into this sort of thing too by many commercial companies. For example, the main UK vaccine producer (which exports more than is used in this country) is part of a Swiss pharmaceuticals giant.

When a pandemic comes along, we all pay one way or another. I wouldn't get too worried about a few tax pounds or dollars paying for the fundamental research to try and keep things in check.

good morning all.
31 out now, only getting up to 49 today.
Not going to be working outside.

yesterday was challenging. Took pain pill at 2am to help me through the epidural process where I have to lay on my stomach, which is very hard on my bad back. Says take with food, which I could not. Oh boy...got out of car at pain clinic and promptly started dry heaving into their bushes. Utterly nauseous, nothing came out, nothing was in there, so waited until that was done and went inside, sweating like mad. Was taken back to procedure room and started retching again. Nurse thought I was having a heart attack, but thankfully not. For sure no procedure under anesthesia feeling like that, so had to reschedule. Just not having a lot of luck here.

However...when I got home I got a call later in day which for sure improved my outlook. They say it's not what you know but who you know, and an old friend of mine from Pa, who sadly has Parkinsons, was doing research for me at UPenn in Philadelphia for back surgery. Turns out he is highly connected there, and got me the names of the two top neurosurgeons, including the dept. head. He is calling them on Monday (knows how to bypass phone system) and will confirm who I should talk to. UPenn has very good reputation and the doc that did my neck ten years ago is still there. So I see some good progress there.

Helper not coming today, sick with something, and we both agreed it was too cold to be out if one didn't feel well. So both of us are going to take it easy today. I need to be in top shape for trip to Chapel Hill Monday morning for ear.

I'm genuinely getting sick of seeing doctors but what choice does one have...

one of local hospitals is restricting visitation to age 12 and over. Probably going to see a lot of that soon.

If a big warmup is coming, yeah.
Hope you all have a good weekend.

Good morning, -5°F and going to 14. Wind NW 7mph. 40% chance of flurries.

The North Bay trip was another boring uneventful trip. The slow lane on Hwy 11 northbound was wheel track bare in spots, damp to wet in others and the closer to NB we got the lane soon became dry. The left lane, well not so much. both ways it was frozen hardpack. I ran at 65 mph going up and 70 coming home. (The horse always runs faster when it is headed for the barn.)

Today I get to plow what I didn't yesterday. The windrows ought to be fun and not in a good way.:(
Cutting out the windrows now is still better than braving NB traffic on a Saturday.

That is my day in a nutshell.

Have a good day all

Morning everyone! Currently 20 going to 28ish. Look's like high 40's to low 50's coming up next week. Nice!

I've been trying to keep up with all the post. Hope everyone is improving health wise. Lot's of nice pics on the ongoing projects. See a lot of concrete and dirt being moved.

Lot's of snow melt going on here. Very unusual for February! Hopefully March won't change our mild winter.

Been to numerous doctors visits and have 3 or 4 more coming up. Poked, prodded and stuffed into more machines then I ever want to see again. Hopefully a positive diagnosis will come from all this. Feel pretty good right now so I'll take it.

Wishing everyone a safe and healthy future!

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 15ー with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 33ー with some sun in afternoon. Last day of daytime temperature in 20's and 30's. March is going to be a welcomed with warmer temperatures. Need to clean up shop today from various projects. Still have a collection of unfinished projects laying on one of the benches.
Checked my supplies for flu and C-19. Got enough mask for about a year. Hand cleaner for a couple of years. Hope I do not need any of them.

Drew, sorry you did not get the epidural. Hope you feel better.

Phil, seems like lot of us are going threw the Dr. visit routine.

Eric, had to check to see what the UK definition if for "flipancy-itus". Yup, same condition here in the states.

Looking, stay warm.

Mostly, anesthesia is what I thought. Like MRI 2 weeks ago. It took more than a day for my stomach to get back to as normal as it is going to get.

Randy, overslept here also. But nothing pressing to get done today.

Jay, good to here PV is back up and running.

Good Morning All.
