No deaths were reported among mild and severe cases. The fatality rate was 49% among critical cases, and elevated among those with preexisting conditions: 10.5% for people with cardiovascular disease, 7.3% for diabetes, 6.3% for chronic respiratory disease, 6% for hypertension, and 5.6% for cancer.

what I learned poking around is that many of you with beards would have to promptly shave them off to allow masks to work and if you or someone you know has an existing serious medical condition, Chinese flu may push you over the edge. Those death rates are scary. And most masks should not be reused from one day to the next, unless you can wash/disinfect them. The prepper community is posting a lot of info online.

I have a current model Israeli Army gas mask with two radiation filters, if they don't work, unlikely anything will...

Good morning. It's 26° and clear here this morning. The high winds finally abated so .. we'll see about 60° this afternoon. A very nice weekend is in the forecast, going back to the mid 70's again. The yard and pastures are frost covered this morning.

Don ... glad you had a safe trip. The ultra-deepwater drillships, we built in S. Korea yards, were all constructed in "Blocks" then assembled in the huge dry docks. Its a very standard procedure that ties up dry docks for a shorter length of time.

Eric .. burned porridge is not a good start for your day. Maybe .. you can borrow RNG's demolition hammer?

Ron .. hope your endoscopy goes well.

RNG .. all the concrete work makes MY back hurt for YOU.

Hope everyone has a great "Friday Eve".

Prayers to all.

What is the minimum spec for a respirator that will work? How about the ones for paint and fumes?
would be nice to have more discussion on this, I think a lot of us need to be educated.

See this video for an example of what medical researchers use when working with live virus. There's also an educated guess about where the virus came from, and a less than optimistic prediction about the future.

RNG .. all the concrete work makes MY back hurt for YOU.

Thanks, Rick, but I think my back already hurts enough for BOTH of us!:hissyfit:

Hard to say if the inversion therapy is helping, but I don't think it's hurting, either. Or maybe not hurting as much as it would without it. I'm also taking a prescription anti-inflammatory drug, and again that's probably helping. But I think what's helping the most is hydraulics. I used the side-by-side yesterday to move the mixer into place, and to reposition it so I didn't have to move much to get the concrete into the holes. The bags were stacked in the bed at first, then when I needed more, I put 'em in the bucket on the FEL and parked the tractor so it was right next to the mixer, at a convenient height so I wasn't having to bend over and lift the bags more than once. I also think all this activity is helping to get me in better shape, and maybe even lose a few pounds, so there is an up side.

Good morning! 25˚F a bit colder than predicted. The trail blazers start the final make ready of the trail we cut in the Fall. They will be wider and mulched and free of rocks and little stumps that are tripping hazards. We want to minimize the "I've fallen and can't get up" occurrences.
Heard last night that my SIL's company canceled their annual Spring cruise from Galveston because of the C-virus scare.

Is anyone changing or amending their vacation/travel plans this year?
Bermuda cruise still planned for early May, fingers crossed.

Remember the mask will only help prevent you from transmitting the flu, it will not stop you from getting infected with the viruses.
this opened my eyes. What is the minimum spec for a respirator that will work? How about the ones for paint and fumes?

N95 Respirator is 95% effective.

And wear protective gloves when removing it from face.
Also you must be clean shaved for it to get a seal.

Speculate the stock to go up as this is recommended for health care workers.

Rick, driving home from Galveston yesterday I was surprised to see so many bluebonnets blooming on Hwy71 just North of Columbus.

Good morning to all! Low of 31, going up to 48, sunny. Continuing warm trend through the weekend.

Quote “ Ted. what will you do with no wind! BTW how are your knees holding up? “ - - Mostly...
The bad knee is status quo... still hurts, still swells. Actually feels a little better when it swells. I “ learned “ to tolerate it, allows me to do some things for a couple hours anyway. I am finally scheduled for surgery on March 27th. I really hope this is the end of this situation.

Ron, our Kassie saw the picture of Sassy and now insists we take her to the groomer this afternoon!

RNG doing concrete.... WOOHOO! I bet David is jealous....

Drew, I get amazed every year when you have plants coming up in February....

Jay, you will be chopping ice in April.... Brogen is definitely not as cute as Sassy... just sayin....

Not sure of the agenda today... It was too cold yesterday for the plumbing project yesterday, so maybe today. I tried spreading some gravel, but I got chilled to the bone in about an hour, so gave up on that,...maybe today. Did not get to work on the cabinet doors,... maybe that...
Too many possibilities... I guess I will just have to pick one....

Everyone have a great day...

25°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 46° today.

Most of the snow was already melted buy the time I got home from work yesterday. Just a little remained here and there. I did notice while rolling the trash can back from the road that the north side of all the trees still had snow on them. Found it picture worthy.

Our Purchasing Manager at work noted earlier this week that she has been having trouble sourcing alternative suppliers for the Tyvek suits we use in the paint booth on our powder coat line. Apparently, that's another one of those things being affected by panic buying over coronavirus fears. She said one supplier told her they were looking at potentially a six month backorder for them. Crazy.
