Drew ... if I can do a task with tractor hydraulics ... that's my preference over another gasoline engine to maintain.

Yep about 90% of our trees are oaks. We have a few hundred cedars but, I'm slowly getting rid of them.

I considered getting a 3 point splitter, but with only one tractor, and using the 3pt lift to carry rounds and the FEL with bucket or grapple to carry more rounds or logs, decided to go with the gas engine model.

Thanks for the moth ball tip. I had forgotten. I'll buy some.

Good morning 30's and rain today.
Not much planed today with the weather other than mopping floors after every trip outside with the dogs they always seem to find the mud.
WNG I can sympathize with you and skunk problems although this has been a skunk free year (knock on wood) I had problems in the past. When I went through K9 training we were told the best way to clean and de oder the dog was with Massengill Douche, Honestly I didn't know a dog handler who didn't have a case of it in the trunk of the police vehicle and from personal experiance it works. But I have found white vinegar and water work just as well only doesn't smell as good lol. Just need to be careful around the dogs eyes.

I need to hook up the 3-point log splitter and prep some wood for our outdoor fire pits. I ordered a replacement 24" x 1/2" hydraulic hose that goes between the control valve and cylinder and will get that installed as well. I built a stand for it so, all I need to do is get one of the tractors close enough to hook up hoses to tractor remotes.

RNG ... maybe you can see light, at the end of the tunnel, on your van? What's the old saying? I see light, at the end of the tunnel ... hope it's not a train!

So far, Rick, most of what I've been doing has involved replacing old, worn out, parts, or fixing bad workmanship or defective parts installed by the ex-mechanic. If there's a light at the end of the tunnel, it is that most of what's left involves new parts that I'll purchase and install myself. I'm not saying there won't be problems, but they'll be my problems, not dragon eggs left behind by someone more careless than me.

Speaking of the ex, I still haven't gotten an itemized statement of what he thinks I owe him. I've been asking one for over a year, and I have no expectation I'll ever see one.:confused2: But I have been putting together a detailed list of the problems he created, and it seems it gets longer the more I drive the van, and the more I look into what was done.

That looks like a good solid splitter stand, too. But one of the things I'm very happy with on the Airens is the height of the beam. I don't have to bend over at all when I'm splitting in the horizontal position, except when I stack the splits on a pallet. Makes for a lot less back pain, though that's usually the reason I only run through one or two tanks in a session.:2cents:

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 7:45AM. Partly cloudy skies. High 67F. Winds light and variable.

I'll add looking you up in the Daytona pits to the things-to-do-and-see list on that eastern trip, Rich. I think that would be a blast!

Bodyman neighbor came over yesterday with the biggest tire I've ever seen off a pickup truck, his son's 4WD Tacoma. It was part of a set of four he'd purchased, and the tire's sidewalls were split in several places. He needed to get it off to hammer out a dent in the rim, and replace the tire. Well the thing was so wide it barely fit in my tire changing machine, but between the two of us we managed to make do. One bead busted off easily, but we had to go all the way around the other side until we found a spot that would let go. As we were finishing up, the fella with the gravel was rumbling down the driveway, so the timing was perfect. Spent the rest of the day replacing the wooden shims under the shipping container with aluminum ones, then building ramps on each end from the 3/4 minus road base. Used the tractor and a tamper to pack it down, and it seems very solid now, but I have to wonder if the ramps'll stay that way when they're saturated with water. Guess I'll find out over the next week or so, we're expected to pick up a couple of inches of rain.

More seat time today, with some grading and then spreading out the new decomposed granite, which looks like coarse golden sand. It'll be nice to get the charcoal covered up, and the scraggly areas that I tried to turn into lawns.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

I’m still experimenting with final height of the stand for comfortable loading of rounds, I’ll then build a real stand of steel that I can firmly attach the splitter to and be able to move it with pallet forks as well. I think I’ll put it on the 3-point hitch, one more time to determine most comfortable working height.

Edit: what ever I build for a steel stand... I want to retain the ability to swing the splitter vertical as well.

68°F and 1.54 inches rain. And raining.

Be safe
Have a great day

Today's low temperature was 28ºF @ midnight. The snow started in the wee hours (~2AM), by 4:00AM the temp was 30ºF and there was 1.25" of accumulated snow as the sleet started to mix in briefly before the precipitation activity started to slow down. The mixed precipitation has since picked up slightly. Temperature = 34ºF presently; probably close to today's high temp. A hot coffee and a fired wood stove kind of morning, Another nap in my easychair by the wood stove listening to more football blather kind of afternoon.

Bruce- Thanks for sharing. I am happy that you had a good ride and time with fellow cyclists. I could spend a long time sampling those 100 taps.;)

BEF- I do not like instant replay at the college level.

" Jay, football, UM of meets OS next weekend. Lots of rivalry."- RonJH That should be a great game. I am glad that PSU beat the point spreads yesterday. With a 27 wins against 2 losses by history PSU should beat Rutgers next week, but Rutgers can give PSU trouble.

Billy- Good luck with the skunk

"... Instant Pot country ribs for dinner tonight? Rick That's a nice looking wood splitter and stand. Your planned dinner reads to be great eats. Tonight I am making Cajun smothered steak. This is a meal for people who love black pepper and really warms one up which is nice this time of year.

"... mopping floors after every trip outside with the dogs they always seem to find the mud."- DABSGT Mopping floors is almost a daily task around here.

RNG- I hope you have a good day on the tractor and you continue to see precipitation.

David- Happy birthday. I wish you many more trips around the sun in health and happiness.

I hope that everyone has the Sunday that they anticipated.

My + thoughts and prayers

J and all up north in the weather, stay warm! Expected to hit 68F today and maybe 80F tomorrow here. The fireants are coming out to join the party.

BEF- sorry your HS team lost. Our team is playing a team loaded with talent this week, so it will be an uphill miracle if they win.

Happy Birthday David! Glad to hear the task load is low now.

Cowboys vs Patriots....pretty sure the Pats will win, but would like to see a change from the norm.

City is having citywide Thanksgiving service at our church tonight. Good chance to fellowship with members from other congregations.

Mostly, 6:35 in the seat is a long ride on a motorcycle, having to peddle is twice as hard. Hope you had a tall, cold one for your efforts.

That's exactly why I got an electric splitter (which Kyle has now) and sold my never used 3point splitter.

My mom thought moth balls would be good to get rid of ants, wrong, that is poison your breath, had to air out the house.

70˚F clear skies, going hiking.

Just might split a little myself this afternoon if I can get the tired BS1250 to start. Had to use ether a few times, just a little, likely the carb
is getting unhappy. I put a lot of Sea Foam in it so once it gets running, it clears up and purrs. I can't pull like Wngsprd, arms can't take it,
so it had better start in five or six pulls. Of course it sits for quite a bit, and there's no primer on it so takes a while to suck the gas through
it. I spray the ether into the air cleaner foam filter which always does the trick.

Starting fluid seems to act like steroids. Works marvelously for a short while but seriously bad on you if overused or for too long.
Using ether on diesels is another story and that argument has definite sides with strong opinions. Some tractors even came with ether can injection
built in. Modern tractors seem to deal with the cold much better.

Happy birthday David!

Had a busy day, church, visit mom, meet my daughter for a Christmas drop off, pick up dog and go look at carports, then to lunch/dinner, great flounder! Then a run down just across the Virginia line to the Food Lion to get Fordhooks. You can buy all that stuff like field peas and crowders in Virginia, but not Maryland, even though a lot of Maryland is further south than some of Virginia.

Pretty day hung around 50° most of the day, but very breezy, 42° now, .69 “ of rain overnight.

Looking, so many interesting cars. I never understood why the big 3 automakers branded some models differently in Canada. Do they still do it?
I am not sure. I do know that for years we couldn't get a Dodge Pickup unless it was branded FARGO. Same truck, different name. Ford and Meteor were the same way.
leased a 1998 Neon
how dependable was that car? I always liked it but apparently it liked the service bay too.
I had no trouble with mine. None what so ever and I drove the snot out of it, mostly highway driving. It was the 'sport', twin overhead cam, 5 spd with cruise control that I seldom used. I like to think I broke her in right. Chryco said 3000 kms varied speeds and engine rpms. I saw the odometer turn 3000.1 kms and it was out of 4th and into 2nd and redline 2,3,4 then looked at the speedometer and slowed down. I was doing 160 km/h or 100 mph. Not bad on a 50 mph road.

Eric----"LS, I thought you were downsizing, that looks a very generously sized garage"-----

We have downsized....the garage is my son's....he is buying "the big house" from us. We had subdivided the land, and put our new cottage on the adjacent parcel. When the subdivision was done, the original garage ended up being on the new parcel.

Attached is a pic of our garage.
