The bears hibernate in the Winter, and sometimes I wish I could hibernate in the Summer. I hate hot weather, and right now it's 98 degrees. The low this morning was 78.

$275 and I'm now the proud owner of a new rear window glass. Now the hard part ....... installation. But first, I need to clean up all the shattered glass inside the cab. Good job for my big shop vac.

The hard part, on installation, will be handling the weight of the glass itself, to get gasket / seal installed and get it bolted to the frame. I believe the glass weights nearly 70#. It took two of us to handle the box the glass came in and it would fit inside the rear seat area of my F-350 crew cab. It would just barely make it height wise but, it was about 3" too long to close rear doors. So it came home lying flat an a big piece of carpet in the bed. Anyway I hope I can get a little help from one of my neighbors.

RNG ....... you mentioned your preference for an open station tractor. While I was at the NH dealer, picking up the rear glass, the sales manager walked in. He had two black eyes, a splint looking deal over his nose, and a large bandage over his right ear?

He was cutting around some big oaks, over the weekend, on his open station NH. He caught a pretty good sized limb with his vertical exhaust pipe and when it broke, it snapped back and hit him in the face. It broke his nose and nearly ripped his ear off.

Think I'll stay with cab and get my trees limbed up.

Sorry to hear about your window, I am actually surprised at the price, some of the cab windows must be made of gold.
For handling glass I like the suction cup grippers for bath tubs,
a couple of these or similar work nice.

Im surprised cab window so cheap. They wanted $600 i think for polaris glass windshield. I think my plastic one was $300.

RNG, I'm trying to see what your jack shaft or half shaft looks like?

These are the jack shafts. The stubborn CV joints are on the right ends, I was able to get the CVs off the left ends with only a minor wrestling match involving a big hammer and a drift.:confused2:


These CVs are all one piece that includes the splines that drive the front wheels.


This circlip drops into a groove in the shaft when the tabs on the circlip are as shown. Supposedly, moving the tabs apart expands the circlip, forcing it into a groove in the ID of the CV and releasing the shaft from the CV. Seems to me, even with the circlip in the position shown, I should be able to drift the CV along the jack shaft enough to cause the circlip to bind, but I've been unable to move the CV even that far. Just received a 10 ton porta-power, so I'll maybe give that a try tomorrow.

Good evening all. 79F for the start, mostly clear, light wind. Wind was light to moderate until t-storms arrived, mostly clear until t-storms arrived, and high temp was 97F. During t-storms, very windy, temp dropped to 73F, and radar estimates about .3 to .5 inches rain. Men's meeting to start the day, then several hours of carp removal from lake, followed by nap. Carp removal was done by hiring boats that are set up to electrically shock fish to stun them and netting the carp and drum. We did this procedure too late this year, most fish had moved to deeper water, and the fish are not stunned as long in these temps. Will repeat next spring, will be able to remove far more carp. Biologists says with this many carp in lake, that they are eating too many of the more desirable fish eggs, so not seeing as many juvenile fish as we should.
RNG need to know if the bottom of the retaining clip is moving out of the shaft groove, have that issue with some of the circlips.
Not sure about brazing the frame, typically used in a different style joint where you have one tube inside the other, instead of the butt joint. Material is 4130 steel not the hardest to weld but heat affected zone can get brittle if not processed correctly. If I have to go that route I see a paint job in my future
Rick, sorry about the rear window, at $275 they are proud of it, Hope install is uneventful. I stayed with open station as well, and when transitioning from 8N to Ford 1700 with upright exhaust, had to limb a whole lot higher

Good morning. Uncertainty in the weather means I'm not sure what I will be doing today, other than yet more ragwort pulling. The yellow flowers of the ones I missed earlier are starting to show above the grass in the hay fields, I need to get them out before they go to seed.

Rick, the oak may have won that round, but at least you lived to tell the tale of how, instead of being squished against the steering wheel. Impressed at how quickly you managed to get replacement glass.

RNG, Like you, I'm have to work on a slopes, so one of the most important issues for me is not tipping over. How wide the wheels can be set was a big factor in choice of tractor, there can be quite a difference between otherwise similar manufacturers.

We have a sensor outside to detect when a vehicle pulls into the yard. It has been going off way too often, so I thought I would change the sensitivity switch setting, only problem was I couldn't get into the cover - some insect had filled the 4 screw holes with their very effective home brew sand and cement substitute.

73 degrees this morning, going for a high of 93. And as mostly_gas said, a little storm went through here yesterday evening around 5 p.m. NWS and the TV news said we had winds up to 77 mph in my little town. I was a bit concerned about the trees around here. And my gauge got a bit more than .70" of rain. I don't think we have any damage, but at least one person had a big tree fall on his car, and a lot of people had power outages.
