Drew sounds like it is time for you to start looking for land farther north.

Ed, I never really wanted to leave, but I couldn't afford a small farm in the area I lived, it had gotten so expensive there. Everything was well over a million bucks.
Plus I wanted to go slower, and life is slower here. No crazy drivers, drive to town and not get behind another car. I grew up in a small town
and I really like this. Very few sirens.

But yes, my life's memories and involvements were up North. I went from knowing everyone
to knowing no one. It just takes time. My joining the Garden Club should help.
Am looking to cultivate a relationship.

Time for some yogurt and strawberries. And maybe I'll start on the other bag of potatoes to cut up while it gets warmer outside.

Ed, sorry you feel awful, plus the load of responsibility never ends. Tell them they have to wait, unless they too want to get very sick.
I think all of us would like to help you in some way.

34 going to 50 today, a very mild two weeks forecast. Me and two cats laying here being lazy, one cat wants my spot after I make the bed, better get moving!
God bless you all, Ed if you have flu listen to the doctor, you can’t help anyone if you’re dead.
Prayers for the knee, the stubborn dads and all the other things going on.

23 with a high of 28. 30% chance of flurries. Wind W 10 mph.

We got about an inch of snow overnight. I am not going to plow due to the freezing rain coming. I have enough ashes for me and my neighbour who just got back from an operation. She is supposed to take it easy and no heavy lifting for a month.
I will send Junior over to deal with her stoop.

I may check over the taxes today and see if I missed anything.

Have a good, safe day all

Tractor is plugged in and the snow shovel is warming up. I'll heading out in a couple hours.

Good morning everyone.

Phil- 4.75" of light fluffy snow fell here overnight. Clear, sunny, and a decent wind ranging 5 - 10 mph, gusting to +15mph. It's blowing the snow around. It would be futile trying to shovel off the deck or pathway to the car until the wind calms later = another cup of coffee. My T/H sending unit has ceased functioning. I do not even know where it is.. The wind must have blown it away somewhere.

BEF- If competent or at least "close" all Dads seem to do something aggravating to their children. I spent a couple of months down in FL to keep home based services ongoing. He threw the VNA Hospice nurse out of his house calling her "The Angel of Death." To his end he refused Hospice services.

Wngsprd- Bluebirds are a rare sight around here, but the # of sightings has improved over the years. Our bluebird houses are usually inhabited by tree swallows. I have allowed an attractive bluebird environment to develop around here in my woods and boundary areas.

Daugen, Ron, Randy- There was a huge demand for those Saint B's. I got an application in before they stopped taking applications, so at least I will be notified if I am "On the List." We both hope that we are. Rescues are far cheaper to get than from breeders: There is one 3 month SB available now and a litter is expected in March by "local" breeders. The breeders around here are pretty responsible about aggressiveness. All the kennels around here (NE) reportedly home raise their dogs with their families.

Ed- I am happy to read that Mom is transferring to a Rehab facility. Those health care professionals badgering you for a "personal appearance" are doing so because of the regs. Hold your ground on this. You are too sick and truly incapacitated by whatever "flu/pneumonia" with which you are dealing to do this. It's crazy to even think about allowing a sick person to re-expose the recovering patient to a potentially new and more deadly pathogen. Pneumonia is the main cause of death amongst the elderly. It may be ugly, I have seen some nasty telephone calls between the patient advocate and the patient when it comes to this. Your Mom has to have a "Licensed" Social Worker assigned by Medicare requirements. They must be an "honest broker" on your behalf. Get the SW involved. A lot of them feel themselves to be "overworked" due to "burn out." For professional and personal experiences I suspect that many SW's got their licenses out of some Crackerjack box. Good luck with Mom and the "professionals."

300G- I believe that is the norm. Then some breeders got real stupid and allowed aggressiveness back into the breed. I forget how many generations of breedings are needed to modify "stuff" that St. B. I saw at the rescue was scary mean. I do not scare easily. I am no crunchy granola eating tree hugger even though i live in MA; some animals need to be culled from their population. That includes humans

The sun is pretty intense today. Today is the second day of the National Audubon Society's annual bird count. We have been doing this for +25 years. We are having low bird counts due to our empty feeders while we were gone. The #'s may pick up by Monday, the last day.

Have a good one everyone... I am off to staring blankly out the window drinking coffee and trying to count those birds. Low bird counts are extremely mind numbing. I do enough mind numbing as it is.

LS not posting is concerning.:( I hope that he is OK. If one does not take care of their own body; their body will ultimately take revenge and "take care" of them ; the results are usually "not pretty." I learned this the hard way. It took a lot of lesson's. :embarrassed":(

My + thoughts, prayers, and wises for all.

Good morning all! Had a better nights sleep last night, found the only position for the knee w/o pain is fully extended out straight. Can't lay flat on my back to sleep because the wife says I sound like a band of chainsaws cutting enough trees to make a village! Actually woke myself up a couple of times before she told me to roll over :confused2: normally a side sleeper, couldn't find a way to be comfortable. Apparently I stole all the blankets, she went to sleep in a spare BR. I woke up stuck, rolled up in all the blankets, bed all pulled apart. She told me this morning we're getting twin beds....have to be nice today:laughing:

Jay: good luck with getting a couple SB rescues. We have always liked SB's, never had one. We always say..ooh, look at all the drool!..then change our mind. I'm sure they are big babies!

Ed: get well soon! Make sure everyone slows down, don't let them push Mom too fast, takes longer for the older to get better. More than a few times I've had to treat /transport patients back to the hospital because they became ill again, worse the second time around.

Drew: don't push it too hard, if you damage something (remember no zerk fittings), you won't be able to take care of everything. Glad to hear the "A" is working great!

For all those needing prayers..they're on the way! Stay warm, be safe, and have a great day!

Kind of warm this morning 33*. Yesterday was nice, but for the 20-30 wind. The winter storm watch starts at 9:00 am MST it goes to noon Monday. We might get up 18 inches. Not to bad outside now except for the wind. The high will be in the upper 30's.

Didn't get the project done yesterday, I got sidetracked with trying to add to it. And gave a ride to a neighbor that parked his truck at the bottom of the hill because of the coming storm. He snowmobiles down to the truck when he goes to town.

daugen... I tried last week to get a pic of three moose down on the river bottom, but I had to many coats on to get to the phone in time. All the deer and elk have moved down.

Hope everyone starts to feel better

Spring must be around the corner! Saw a flock of mountain blue birds this morning. Had to be around 40-50 of them. Gorgeous bright blue. Birds are tearing through the seeds, refilling the feeders about every 2 days. High today about 64*,wasn't too cold this morning, only down to 39*. Birds will be "freaked" come Monday night into Tuesday, few inches of snow expected, high of only 33* on Tuesday. Temp swings this time of the year get spread out, not unheard of to have 50-60 degree difference night / day.

Wife knows me all too well. She knows I'm going crazy not being able to get outside and start my project. She is in cohorts with my son, made plans for us to drive up to Colorado today.....surprise! At least it's mostly highway driving, don't think the knee would take much clutching / shifting. I have to drive however, if I don't and she drives, it will turn into an overnight trip! :D Probably is still easier than starting to frame a building like I was planning. The brace is definitely helping, hurts like H**l when I take it off though.

Thanks guys for sending prayers my way! (Especially need them if the wifey drives today)

I still have my "immobilizer" around here.

LS- How long did they say that you'll need the "immobilizer" brace?

Take care with the rehab. Why do I suspect this will be a "challenge" for your wife and PT/OT staff?

I blew my right knee out. At some point I went back to work driving my Honda CRXSi. I could clutch&brake easily. I used my left foot & cane on the gas. It took some coordination which I now lack. I had to go to PT/OT "pain&cane school". Hot Tip: They make a flip up/down cane "crampon" to go on the tip of your cane. It is well designed and it really works well on ice. I could also use it to stab trash and debris in the yard.

When I went back to work with my cane. The students at the school where I worked told me that "I look Pimp." I should have gotten a fancy fedora.

LS- Seriously good luck with this and please try to take it slow. One way or the other you will "slow down" ultimately.

I was told to wear the brace "during awake hours". Earliest appt I could get with the ortho doc is Wednesday. I'm sure he'll schedule an MRI, then a follow up. About 2 years ago, I tore a rotator cuff lifting a 550# patient, ortho doc said surgery, I said no. He said injections, I said no. Did PT 3 x a week, 2 1/2 months later.. good as new. I drove the therapist nuts, I would always push it too hard, had a setback about week 4, but it all worked out. Learned my lesson the hard way! (As usual).

Well the Mrs is giving me the look.. Need to get on the way to Colorado... Talk to you guys later.

LS- Thanks for sharing. I had a similar pattern. Pain is a great educator. Good luck with the drive

All the snow clearing is done, including a path to the road to the field. My neighbor's Gator is still down there (about 3 weeks so far, I reckon). I didn't clear a path down the road...not sure if my tires (R-4s) would make it back up. It's not that steep, and I probably would...just not going to chance it. Anyway, if he can get to the top of the road, he's good to go.... As far as the path...there's a good 10" of frozen snow on the lawn. It bogged the 4520 down more then once and I was in 2nd Low.
So, the work is done...now some computer time and maybe some of the Olympics.

67°F and no rain since midnight. Still wet from yesterday though.

Went to local concert, The Makaha Sons, with a bunch of friends last night. Group formed in 1976 and been thru a number of iterations due to deaths, Iz and his brother and other personnel changes and only one original guy left but music still awesome.

Stay safe
Have a great day

Just got back from Dr and he is saying acute bronchitis and likely the flu. I guess that is enough. Got a Rx for a Z pac and an inhaler. Hope they help. Thanks for the prayers guys. Ed

/ Good morning!!!! #70,860
Ed- FYI for possible future need and use: Most inhalers have expiration dates on the side of the vial. They really become ineffective after that date. I am glad that it was not pneumonia. Those Z pac's work quite well. good luck.
