Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 5:45AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Sunny. High 76F. Winds ENE at 15 to 25 mph.

Winds are howling outside this morning; lots of crashing and banging going on with stuff on the back porch. Red Flag fire warnings up until this evening.

First Vegas, now Tom Petty. Another Wilbury crosses over. When it rains, it pours...:frown:

Got the right side pushrod tube seals replaced yesterday, and the left side apart and cleaned. Found a through hole in one head for the valve cover stud cracked. Smoothed it up and applied epoxy to seal it, hopefully it won't require a weld repair to stop the leak.

Ron, what kind of things can you use that metal lathe for?
I bet you took mechanical drawing in high school and were hooked...?
Do you use a digital micrometer a lot with that?.
I did take drawing plus wood and metal shop. I am a toolmaker by trade. But spent most of my working years doing infield troubleshooting all aspects of the machines the company built.
Can turn just about anything that is round. When I first bought the lathe I did custom threading for rifle barrels to firing mechanisms. Later was racing go karts. Made custom parts for the clutches and axels.
Still make parts for tractor and other equipment.
I also have a Bridgeport milling machine. Let’s me make just about anything that will fit in the machines. The are not big machines and take longer to get job done. But I can do it myself.
I do not have a digital micrometer. I am old school. I do need a magnifying glass to read verniers now.

64° and cloudy this morning, going up to 82° today. Chances of scattered showers expected through Saturday. I hope they are more than just scattered, as we really could use some rain here. The ground is like asphalt.

Hard to imagine anyone didn't know about The Traveling Wilburys, Roy. Talk about a super group.

When it's still this fresh on everyone's minds, it's often hard for people to see a perspective like that, Eric. Emotion will most times cloud that logic. 50+ dead is a big number. Unfortunately, that happens about every 3 months here in St. Louis, with a murder about every other day. Very few seem anywhere near as appalled about that. Most of it is black kids killing other black kids in poverty-stricken inner city neighborhoods. I don't understand why that's any more acceptable than what happened in Vegas. We seem to have a serious problem in our modern world with respect for the life of another. Fixing that will not be easy.

70F and sunny @ 11:15, high today of 80F.

Heard on the weather yesterday evening that we're experiencing the driest summer on record ... worst since 1872 or something like that, ever since they started keeping records. The well is still functioning ok ... but we've been careful not to place too much demand on it at once. Guess that points to it being a recharge rate issue.

Spent most of yesterday moving wood chips (and eating dust) Have most of it done, just one pile left to go.

Have so much firewood at this point that I decided that I'm going to just burn all the smaller, odd-sized pieces and use the ashes in the compost pile ... as soon as we get some rain so I burn it safely.

Managed to get the Simplicity running again yesterday. Has a periodic problem where starter drive does not want to kick out and engage the flywheel. Shot some PB Blaster on the shaft and let it sit a couple of days and that freed it up. Good to have that back in the fleet.

Shop called last night and said the wife's car was done, so we ran out and picked it up. Noticed on the way home she has an intermittent tail light ... so I'll need to see if I can figure out what's going on there. Ended up being a different model than what they originally thought, so it took a different O2 sensor and power relay for the ECM (and there was only one relay, not two) ... so it was about $70 cheaper than what they had originally estimated ... which was a bit of welcome news.

Probably spend today finishing up moving wood chips.

46 and 76 later. Dryyyyy.

RS, good to see you back here.

Got several little things crossed off the list yesterday...today may be a repeat.

Bow season opens Saturday...man is it getting harder to pull that bow each year. Acorns are falling.

Looks like our last hummingbirds are gone for the winter. Haven't seen any since 9/30.
Thanks ... good to be back.

I haven't seen any hummers here for several weeks ... I need to take down the feeder, clean it out, and put it away until next year.

70°F and no rain

Brush cutter needs a bit more attention before I lend to neighbor.
PO items came in late, so I retrieve today. The USPS tracking system could use some work.

Be safe
Have a great day

Hello All!

Finally broke down and bought a new laptop and got it setup enough (so far) to get here... Still got stuff to do to get back to 100%.

Be well all!

Doubt if too many folks remember (or even heard of) The Traveling Wilburys...

I remember them quite well.

45-75 today. Low humidity, feels great.
Washed my house, decks and garage yesterday, that 1:8 bleach/water mix in my power sprayer does so much nicer job than the old power wash method, much quicker also.

Good evening all. Been finishing up the wiring and drywall around the door in the pantry and started muding. Not good at it but it will be good enough for inside the pantry. Wife is getting moms room ready and cleaning her bathroom so I hope to finish that Wed.

Ron, About half way through my senior year I started thinking about the Navy Machine Shop School, until I found out about the math requirements. Math was my week spot so... i have been dreaming about lathes and mills ever sense. Got a 6 x 18 craftsman lathe but have not finished fixing it.

Drew Thanks about Mom, hope so too.

Have a good evening. Ed
