Good morning!!!!

Rick,

Here's a pic of the soil screen frame with the 1" screen on it:

I actually made an error in my previous description ... the 1" screen has the most 2 x 4's in it ... looks like one every 6" O.C.

I think I did that because I was going to be using it to screen stuff that had some pretty good sized rocks in it and felt it needed the support.

Looked at the gravel screen yesterday (buried behind stuff in the barn) and I think the spacing was 12" O.C. rather than 6" because there really isn't any large rocks in it and I can control the rate at which I dump it.

You can see some of the grass/weeds that gets caught in the screen.

Here's the results. The screened pile in the foreground is about 5' tall and 10' in diameter:

The pile in the background has been through the screen several times and still has a lot more in it that could be sifted out. The majority of the screened material isn't any larger than probably 1/2" to 5/8" generally.

The frame that the screens sit on was built from 2 x 2 x 1/8 wall square tube, 10 gauge sheet, and a couple of pieces of 3/8" x 3" (?) x 6' long angle for the two runners on the bottom ... plus a few short pieces of 1/4 x 2 bar stock to keep the screens from sliding off. The 10 gauge is probably overkill ... 12 gauge would probably be fine ... but it should hold up long-term. (Same deal with the 3/8 angle runners ... 1/4 probably would have been fine)

Based on my experiences using a wooden frame for the base (and having to rebuild/repair it a number of times), metal should be much more durable ... particularly if you are going to move it.

Will try to get a few more pics. Let me know if the have any questions.

Thanks RS, very informative. Biggest question is how did you determine the angle of the screens?

Good morning all, 61 now going to 66 with 100% chance of rain. Nothing planed today except same as always. Need to mow but it is already raining and looks like a wet day.

Drew, Stay safe and enjoy your trip.

Bup, 262 mph, that is crazy! Can't even get my mind to understand a wind like that.

Randy, Just remember the love and good times, Praying for you and your Mom.

Praying for Texas.

Have a great day all, Ed

Good morning! 69˚ high clouds. They say it is heading up to only the mid 80's but with full sun this afternoon I don't believe it.
All the Chimney sealing liquids have arrived so I can put Mom's leaky chimney on the list, along with her yard which needs mowing and the fallen huge limb from Harvey, and get Dad's tractor battery recharged or buy another.
Randy we are going through the same with Dad now it is heartbreaking. We just need to keep them as comfortable as possible.

A pretty morning after strong storms overnight, more today they say.
Again, thanks for the well wishes. Don, I hope you and your dad can enjoy the time there is left.
Drew, take care, the rest of you have a good day.

50°F and clear skies this morning, going up to a whopping 70° today. I actually turned on the heater in the car on the way to work (I justified this by noting that the windshield needed it to stay clear :D).

Neat screen, RS. I made a mini version of one for my Wife earlier in the summer by lining the bottom of a plastic milk crate with 1/2" chicken wire. She used it to sift the dirt out of the old landscaping lava rock we removed around the old basement walkout porch before it was torn down and rebuilt. Worked great. Never thought to take a picture, though.

The low this morning was 44*, yesterday high was 84*. Today is going to be about the same. We are getting some smoke from fires, it's not to bad yet.

Wishing everyone with family health problems the very best.

The neighbor didn't get the trench dug yesterday. Ended up moving gravel, and a four hour trip to town to get a flat tire fixed on his skid steer. Think he worked on it last evening could hear the beep, beep of the excavator tell it got dark. I'll go up and see this morning.

Think I'll work on the deck cover today. It won't be long tell it snows.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Thanks guys, your thoughts and prayers mean a lot. Mom was weaker today and I think the end is fairly close. I told her tonight if she was tired just rest.

Randy, have you brought in a hospice nurse yet? They can tell when her time is near.

For the first time in my life, I hired a lawn mowing service after having my right shoulder replaced on April 24. When I asked the doctor how long it would be before I could do the mowing myself, he said, "The standard answer is 6 months, but I know some do it sooner." I went to physical therapy 3 days a week, then 2 days a week, and now one day a week. Yesterday was my 29th session and the therapist said 4 to go. I'm getting a double session each time; one for the shoulder and one for a supposedly pinched nerve in my back that causes problems with my right leg. Anyway, I had no problem mowing the yard this morning, so I reckon I can cancel my lawn mowing service.

Of course 56 degrees this morning when I started and 65 now sure make a difference.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 7:45AM. Sunny. High around 90F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Went to brush my teeth yesterday morning and had no water pressure. Flipped the cutoff lever on the jet pump pressure controller back and forth a couple of times and the pump came on. That controller is only a year old, and the last one was replaced for the same reason. I always thought SquareD controllers were the best, but after this, maybe not?

Local BMW motorcycle dealer had both parts I needed to get the old bike back on the road for this weekend's campout, so I'll swing by there today while I'm in town for groceries. They're one of the few that still keep a large parts inventory for the older bikes. Shouldn't take more than an hour to install and test the new ones when I get home.

The sky clouded up at around five o'clock yesterday afternoon, and thunder could be heard growling off in the distance. Got a couple fingers of Bourbon and took a seat on the back patio to enjoy the show. Big, fat raindrops pitter pattered on the metal roof, the first since last June. Soon it was coming down so hard and making so much noise I couldn't hear the stereo anymore. Only lasted about five minutes, though, and then tapered off to nothing. Radar said another big cell was headed in, but it either missed or Petered out, leaving a total of only 0.04" in the rain gauge.:grumpy: Not enough to help with the wildfires around here, and in fact several new starts from the lightning were reported. Good progress was made on the Ponderosa fire to the southeast, with 75% containment and all evacuations and road closures cancelled. If these south winds hold, we'll even get some relief from all the smoke, too.

Happy Hump Day, everyone!
