59 high of 82 later low humidity today and tomorrow before the heat comes back. Some places on the east coast may see 100 degrees several more times before fall actually arrives. The changer comes in early to mid October probably in the form of a strong east coast hurricane. Lots of rain for mid Atlantic and Applachia areas.

Texas to get something tropical around middle of September New England and Canadian border to receive come cooler weather thanks to cold fronts that never make it very far south

Drew sorry about your hand

Ed you have a great day too!

Sodamo safe travels

51 right now with a bit of fog. High is upper 70's and clear.

Mowed yesterday and did some trimming. I'll finish trimming today and mow the field. I also need to get the backhoe rigged up. No digging required, but the 'hoe settled in the soft ground we have here...even with cribbage under it to spread the load. Not sure if I'll get to that today though since I do want to get to the field and do a bit of shooting.

Drew just plant a post in crete and epoxy the turtle to the post.

that's a good idea Ed, thanks. What had been fun was moving them around, having them "travel" in different directions so the elementary
school kids in the busses could be entertained. That was the whole point anyway. This was an adult that did this, not a kid. A simple low down thief
who is likely exercising their disturbed vision of class warfare. My little farm is kind of the nicest place on the street and human nature sadly means
some of the have nots will go after the haves. Too much passing traffic for a game cam.

Some of those turtles cost over a hundred bucks a piece, really nice replicas. Well, most lasted almost two years out there and that frankly amazed me; then someone
truly got their number and thieving hands reached out. And they came back for the last of the good ones... Hey, if they are going to throw food and beer cans on my roadside, I guess the higher performing dirtbags have upped their game. Lot of meth being used and sold around here; no surprise there is theft going on. My house, however, is covered by three cameras recording all the time, writing over once a month. So I'm not worried about the house, but the end of the lane sure seems to be fair game.

I like to think kindly towards folks but my turtle thieves are sure an exception.
And that's all the mental energy they are worth, onward to better things.

buppies, congrats on the sale

Thanks Drew really did not want to sell it but just sitting there going downhill from lack of use is just plain dumb on my part. Might use the money to finish the inside of my pole building or add 12 more feet in length or width as the case may be.

When we first moved to the mountains the previous owners left a canoe which we used on our pond until one Saturday somebody wanted it more than we did. Crossed the fence walked 1000 feet to where it was and took it. Last Christmas someone stole two wreaths we had on our gate.

My parents when they lived in a large lot neighborhood had problems with their mail box getting destroyed almost weekly so we being steel fabricators by trade had the shop build one out of 1/4 in steel plate the kind that rusts slightly so it never needs painted. That lasted about 2 months until some gentlemen decided to run it over. The mail box survived the car not so much. Police woke my father up at 2:00AM to let him know what happened charged them with reckless driving and their insurance replanted the post. It was encased in concrete three foot deep. Wish when I sold the house I would have kept it

Buppies, many folks around here have gone to steel plate mailboxes...we've had ours knocked over or banged up a few times...none in the last few years until last month - I'm pretty sure a piece of farm machinery hit it...it was day time, and discovered soon after some big hay hauling equipment passed by. Hard to understand someone stealing a canoe by carrying it over 300 yards and a fence. Maybe they got a hernia doing it...karma.

Wanted Dead or Alive...Turtle Thief.

The TBN bus has picked up the NC and VA hungry members and is heading to Frederick, MD for cookout.

RS, good to read you posting again...missed your many project updates.

Mostly, are brakes on road bikes good enough to slow a bike down going that fast without a lot of fade? Sure would not want to wipe out at that speed. Would this be considered "extreme biking"?

On a road bike like that the brakes are usually rim brakes and are effective although at the speed that guy's going it would take a while. I have found that the hydraulic disk brakes on my mountain bike will put me over the handlebars very quickly (get that; hydraulic disk brakes on a pushbike) I could never get anywhere near the speed he is traveling at.

Might want to call the dump first...when I was writing my post, I recalled seeing a sign at the Bethel/Royalton dump that they'd be closed on 03 Sept. for the holiday weekend.

Our dump was open but the lawn mower dealer was closed...tad strange.

Hi all. 4 day weekend in Montana. Took the 2 year old granddaughter and wife to the Glacier National park for the day.
Talk about scenery and views! Beautiful. And water so clear in the lakes it seems unbelievable.
Two more days with her and then off to Oklahoma for a week or so. Then she and Nanny go to Vermont while I return to finish this project. I'll sure treasure this month.

I think the Post office at home has my magnets and led work lights at home but not sure. Amazon sent text as undeliverable since I have a PO box but I usually find my presents there anyway.
I turned 53 yesterday and had some time to contemplate how quick it has gone by.
I rushed through the first half. I plan on catching the moments on this half.
Harrumph. Nuff of that. Off to look at an old Oliver vise for sale on The local Craigslist.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Storm is still off the coast, but farther east than predicted, sun and clouds and around 70 after a low of about 64, 77 later today. It was so nice and cool yesterday that I leaned into the wind and went into my shop and worked on my hitch. Changed some things and am well under way now. Glad I mowed on Friday!

Happy Birthday Lenny. I've never been to Montana, but sure would like to.

More prayers for Betty.

Time to head to church.

slow day on this thread, everyone OK?

I feel like I went 10 rounds with the bushhog and the PTO shaft. The shaft got stuck on the tractor. I could get it to slide back and forth maybe 1/4" but couldn't get the balls to come completely out of the retaining groove. I took the shaft apart with just the front half hanging on the tractor. Then I took off the protective cover off of the tractor. Next I took off the spring that you pull back on to remove the shaft. I had just used the bushhog the night before so I knew it wasn't rusted tight. After removing the tractor's protective cover, I could get a little bit of angle to tap it off with a hammer. I noticed the shaft had some metal "pushed up" on the splines keeping the balls from riding over the small hump. Got me file out and cleaned up the shaft, and took a small brush and me water hose and cleaned off the seal around the shaft on the back of the tractor. It was quite dirty, but no oil seepage. It turns out that the slop that I had thought was the bearings in the gearbox was the slip clutch pinch bolt was not holding the slip clutch pressure plate tight. Also, it does need 2 new clutch linings. Which is much cheaper than the bearing stuff.

The poor bushhog needs some 1/4" plate welded to it as it has rusted through in a few places. Shame on me for not blowing it off and waxing it properly every usage. It has never spent a day under a roof, so what used to be red, is something akin to RNG's parts wagon.

Have a great night folks.

Good morning, 59°F from Berlin. Light rain a bit earlier but hoping for a dry day.

Doing a guided Segway tour later this morning to get an overview of the area. Maybe get lucky and sight a tractor :)
Already had that first schnitzel and bier.

Be safe
Have a great day.

Good morning, do you ever get to the end of a day and wonder where all the time has gone to ? My plans for today are almost identical to yesterday, as I seem to have got almost nothing done on Sunday. I remember getting my welder out to have a little play with some new faster freezing rods at about 10:00am. Other than occasionally getting called inside to have a meal, the hours then simply disappeared, it was soon dark and time to pack everything away.

Does this time swallowing property apply only to welding machines, or are there any other toys (sorry, make that tools) I should be aware of, that shrink hours into what feels like minutes ? At this rate, my time practicing for retirement will be over before I realise it.

Wngsprd, interesting to see the wide variety you can grow from seed so late in the year. We have some spinach still to sow and that's about it for this year.
