Coming back through town I saw a guy behind a walk behind mower that I'm surprised hadn't caught on fire
it was smoking so much. It might have been that extra quart of oil put in, or it might be the quart of oil that should have been
put in...

I'm surprised you saw anything through that cloud of smoke, Drew. He's either getting one last use in before the mower goes to the junk yard or doing mosquito abatement!

He was cutting at the edge of the next street, and I went by on that side having to turn around the block, pulling the trailer no less and I was so
amazed at how much smoke was pouring out of that thing I just had to stop on the other side and take a picture. Should have taken one when I was closer.
You know little engines can smoke if you put them on their side too long, but usually that burns off. I'm guessing a stuck ring or simple way overfilling with oil, making
a really nice fog machine. Talk about pollution. Not an environmentally minded operator for sure. Honestly, I saw him up fairly close driving by and the first word
that came to my mind when I saw the inquisitive look on his face was clueless. Clueless but determined.

I just checked the soil temp in my garden 4" down. It is 118˚. I have had a piece of plastic on top of for 30 hours and trying to get to the magic 125˚ (for 6 weeks) to kill all weed seeds. Kyle what temp are you getting up to?

60 right now...heading up to about 90 and maybe some rain.
Going to pick up my Ruger 10/22 Takedown this afternoon. I'll either try that out when I get home or do a bit of mowing...maybe a bit of both.

Electrician said he'd be out tomorrow. Wires are only discolored where they touched the insulation. But I want a second opinion.

Very sensible to have any suspicious wiring checked out.

Not sure what type of insulation you have, but I have heard of some PVC cables being degraded by being in contact with expanded polystyrene. It is said to cause the platiciser to migrate out of the cable sheathing, eventually making the cable brittle.

Of course the common problem with any cable enclosed in insulation is that it prevents heat escaping, so then very easy for the cable to overheat.

I see MossRoad created a Show Your Targets thread in rural living. A first group from your new 10/22 would fit in well there Roy, if you have the time.

You could also try a little trick shooting too. I saw this picture of Kirsten Weiss in a somewhat unusual shooting position on a target shooting forum yesterday and thought it may appeal to you, knowing you like rifles ;)

Good morning all. Sorry if I caused anyone to spill their coffee by posting that last picture. :)

These last few days I have been screwing up my eyes in this bright sunlight, so yesterday I took a trip to town to order a pair of glasses with shaded lenses. No doubt by the time they arrive next week this lovely summer weather will have departed.

Thanks to a certain gentlemen in Texas, the trip to the opticians took twice as long as expected. As we passed a coffee shop, I felt a sudden irresistible urge to go inside for a slab of carrot cake. I am sure it was not as good as the special recipe version, but still sufficient to correct the previously undiagnosed cake deficiency in my diet.

Good morning all. 65 and going to 93 and 20% chance of thunderstorms. The electricians came yesterday and that ended the dump run for the brush and the other things I was going to do. Pleased with the install and the coverage. Everything is covered that we need and then some. We could go for a couple weeks with no real problems or even much inconvenience. Wife and I wimped out on the blacksmith workday, to much going on and way to hot. Hope to get to the dump today but mother in law is supposed to come today and who knows what else.

Have a great day Ed

geez I'm starting to sweat in sympathy. Going to try to do all my projects this morning, hot here too.
Let's everyone be careful in the high heat.

Headed over to Ocracoke Island, Outer Banks, directly East of me, on Sunday, taking the two hour ferry ride each way.
Never done that before and was time I did. Having lunch there with friends.

68 going to 93 and sunny.

Eric, are you sure you were are on target shooting forum...or your other favorite site :)? Glad you are getting some summer weather.

Mowed most of what needed it yesterday after my haircut.

Our resident blacksnake had a big bulge in its belly...we are hoping it's not our equally resident chipmunk. Time will tell since they both seem to like to hang out on our porch. I was given strict orders to be careful mowing since a few years ago I ran over a blacksnake. This year I've run over a box turtle while mowing one of our trails...that made me very sad...last year it was a bunny. I do watch where I'm going, but there are times the grass gets up 6 or 8 inches, and that's all it takes to hide these small creatures. The next day they are always gone...so I guess I'm making the foxes happy.

Heading over to the local canoe store to pick up a truck bed extender today...a nice aluminum one made in North Carolina...should help carry our 2 kayaks in the bed of the truck - mine sticks out about 4 feet past the lowered tailgate and this rack fits in the hitch receiver to support the rear of the kayak. It can double to carry long lumber.

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 75° with a few clouds this morning. Heading to 93° with high humidity and thunderstorms. Got .05" rain when thunderstorms came threw yesterday evening. No outside projects today.
Yesterdays project was another fail. After removing all the stuff on a set of shelves so I could get at electrical box. Found the box only has place for 2 220 volt circuits. Off to Lowes to get a new 100 amp box that will allow more 220 circuits. I need them for welder, Bridgeport and new 50 amp RV hook up. My shop and garage has 10 20 amp receptacles. plus 2 lighting circuits. Each with it's own circuit breaker. While I seldom run more than 2 tools. I don't have to worry about popping breakers.
Good Morning All.

75 this morning and headed to 92 today. Nice big line of thunderstorms headed this way. See if they make it.

Waiting on electrician. Take care of birds and cows. Then take wife to the doctor. She's counting down the days now.

Eric. Wires are romex and insulation is paper faced fiberglass. The paper is black and stuck to the wires wherever they touched it. 14-2 with a 15 amp breaker. So they got that part right.

Good morning! 73˚ heading to 101˚/ heat index 105. Eric my last batch of carrot cake had a new flavor added, a nectarine. I think I'm on to something.
The Bluebell ice-cream company down Hwy 290 in Brenham always comes out with different flavors I think I'll do some experimenting with my carrot cake/muffin recipe.

"This brand new flavor from Blue Bell will have your taste buds two-steppin? Cookie Two Step is a creamy vanilla ice cream with hints of brown sugar, combined with chunks of chocolate cr鑪e filled cookies and tasty chocolate chip cookie dough pieces."

Beware Drew they are expanding to you, to sabotage your diet: What's New at Blue Bell

Drew, my cousin's kid (another cousin story Ron) who works for Bluebell, and an Aggie engineering design graduate, redesigned the machinery to correct the problems with listeria. He is also a very good welder and installer so after he designed it he was asked to install it. He was getting tons of overtime when other were being laid off. Anyway my cousin now says his son assures him there is no more problems, so enjoy.

For all of us that have had our lifetime limit of animal products the plant based craze is moving to hospitals in Texas.

Wonder what black plastic would yield?

Actually clear plastic is better for penetrating heat gain - "Plastic material: In general, transparent or clear plastic is most effective for solarization, as the heating rays from the sun will pass through the sheet and be trapped to heat the soil below. Usually, black plastic is less effective because it absorbs and deflects part of the heat rather than trapping as clear plastic does. "

Good Morning! 62F @ 6:00AM. Sunny. High 97F. Winds light and variable.

The reviews I've read on the Takedown say zero is unchanged by the process, but I'd be curious to see what you find, Roy. Fun testing for sure!

Farmer, was the copper also discolored? A shiny gray color is a good sign that the wire overheated.

Got an email about 9AM yesterday from the title company that is handling the sale of my Mom's house. It contained an attachment consisting of many forms that had to be signed and notarized, but all of which had to be read and verified for accuracy. One, which conveyed title from the family trust in which the house is currently held to the new owners, listed the home's value as $10. Yep, that's right, ten dollars! So I called the title company and called the error to the agent's attention, and was told that state law in Ohio prevents them from listing the actual price, and that's how everybody handles it. I asked her if this was a legal document, and she confirmed it was. Then I asked how it could be legal when it contained blatant errors? But it was either sign the document or escrow would not close, so I hope I didn't just give Mom's house away for ten bux!

But the fun was just beginning. My local BofA branch has free notary service, so I made an appointment using their web site so I wouldn't have to wait in line. I arrived fifteen minutes early and was spotted by a clerk that I remembered as being rude and not very customer service oriented, and was told by her that the bank didn't have a notary public and hadn't for over a year. And further, that NONE of the other banks had one, either! I explained to her that the BofA web site advertises that all branches have notaries, and that the appointment request I'd made earlier that morning had specified my need for notary services. She just shrugged her shoulders and walked away. As I turned to leave a young manager caught up to me to apologize, confirming that the branch indeed had no notary, but that he'd missed the appointment request and would have called to advise me of that fact. Nice of him to say that, but this is just another screw up in a long series of screw ups with that bank. Each time I say it'll be the last and I'm switching, but I think this time is really it. I ended up at a UPS store that not only had a notary public, but also copied the signed documents and started the envelope on it's way to the title company, all in one stop. But that convenience cost me thirty two bux for something that the bank used to provide for free.

There was better news at the mechanic's, as he was happy with the grinding I'd done on the cylinder heads. He was hoping for more than the 2 ccs of volume (43 cc to 45 cc) I'd found, but said it could be compensated by increasing the valve relief cuts in the pistons. So I'll get those knocked out this weekend and run the heads back to him Monday so he can get started putting the motor together.

Mr. Trump was making his acceptance speech on the radio on the way home, and he seemed to have something for everyone in his bag of promises. The disturbing thing is he seemed to think he could deliver on all of them all by himself. As in "When I'm sworn in on January 20th, 2017 I'll do such and such!" In spite of our current President's proclivity for expanding his reach by circumventing the law, it's hard for me to imagine how effective Trump can be when he will have to fight not only the Democrats, but his own party to get anything done. But maybe that's the best reason to vote for him, as in my experience keeping big gummint hog tied so that nothing gets done has been the safest mode of operation.

77.2F and overcast @ 10:00 ... a high of 92F and a heavy thunderstorm predicted for today.

The thunderstorms that Ron got a little rain from yesterday petered out before they got down here.

Spent all day yesterday driving a large Makita angle grinder with a 14" diamond blade in it, cutting concrete floor ... probably cut 35' or 40' of floor, which absolutely just kicked my butt. Floor was mostly around 5" thick ... better than that in some spots though. Was surprised at how well the saw cut, at least at the start ... by the time I was finished it seemed to be cutting a little slower though ... or mebbe I was just worn out ... :D

After that we loaded most of the drywall I had cut out into the van on three pallets. Need to remove the MMM off the B2910 this morning and stick the loader and pallet forks on and remove all of that this morning before it gets too warm out. Then back up to the center this afternoon to get the rest of the dry wall (garden), a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood (possible barn owl boxes ... :D), metal studs (scrap metal pile), and fiberglass insulation (more insulation for the attic).

Will take our Shop Vac up there while I'm at it ... as there's a chit load of concrete dust to clean up. Will probably hold off on jackhammering the floor out until they get the current dust cleaned up.

Might check into getting some new glasses, as the current ones are pretty pitted (spatter from angle grinding) and scratched up ... plus I ran over my sunglasses with the Simplicity.

... Was any explanation given, RS? ...
Nope ... just got a text message saying it should be working and if not click the link in the text message.

The original call I made to report it was kinda frustrating ... I got a guy who said his name was "Jerome" ... but sounded like he was in Mumbai ...

After the usual "Check this, check that ..." I asked him if he could see any issues on the line between the house and the central office.

He said that he could see the line via his testing ... but couldn't tell me what the results were as he might lose his job.

WTH ?

This was after I went off on him for asking for my super-sekret pass code to continue with the call.

I got so many passwords (including multiple ones for ATT) that I can't keep them all straight ... and I ain't digging out the folder to find the one you want.

I'm reporting a frickin' service outage ... you really need to verify my identity to take the report and fix the problem ?

Last time this happened (about three months ago) the service rep I got on the phone - who sounded to be stateside - tested the line and told me there was a problem between the house and CO and that technicians had been recently working in the area and may have buggered the cables.

SMH ...
