55 this morning and made it to 75 today. Currently a rain cooled 64. About .7 inches in the last 30 hours.

Managed to ween calves and separate cows yesterday between rains. So there is a serenading going on here currently. I'm sure the neighbors are happy. :). Also birds are migrated.

Plans for today got drastically changed. After a preschool meeting about the boy I ended up with him at the doctor. He's got strep again.

Kyle. Here's the label for Basagran. http://www.cdms.net/LDat/ld89N004.pdf

It's labeled safe for corn, peas, and beans. The other crops aren't grown in a garden setting. So a rotation within the garden may be required. It good on yellow nutsedge under 8" tall.

You are correct. Sedgehammer is not labeled for use outside of turf.

Called for rain here, none so far.

We got a little rain this afternoon, got dark and gusty, but little rain. I use diatomaceous earth in my flowers, gardens and around where the outdoor cats eat and sleep. No beetles, fleas, ticks or other bugs. It doesn't really deter them, just kills them stone dead and is safe for all.

Good morning all. Blue sky in every direction this morning, though not much above freezing - and they say it's going to get colder.

The welding addiction Kyle warned me about took hold after tea last night. A friend had given me a full pack of Lincoln 6013 to practice with, so I skipped coffee to get out as soon as possible and burn up a few rods. They are very nice, if I'm not careful, I can see me getting hooked on top branded rods to feed this habit.

It's likely not the maker of those rods that's made them run so nice, Eric, but the fact that they arrived in a sealed package and had not absorbed a lot of moisture. If you can find a large zip loc bag to store them in, or bake them for several hours at 300F right before using, they'll keep running nice. And when they're gone try the same treatment on bargain basement rods to help you make your best showing...

57 going to 73, rain has stopped and a nice moon is shining through the fog.

Randy, I checked the Shenandoah NP website, and the fire closure area is huge. Although the fire map shows the fire mostly on the western side of the Blue Ridge, a section of the Skyline Drive is closed, the Appalachian Trail is closed for 17 miles and the trail where I went fishing is closed. I hope the rain helped. They are using 4 helicopters and 2 tanker aircraft.

I don't know anything about welding, but enjoy reading what you guys are up to...glad you're hooked, Eric.

Got to replace a bathroom faucet in my stepdaughter's bath room. I hope I can find my faucet wrench so I don't have to buy another one.
Got a few outside chores too...assembling a porch glider, re stack the wood pile...bit of chipping (if the branches aren't too wet from yesterday's rain).

I got to share this with you because my wife said she bet i wouldn't tell anyone. I will try to shorten this up and still make it sound funny so here goes. My wife loves krispy kreme donuts and i do as well, we live over 80 miles from the a actual kk store so on my route i go by one every week. So about a year ago i started stopping by and getting a dozen donuts then when i would call home when i got back to the bulk plant tell her i was on my way home, i would tell her i had some trading material with me. at first she had no clue what i was talking about untill i got home and explained, she oh ok sounds like good deal. So this week i stoped at kk got me a dozen donuts for trading material and took out of company truck put them in back set of my pickup. I drove home and 2 days later i remembered i had a dozen donuts in the back seat of my pickup. Iguess the moral to this story is you know your getting old when you forget you bought something and why yo bought it.

Ed, I said Randy, but meant to address the Shenandoah note to you. Thanks for keeping us informed. I was gonna tell a tale of camping at Sandy Point near Edenton to Randy, got interrupted by Coco, and came back and forgot what I was doing.

Making coffee now. 37 and sunny, going into the high 50s. Getting packed this morning, going on a vacation for a couple of weeks. Our neighbor is watching the house, taking care of the animals. I really need to find a way of rewarding them, as they wont take money.
Have a good one!

This is your fault you got me started.

My Grandpa walked on crutches for over 70 years and never ate much, said he couldn't because he walked on his hands. One day I took him to Richmond to get his hearing aids worked on. On the way back he had me stop at the Krispy Kreme Donut place. He handed me $2 and said get 2 dozen. I went in and got the donuts and when I got to the truck he asked "Was that enough money?" and I said Yea Grandpa. I ate a couple donuts and he finished the 2 dozen before we got home. He got out of the truck and headed for his bedroom for some turpentine, stuck his tongue on the bottle and tipped it up, said it gets rid of that over full feeling. A couple years later after his funeral a bunch of us grand kids were sitting around talking about Grandpa and I told this story. Several others said they had told Grandpa that they had enough money too, and each of us said that was the only time they ever saw Grandpa over eat but none were surprised at Grandpa and his turpentine. Ed

Thanks for the heads up. I'm planning a motorcycle ride through there this week, all my chores will have to be put on hold. Would like to go as far as the Vietnam Wall in DC but the traffic isn't very appealing.
