good morning all. Glad to see Roy is sleeping in. He's like our alarm clock here.
why I woke up at 4am I have no idea but once up, I just keep going. Am glad I'm retired and have a chance to take a nap in the afternoon.
raining pretty steadily and likely will all day, but fairly warm.
Going to be an inside project day. Yesterday worked outside most of the day with my helper and got a lot done. We had the burn pile going so that was a good time to take the FEL and scoop up all the old bad firewood rotting away and get rid of it so I can fill up the racks with good wood. The stuff left for me was way, way over the hill. Bug city. I have about half the rack filled up with fall down wood I have cut, but it needs some time under the tarp to dry out. I'll have this better organized for next winter.
Firewood delivered here is about 150 bucks, or 70 less than where I previously lived in PA. Trying to avoid buying, but I might need a cord this winter. I got my first propane bill of over 300 bucks and after the shock(electric bill was similar....) the thermostats went down a degree and I started looking for firewood in earnest. A 700 dollar monthly utility bill is nuts. Of course during that time all the windows were taken out of the house, the doors left open all day, etc, etc. Hardly an energy efficient month. But now with new windows in, I'm hoping this month might be better. As warm as it has been, maybe. New glass storm doors are also being installed and they have dramatically stopped the air leaks.
The propane guy has a nice sense of humor. I have a 500 gallon tank and "only" used 180 some gallons at 2.06 per gallon. The first thing he asked me is why I didn't use it all up like I was supposed to...
say what????
