Going to do curbside pick up for groceries this morning. Loading up an exercise bike that we are giving to one of our kids. She has a hip replacement surgery scheduled so she will use it in her recovery.Today is the weekly Methotrexate medication day for wife. Hope the side effects are minimal this week.

Good Morning all. 72º and going to 110º
That's no joke. Not a drop of rain in months.
All the rains stayed north of us so far.

Good Morning!!!! 73F @ 4:30AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 102F. Winds light and variable.

Good luck with the tub, Drew. If the floor is rough, a layer of inexpensive foam underlayment from HD might help. You'll figure something out...

Ups and downs in town yesterday. DMV clerk didn't want to issue a refund, but a supervisor provided a request form that will get sent up the line for approval. Pretty sure I just ran into someone having a bad day there.

No crank bolts in stock at motorcycle dealer; the dearly departed owner is probably spinning in his grave. Old time mechanic there says old bolts are reusable, but everything I've ever read about them says one time use only. I left them with the message that if they can't keep parts in stock, it makes no sense for me to have to make two trips to them if I can have them delivered via mail order, saving time and money. I did place an order for them when I got home, and should have them next week. No tax and free shipping...

Struck out at automotive paint store, even after using spectrometer on tank paint, which didn't work for some reason this time. There's a specialty shop in Ohio I've used in the past, but oh my gosh are their prices dear.

Careless forklift driver tried his best to bust up the pallet under the land plane, and it was all I could do to suggest he readjust the forks to fit. Finally got it loaded, and it rode nicely all the way home. Too hot to do anything with it, so unloadingis #1 on the schedule for this morning. Thinking I'll just lift it out of the trailer with the forks and some straps or chains.

Happy Hump Day everyone!

Morning all, a little rain, even though it cooled us off, the humidity never left, so not the nicest day.
Son seemed happy with first day back at school.

Maybe work on the backup Simplicity today, get the tires filled and start it up and see if the oil add worked for the tranny, or if it needs to come off for a rebuild.

Drew - if you need help, let me know, should be available late afternoons, or early on Sunday.

Good Morning
It’s 66 with a high of 82 forecast. A nice sunny day after the cold front blew through yesterday evening, leaving us only 1/8” of rain. Areas around us got heavy showers, but we seem to have rain diverters here.

Yesterday, I accomplished nothing other than flying up and down the northeast coast, and having a good meal at Mission BBQ. I had a nice chat with the person that operates their smokers, not sure if I’d call him a pitmaster, as he really has to follow the script, but he was knowledgeable about their equipment and processes.

Stopped at a friends to pick up some “Free” penetrant from Certified Labs. He swears it’s the best penetrant that they have ever tried, including Kroil, PB Blaster, Etc. I’ll report back after I’ve tested it. Once I got home, i pretty much crashed for the night.

Drew, putting some foam insulation under the tub sounds like sound advice to me, it will provide padding, protection and a thermal break as well.

About to go out to breakfast with the professor, wife is going to join us, as she has someone doing the barn work while she recuperates.

I got that land plane last year. Thought I was going to smooth the road with it but it dug too deep for me. seems it would be good if you need to redo a road. I'll keep dragging the box blade over it to cut the washboard off - when it ever rains again.
Found the land plane exceptional at weed abatement assuming no rocks. There is a learning curve here.

Ken, are you good at Chinese pictograms?
you bet I'd like your help. (y)

foam sounds like a great idea. No sense heating the concrete below. even a piece of carpet would help.
Ken, I'm committed at church Sunday morning so you name the afternoon that works well for you. I need to gather supplies today, like a drain hose,
plumbing y. and something to put underneath.

admit I'm torn here, which to work on first...gravely goes back tomorrow morning early so really have to get that done first.

1/2 inch is R3, one inch is R5. Wonder what a piece of carpet would be?
plus 200 gallons times 7 pounds crushing down on this.
I don't think this insulation material was made to have that weight on top of it?...

57°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 86° today. No more rain in our forecast until next Friday.

Last full work day this week. Taking the afternoon off tomorrow, and we always get sent home early here on the Friday before a holiday.

Good morning, gents.

I had a similar conversation with my local Guitar Center a few years ago. "I could have done that from home" I believe was the quote. I've only been back in there once since, and that was to pick up a speaker cabinet I'd ordered online from a different store. They charged me shipping from store to store, so there's no reason to ever do that again either.

Interesting development in the STL area this morning. Two Academy Sports stores 40 miles apart on opposite sides of the metro area had simultaneous smash-n-grab attempts in the wee small hours of the morning. They drove vehicles into the front of the stores to gain access. Just a few days ago, someone did the same thing to rob a small gun store in Edwardsville, IL. Smash-n-grab certainly isn't a new thing, but coordinated attacks on multiple locations certainly is. One reported shots fired inside the store. Disturbing.

Good Morning,

So on Monday I stop in at this community lunch in town. I have to set up the situation a bit.

A friend along with a number of volunteers, hosts this luncheon for the homelss community. It is a mid day ministry. I stop in when I can.
It is in the parking lot of a church near the downtown core
They have a 20 ft sea container to hold chairs, tables, covers, supplies.
Set up, take down, every Mon, Tues, Fri - 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Several businesses and volunteers, donate coffee, baking, meals (soups, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta salads, caseroles etc) ... quite a variety, changes ever time.

Anyway, I stopped in on Monday, and joined them all, I know many of the volunteers. I sat down on a stackable chair, had a old TV table beside me to hold the coffee, juice meal etc., and was served my lunch. On this occasion, a few minutes later at about 1 pm, some of the volunteers are starting to clean things up and put things away. While most people are still chatting, it is a bee hive of activity at that point, and I am just trying to stay out of the way, finish my meal, coffee.

I struggle to get up at the best of times and (unlike most people who just stand up) I have to use brute arm strength for leverage on my cane, a chair or whatever, and some precarious balance until I get my feet under me and balance. So I ain't moving quickly, but they are still there serving for the next half hour. I car ry on with things.

A volunteer gentleman (term used loosely) whom I do not know, got in my face about needing the table, cleaning up etc. He came to me 3x in about 2 minutes and was pretty frustrated with me for holding up his agenda. There was no need to rush, lots of time left. I managed to get up after the 3rd time, and perhaps he saw my cane, the struggle etc, or was told by someone else - well, 10 min later he came back to APOLOGIZE, I assured him that things were fine, all good. I'm standing there holding my cane and the coffee (no lid) - I really can't move, my brain freezes in place, I need to finish the coffee before I can walk around. I need personal space, to adjust and balance etc, but he less than 2 feet away chatting with me. I'm almost falling over. I listen and deal with it.

With his apology he begins to expain that he is scarred from head to toe. I figured that it was a spiritual reference and that he was a sinner, needed Christ etc. I only knew that he was another Christian volunteer. I was not prepared for the story that followed - this guy is a LEGEND :)

I had heard the story before, but now I was meeting the man.

About 15 years ago, when he was in his 60s, he survived a very nearly fatal GRIZZLY bear attack. He arm wrestled the Grizzly, and killed it with his 5 inch pocket knife. TRUE. Amazing. Stabbed it numerous times with a pocket knife, did not wound it, killed it, on the spot. He says that the 3 cubs ate the momma within 2 days, as they were starving. Incredible story. He has the Grizzly taxidermied and mounted on the wall in his home. Visible reminder God is Good. He said that he asked that it be completed with several of the knofe wounds visible in the mount.

This guy "Grizzly Bob" is a LEGEND in this area. The body length scars are physical and spriitual. so what if he has a few quirks. All good.

back from PT and food shopping.
Now into grubby clothes.
Called Tinsmans lumberyard, they have polystyrene (?) insulated boards, 2 feet by 8 feet, under 20 bucks a piece. So 60 bucks.
4x8 sheet at Lowes 20 dollars less but I'd have to take the trailer. I can sneak two foot wide boards into suv, they slide up between the front seats
on top of a towel.
So will drive up there this afternoon to pick up. Got the hose and plumbing parts.

Scaredy, take it slow and don't let others rattle you.

With my shoulder injury I am waiting with the Minisplit installation until it recovers some more. I have collected most of the tools to install it including vacuum pump and micron gauges. Ordered a Bosch SDS hammer drill yesterday factory reconditioned for an attractive price. Also decided to wait with some tree removals close to the house until shoulder gets better. In the meantime I will concentrate on grass mowing around the tree plantings and things I can do with the tractor and excavator. Also need to check on scheduled service for the Sprinter, pickup and other equipment. Doing a better job keeping lawn mower blades sharpened and balanced. Saves IMG_0822.jpeg diesel fuel with good blades.

that blade is a thing of beauty. I love sharpening blades. Mine sure don't look that nice...

We run into this all the time with my wife having rheumatoid arthritis and not moving well and especially getting up from low chairs and on top of that there are people that assume she is mentally handicapped as well. She is sharp as anything and gets a chuckle out it. Taking it with humor is the best way to handle it
