53°F and rain this morning, going up to 59° then dropping back into the 40s this afternoon. Expecting some more heavy rain today. Flood warnings all over the area.

Drove through some water getting out to the highway this morning, flowing across from one field to another. Old US-50 was closed in one area, and probably should have been in another after seeing a car in the ditch from hitting the water on the road in front of the Trenton FD. Looks like we're into Spring Flood Season here now.

Wife had trouble yesterday with the tractor shutting down on her. Said the parking brake light was staying on, and the engine would cut out when she tried to drive forward. Weird. Need to check that out. She ended up using the F-150 to move the landscaping bricks from the basement side of the house to the barn.

Try to stay dry today, fellas.

PJS, what music do you have to stimulate potato growth?

Normally, I would recommend something busy and complicated, like Bach or Mozart, to stimulate activity. However, in this case, maybe some manner of tuba music ... you know ... tubas ... tubers ... am I reaching here? :rotfl:

Good morning guys. Went in this morning and held mom's hand while she passed from this world and went to heaven. Very peaceful. Ed

Your family is in my prayers. May she rest in peace.

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 8:15AM. Sunny. High 72F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Still no sign of rain in the ten day forecast. Sierra snowpack is at 50% of normal in the north, and we're well below normal in rainfall and reservoir storage as well. Shaping up to be another drought summer.

Sorry to hear about your mother, Ed. Cherish her memories. You're a good man. Know she was proud of you.

The timing problem has to do with the uneven speed of the crank during kick starting, Randy. The manufacturer's information says the electronics measures a slow speed at the start of the kick, makes the calculation of when to fire based on that, but by the time it sets the spark off the crank has accelerated. That's what they say. I smell BS, because if that were the case, the spark would fire with the piston closer to TDC, not too advanced like it's doing. The manufacturer doesn't give any further explanation, so all I can do is try to reproduce the conditions under which the thing was developed by installing a factory spec flywheel.

Took a day off kicking yesterday to install some inline fuel filters and finish off some wiring. Should get the wiring done today, then tackle shimming the front wheel bearings. But first I need to whip up a batch of Instant Pot spaghetti, and figure out a dish to take to an April Fool's potluck on Saturday. Farmer, got any favorite chicken casserole recipes? Oh, and if you don't mind my asking, do you eat your own chickens, or get 'em at the grocery store like the rest of us?

Ed- I firmly believe that Mom knew that you were there. I too am glad that you were there. Hang in there.

Buppies-

I thought that I posted about going to NYC for the weekend and meeting our friends and their families for a “naming the (grand)kid” ceremony.

We had a great time meeting up with old friends. These guys are my childhood buds. We were basically all raised together through the shared responsibilities of our parents. Now they are finally considering retiring. They should take advantage of retirement while they are able. Their kids are all grown up and doing well.

NYC is a “trip” for someone who has lived in the woods for +40 years. I never really understood the concept of “vertical living” until I saw our brand new Forester disappear in an elevator.. Uber travel is a way of life. for those with smart phones . Those drivers make 6 figure $ incomes. They drive some fancy wheels.

Driving a brand new and completely alien vehicle down to and into NYC (Brooklyn) traffic was . All types and kinds of vehicles from barely running, broken down vehicles that looked like they have been already stripped to fancy HP sports cars all weaving around trying to share the same space on the highway setting off all kinds of alarms, beeps, and flashing lights in the Forester and sideview mirrors. It was crazy. The drive out of NYC was as bad as the drive in, but we made it. We saw no snow until we returned home. We still have 8” - 10” snow base more in the woods.

I was following this thread while I was away….. I had to take notes. A lot happens here.

I don't usually check in here over the weekends. Just too busy, really. When I do get back on Monday mornings, there is always considerable catching up to do, especially in this thread. We're a bunch of Chatty Cathies here.
