Good morning, low was 36°F and the high will be 43. Wind N11 gusting to 19 mph. 60% chance of rain/snow mix.

We found a small engines guy that will look at the power washer before I return it to the people that sold it to me. He is running two weeks behind, but he can have it today and when he gets to it, he gets to it. I really don't think I should be jumping through all these hoops, especially on a brand new piece of equipment.

Great pics of the Skyline Drive.
Nice Red Winged Blackbird.

Have a safe day all

Good Morning!!!! 51F @ 4:45AM. Overcast. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 59F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph.
Picked up another third of an inch of rain yesterday, mainly in the wee hours, but one very dark cell that came through about 2 in the afternoon dropped enough to get everything wet again. The 10-day is calling for more rain later on in the week, and more next week, with more typical, warmer, fall temperatures.

Got the branch cleared off the driveway, then walked around looking for the stuff the wind stole. Found the hummer feeder, in three pieces, then found another one that had been hiding in the grass for goodness knows how long. Nearby were two door mats, but two more are still hiding. Got the BBQ grill upright after first removing all the grates and burners. None the worse for wear, but next time high winds are predicted, I'll move it into a more protected spot.

That dark cell kept me inside for the afternoon, and I managed to install an older version of MacOS into VMWare. Been running updates on it ever since, 6 Gb worth so far. Also got three legacy apps installed and running on it. Today I'll clone the main laptop onto an external hard drive, upgrade that to the newest OS version, and see how well VMWare runs on it. And see if there are any other apps that need an upgrade.

I also want to move some security cameras around, and start running more wire up in the attic. Not my favorite place to be, but I've been putting it off all summer, waiting for cooler weather, so now's the time.

Morning all, raining, seems more than the 2" they called for and still going
Got the leaves moved yesterday, probably a lot more took their place today.

Mostly, that's a lot of fish- how long before you know if numbers up/down?
Carp boiled and ground up for fish balls- Asian/eastern european treat.

stay safe and be well,

Thomas, your wife can send them down here, we need more hunters.
4 legged tick machine ate every one of my pretty yellow mum flowers off the planter closest to the road.
After this rain is finally done, I have to go back out and spray those plants down again.
It wears off and if it smells good and tastes good, it's just a fine day for a foraging animal.

neighbor across the street who has lived their 50+ years looks out her bedroom window at night and doesn't like looking at all the lights
on my house. She complained nicely about it and I'm thinking, why not just shut your curtains at night? I do...
I explained to her the old adage about crooks and Hollywood; crooks hate lights and cameras. So I had 3 60 watt LED lightbulbs running all night, I think
each consumes 15 watts. So nice cheap protection.
well.........
So the one light that used to shine on my US flag is now dark at night.
We all know it should be lit at night or taken down.
It's quite a stretch to get to and I was very happy to leave the flag up with the light on at night.
I think I need to get a more focused spot bulb or something but have it focused away from across the street.
I've known this lady a very long time and she is getting pretty cranky in her advancing years, not helped by a bad hip that has her
in pain. I wonder if there is a flag pole with a light built in... Wall mount with smaller flag

Municipal building and police station one block away. So for now I turned off the front lights and only run the side light by the entrance door at night.
I'm open to all suggestions.

got labs done, now some more housecleaning.

   / Good morning!!!! #140,327
I have my lights on a timer, though don't think my neighbors can see them.

I'm open to all suggestions.
I don't want my outside lights on all night, advertising the location of my place to everyone. But I do want to discourage uninvited guests with lots of lumens, which also help the security cams record what's going on. So I've rigged motion sensors to trigger certain lights if/when someone/something comes around after dark. Yes, a deer or a fox might trip them, too, but that's still better than leaving them burning all those hard earned kilowatts all night.

There's quite a variety of motion sensor equipped screw in light sockets on Amazon if you don't want to replace the whole light fixture...

Good Morning.
It’s 55 and might make 60 today. Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain.

Yesterday the rain held off until about 7 or so, then we got 2.12 inches according to the Davis, 3.33 according to the Tempest. I’ll check the good old funnel gauge, but my money is on the Davis.
Ended up hooking up the Progressive to to the tractor and mowing as it looked like the least chance of rain all week. Got the Lazer out and did the trimming as well. Saw some hanging and dead branches while mowing, went back out with Makita pole saw and chainsaw and cleaned them up. Both are excellent tools that I appreciate more every time I use them.

Off to meet a friend for breakfast now, then might get to the stuff I thought I might do yesterday.

Ron, glad you got everything done you had planned.

I usually exceed my plans, which is nothing.

I also use motion sensors. I do leave light on full time in mud room and at bottom of basement stairs. I like it dark outside.

I’ve noticed I get crankier the older I get. Just don’t like to put up with some stuff any more.

I would like this weather for one day.

Good morning! Warm and muggy. 72˚F heading to the mid 80s, cloudy. 10 years and a day for the GM thread, I'll have to look back to see when I jumped in. The Meyer lemon tree is doing good this year with 27 lemons almost ready to pic. For some reason I can't edit this post to add a phone pic so I'll have to make another post from my phone.

RNG, Apple has the new MacOS Monterey (also known as MacOS 12) out are you going to update?

Drew, does your neighbor have blue eyes? My wife's eyes are very sensitive to light also. The neighborhood has a restriction on lights at night. The street lights do not go out but everyones patio lights are out over night.

   / Good morning!!!! #140,333
Drew I got this for the "bright" nighttime lights on the appliances and clocks. My wife loves them. I bet your neighbor would appreciate this as a peace offering that you understand.

   / Good morning!!!! #140,334
Drew, All my outside lights are motion sensed. Except for pond and flag lights. These lights are pointed towards ground. Flag spot light points away from everyone’s view.
Only problem with motion lights. Is keeping everyone from turning switches off that control lights. Put masking tape over switch. People still try to turn them off.
East facing flood lights and camera caught a couple hunters walking along my lawn the other day. Camera came on then flood lights. They made a 90° turn into field. But got their picture taken. They have not taken path again. I have seen them walking other side of field. They are welcome to walk along edge of my lawn if they ask.

if it wasn't for the flag for sure motion sensing makes the most sense and least "light pollution" but I always want one light on no matter what.
are you veterans offended if the flag stays out without a night light? I was trying to explain that to my neighbor and I might have been speaking Martian.

"Flag protection Act - failure to properly light a flag at night can result in a fine of up to $100,000 or imprisonment of up to one year.

However, chances are you will never be fined or imprisoned, as much as you would upset Veterans, or those who pass by your flag and realize it has “Fallen Into Darkness.”"

39°F and clear skies this morning with some spots of light fog, going up to 61° today.

I have been noticing more and more lately that one of the "benefits" of aging is my increasing inability to sing in the higher registers as I have been accustomed to for most of my life. I was always the guy in various bands who got stuck with the squealy high stuff, because I could sing it. Not so much anymore. I have been trying for a couple of days to record a high harmony that I used to have no trouble hitting these notes. I've been trying to go a little easier on my voice, moving more into falsetto, and it's just not working. So, as a last ditch effort, mostly out of frustration, I backed off the mic and tried just belting it out full force ... approaching a primal scream kind of thing. It worked, and I nailed it on the first take. Go figure.

Mostly_, deaf and blind dogs aren't really all that hard to work with as you might think. Dogs are smarter than many of us give them credit for. My Wife picked up that dog on Friday morning, and by the time I got home from work it already knew it's way around the house and the back yard. It knew where all the steps were when going across the deck in and out, and would start high-stepping just a few feet away knowing that it was coming. The only real difference is that you have to use physical contact with them instead of voice or motion queues.

I had one of those "four-legged tick machines" run across the highway in front of me on the way to work this morning. Definitely raises the pucker factor, not knowing if there are more right behind her in the dark.

As a former active duty Marine and Viet Nam Veteran while I would like the Flag to be light up at night and in inclement weather,
if the choice is the Flag flying or not , then fly her proudly.

The non-beta version of Monterey was released only yesterday, Don, and I don't think I'm adventurous enough to take that plunge. As I review the feature list, most of it is focused in increasing your ability to share data and screens, so nothing jumps out at me as a must have. I also see that it's a 13 Gb download, and would take most of a day. With my current data caps, I don't really have that much to spare. Maybe some day if I ever get a new laptop with Apple's M1 chip in it, it would make sense. But for now, at least, I'll stick with Big Sur, which I'm already running on this laptop.

thank you Lou. That's why I've left it unlit until I can find a win win solution here

The flag on the back of my big boat would always get curled up in the wind, as it was in the picture awhile back.
Once docked or stopped, I would always walk to the back of the flybridge and untangle the flag. Up front was a little Maryland flag but it was on a good
swivel hook and it never had a problem.
I think that big flag on the back was one of the reasons my boat, I and a lot of my family were not stopped as we went up the Potomac River on a family cruise.
South of DC there were spotters up on the ridge, black suburbans, whole thing.
And we puttered on by, clearly not fitting the description of persons of interest. I read later that some days 90 percent of the boats were stopped and boarded.

lunch is ready, house is clean, sitting here resting watching the pine needles fly by in the wind. 2.06 inches on gauge.
Rain has stopped for awhile, later tonight after dinner storm will keep heading North and should get windy and another shower.
