Didnt know coal came in bags. My grandfather burned coal, he would have it delivered.

They would deliver the coal to the house with troughs shoveling the coal down to the cellar's coal bin.

55 here in Michigan. I finally felt up to working on a few things, ran the genny to exercise it, cleaned up a few things in the yard, checked the fluids in the vehicles. Took the dogs for a walk, did lunch with the wife, all in all had a nice day. About freaking time!!

To all you guys fighting something, I wish you luck.

Still 57F @ 21:00 with some rain. Temperature should peak around midnight and then starts falling after that ... by 09:00 tomorrow it will be down to 46F, by 23:00 it will be 23F.

The weather forecast I saw this evening said the bulk of the snow will be to the south and east of Cleveland ... IOW: here ...

They're calling for anywhere from 3" to 6" of snow tomorrow ... with a 1/10" of ice accumulation possible before the snow starts.

I got 8 rails (100" long) and 16 uprights (47 1/2" tall) for the racks cut to length, and 1 (of 2) dado joints cut into 8 of the uprights before I headed into the doctor's this afternoon.

Should hopefully get all the rest of the cutting done early tomorrow ... before it starts getting really chilly out in the garage.

Especially if I head back out and do a little more before I knock off for the day.

We had a coal stove and a wood stove, actually the coal stove would burn wood or oil as well, coal was just better heat. We had a big coal pile behind the house next to the wood pile, they delivered both by dump truck.

Temps in the 40's for most of the day cloudy rain for tomorrow and Saturday. That will turn the snow into a muddy mess.

Good evening all. 50F for the start, partly sunny (clouds east and west), light south wind. Wind cranked up in the morning and shifted to north, sky clouded over, and hit high of 57 in the morning, and has dropped all afternoon and evening, and wind advisory scheduled to expire at midnight. Bike ride early, wind increasing through ride and shifted to north about 10:30. The morning's air mass was so humid the roads were wet from condensation. After lunch and nap time fire up wood stove.

There used to be a railroad thru my hometown, that closed around 1932. Theres an old map showing the railroad.
On facebook, a younger guy is insisting, based on this map from1898, that there was a tunnel under main st. So i asked my dad, who said it was a wooden bridge, not a tunnel. He had actually been across the bridge when he was young. My mom rode the trains last run when she was around 8 yo.

This guy is insisting it was a tunnel. I told him my dad eats breakfast at mcdonalds most mornings, go ask him, he's been across that bridge......

It was fun discussing, but its amazing how people lose track of history, or make invalid assumptions. And this was less than 100 yrs ago.
And the person running the county memories fb page, didnt know about the train tunnel near our farm. Took this picture in it in 1986.

The mast was from a small 5000# capacity forklift, I just made some mounts to put it on the 3pt, using a hydraulic toplink for tilting and one of the remotes for the lift cylinder.

Now that's usin' yer noodle, Lou. Nice work!

Good morning all. Another really dark morning here thanks to low cloud that doesn't want to move. Can't complain though, it did a great job of keeping the heat in overnight and again we are sitting at a degree above freezing.

That's looks a very useful forklift LouNY.

Many years ago a mining village close to where I used to live turned carrying bags of coal into an annual sporting event -

... They last told me that hopefully before this weekend, if not it'll be early next week. So, I have gone cover to cover through the manual about 50 times now and soaking in as much as I can on this forum. :) .....and ordering stuff for my tractor. LOL

Einthewoods, it sounds like delivery is imminent, so it's time we start warning you about the serious side effects of a new tractor. The first issue is the smile - or as others will be calling it, the "stupid grin" that is almost impossible to wipe off. You need to put the manual down now and practice showing a serious face. If not, you won't be able to stop yourself smiling at all sorts of inappropriate times for weeks to come :)
